in the nespaper it said amazon released, or a re just selling, a new electronic device used to read books now.

you buy this device which is as big as like a 500 page boook i think. you can download loads of book ito it. and the screen makeseach page look like the page of a book...

when i saw it the picture i thought it was stupid...halfthe reason i read books may be because it is a book it will be weird reading off of that thing.

i'll try find a pic and info later.

that would be some useless stuff^^. I heard something similar but it was like a scroll, whereyou can upload newspapers, books, music and watch/read it on a foil.

it's a screen..-_- where you can upload loads of books in stead of carrying around a library worth of books you have one light little tablet which enables you to read all your heart desires.. it's a good and useful tool...

Ditto. Now theyare coming up with PADDs (look it up.)

Whoever said the world isn't going to be similar to star trek (or the mirror universe knowing our culture) in the future is getting a swift kick in the panzie!.

I find the idea semi-stupid. Why bother downloading them when you have each seperate book already?

It's a good idea in a way instead of carrying toones of books but only 500 pages max isn't worth it realy with all these huge books these days.

I think I'd get that if I want to read a bunch of books.
But isn't it bad for your eyes? It's like staring at a computer a bit.

EDITEDIT: But, I like buying books because of their covers. 0_o So, maybe not.

Hmmm...I'd like to have one, it would be great to take on holiday or whatever when you don't have space for lots and lots of real books, or for reference books if you were doing research. But I wouldn't want things like that to ever take over from actual paper books. Reading books off a screen is fine if you have to (wahey, novellength fanfics :)) but there's something about curling up with a book that's about the actual physical object as much as the story.
Like, I have a really old (second edition, I think) copy of Lord of the Rings, and reading that feels completely different and much nicer to me than reading even a brand-new paperback copy of the same book...I wouldn't enjoy it at all on a electronc screen, I don't think. Books mean something just by being books....

It'd save thousands of trees if everyone had one...

Does it just hold books? If not, I would use it to hold fanfiction stories and stuff (over 500 pages-- that's great for fanfictio wise). And, maybe instead of having the whole book on it, I can get a excerpt of it (maybe 50 pages or something) and read the rest later (good to use to get a head start on a book). It would be lot easier than taking out my laptop, going online, and reading fiction/fanfiction/downloaded books on my laptop--- it gets annoying after a while.... This sounds useful.... Please put up a picture and information about it soon! :)

I though it was cool but my BF says it kill your eyes. (he has one) It might save thousands of trees but kills your eyes. I don't know if I am willing to make the trade!

What would be a good idea is if you could rent books for school instead of paying full price and buying them, and then put them there so you don't have to carry them all around...Now THATS an idea :p
And it looks just like ink on paper...how does it kill your eyes?

That sounds about as helpful as a DVD rewinder.

Even if you were going on a trip or something, or you simply want to have a collection of various favorite writings on hand, a device such as that does not really simplify anything. Research journals, academic journals, research books... are all accessible online via databases. E-books are getting popular enough, and you can download those and view them from any computer should you not want to lug books around with you on a trip. Purchasing a laptop and a wireless modem would be more versatile and convenient than something like that.

Poor books. I like to get away from screens every now and again and physically read a book. I hope that this isn't another incentive for printing presses to be kaboshed.
