If there is one serie that I look up to, one author that I look up to, that'd be A Song of Ice and Fire and George R. R. Martin.

I'm not part of the ASOIAF fandom though. But I think this forum is lacking an ASOIAF FC, so here I am.
If you want to join and share your thoughts, discuss with other fans, come and join here XD Beware, spoilers are bound to be discussed here!

Summary: the story retrace the numerous intrigues and wars the nobles go through to get their hands on the Iron Throne, just to be the King. It is a tale of many betrayals, justice and injustices, love and hate, life and death that make the story of Westeros. But, as everybody is fighting, the Black Guards must face a menace greater than a trivial war for a throne. Winter is coming, say the Starks; indeed, it is.

My favorite characters are Jon, Dany, Arya, Tyrion, Jaime...and I could probably keep going. They're all good.

That's all I'll say for now. I gotta watch a hockey game.

OMG! FINALLY someone made this FC! XD If I was more on top of things I would have made it myself! XD ASOIAF is my favorite series. I use to be more into the fandom a few years ago when I first read the books, but I have kind of fallen out of it now. ^_^; I'm sure I'll join in again after A Dance with Dragons is out. XD Arya, Sansa and Sandor are my favorites, but really I love everyone...even the ones I love to hate. The characters are just awesome! XD

Yeah it was about time someone made this FC, duh? I didn't notice it was missing (because it's rare when I hang out in this section), but seeing FCs for the Twilight and HP, I was like... why is there no FC for the best fantasy serie around? XD

Yeah, that was my biggest problem with Feast. Not enough of the characters I like (it also felt a bit too much like filler to me). Jaimie really surprised me in ASoS because I thought he'd be a total douche. Should we use spoiler tags here? I'll use them, just in case:

I loved the scene at the end of A Feast for Crows when he abandons Cersei. It's badass, and I know what you mean when you say it's fun to hate Cersei.

Jaime definitely wins the prize for "Most improved character". And he's also almost certainly going to have a tragic ending of some sort; I can't see Dany accepting him into her Kingsguard (or rather Queensgard). Perhaps Jaime will do something memorable first to balance his previous infamous bad deeds and become remembered as one of the best and the worst of the Kingsguard, like Criston Cole before him.

That would be the most karmically correct ending for Littlefinger, but I wonder if GRRM will forgo the predictable and do something else with them. Tyrion is tied to both of them as well, so he could be involved in their final fates.

Tyrion is my favorite character and also the one I worry the most about, at least in terms of his spiritual health. He seems to be heading down a dark path opposite to Jaime. Genna telling Jaime that Tyrion was Tywin's true son was one of the most ominous moments in AFfC.

I agree that a tragic ending awaits Jaime. I still love him though and I certainly hope that he will get an ending worth of him. But I'm pretty sure he will; something that will make forget people that he was the Kingslayer for another, more glorious title, as he dreamt all his life.

You're right, Tyrion is tied to those two; I wonder how Martin will play it. Maybe Tyrion will kill the both of them (that's another possibility). Tyrion is sure walking on a dark path, and him being Tywin's son is certainly not a good omen, considering how Tywin ended (one of the most gleeful death though XD it was hard to not laugh XD).
It is still possible for him to redeem himself and to be saved, but how I have no clue. Maybe Dany (for some reason, I picture Tyrion betraying Dany for Sansa, and that'd be her treason for love), or maybe Sansa. I think, since the women brought him down, he'll rise again through women (but maybe that's just me XD). I certainly hope that we'll get a proper ending for him, an honorable death or at least, something that indicates that his soul is not totally lost (I can picture that, especially since Martin loves him so much). I don't think he'll die before the last book though. *crosses fingers*

Sansa's the one I've changed my opinion of the most (I used to really hate her), though she's still not one of my favorites. Petyr was awesome when he pushed Sansa's aunt off a cliff.

Ha ha, I think you could say that about almost everybody in this series. Pretty much all of them have already gone through some tragedy and their futures look dark in general.

What about your predictions? Well, it'll be years before we see what happens but... XD

I think Jon's mum is Lyanna and his father would be Raeghar. Yes, I do believe in that theory XD However, he will stay forever Ned's son ;) but his Targaryen's lineage is, IMHO, going to play some role in the future [maybe forces Dany to revise her opinion about the Starks? She's meant to meet him anyway...].

The Prince that was promised is obviously Dany XD I like how Martin confuses everyone by saying 'Prince' to finally give the 'job' to a princess haha XD

Ah, as a spoiler for ADwD, Martin wrote that:
he just finished to write a marriage.

Who else thinks it's Dany? Now the choices are many, given how many men went after her in AFfC :rotflmao so give your answers!
I personally hope it won't be the Ironborn, whose name escapes me 'cause he didn't do a great impression on me >___> I think I'd prefer the young Martell XD What about you? XD

Sorry, I won't give you chapter and verse about the details of what I've been doing and undoing. I've never liked to talk much about a work-in-progress. Too much can and does change. Seeing as how I made you wait so long between updates, however, I'll throw out one small teaser, and mention I'm adding some chapters from the point of view of one of the characters featured in the first lot of Ice & Fire miniatures from Dark Sword, a character who has never had a POV in any of the earlier books.
This summer I am scheduled to travel to Spain to speak at Semana Negra in Gijon, make some appearances in Madrid and Barcelona, and then head over to Portugal to visit with my publishers and readers there. I want to have A DANCE WITH DRAGONS done and delivered before I leave. If that happens, the book will likely be published in the fall of 2008 in the U.S, and somewhat earlier in the U.K. I am pleased with the way the writing is going at the moment, and I think these projections are realistic ones... but as you all know, I've been wrong before. So I am not swearing any blood oaths here.

New POV=??? I wonder, he picked my curiosity. I saw someone said it could be Clegane, but is he in the concerned areas? :hm
Also, if he can really finish the book for this year, it'd be great, but I don't have too much hope on it... >___>' well, we'll see, but all I can hope for us is a year with ADwD published XD Happy New Year ^^

Hi, I would love to join this FC. I started reading this series a long time ago and just love all the characters in there. My favorite character in Book 1 was Ned. Completely shocked that Martin killed him off (and that's what I like about this series...characters (good & evil) do get killed off). Tyrion was truly a fun character to read. He was just so unique and I liked the brief bond he shared w/ Jon at the Wall. I would have to re-read the series as it's been awhile and I couldn't remember all the details. Will write more once I get my thoughts together. Oh, have to mention my other favorite, Arya. I just love her undying spirit.

@juu: well you see, the characters evolve a LOT throughout the serie. You'll be very surprised by some and I must say, Tyrion pwns everything :flirt In the first book, I didn't like him that much, but in the second and third book, it's like woahh!!! This little guy rocks!!! :XD
My opinion on Jaimie changed a lot too (while I didn't have any opinion about him before). And he's probably one of those who evolves the most too.
Martin is really a great author, for the plot, characterizations and such... I really wish there would me more authors like him around *sighs*

Today I had a 6 hour shift at work and not one student showed up so I started reading book one again and got almost half way through :lmao (not bad being paid 25 bucks an hour to read).... About Brienne and Jaime, I don't really ship them, however, it was a great read to see them becoming close. I loved it because Brienne is everything Cersei is not, they're like polar opposite, both physically and mentally; and to see Jaime refusing Cersei's demand at the end was just so great mwahaha XD
I'm a bit scared for Arya though, her path looks a bit dark (and she's blind too now T___T). Hopefully, she'll be spared since Parris likes her (let's hope :rofl). XD

I kinda think she is going to become an uber powerful fighter or something.

@Juu: haha you'll learn -a bit too fast- that Martin doesn't have any date to give his script. It took him 5 years to write A Feast for Crows and roughly half of A Dance with Dragons. That's why I knew that ADwD would never be ready for the beginning of the year, as he hoped :D

Yes Brienne had a really positive influence on Jaime, unlike Cersei who is very self-centered :p
Arya.. yes, I think she's meant to become a fighter too; but the one holding the true power will be Bran, IMHO. And I think Jon could be one of the three heads that will ride the dragons, because he has Targaryen blood. I have no clue for the last head though (Dany, Jon and?). I'd love Tyrion, but I'm not sure about him at all :D Maybe it's only my Tyrion fangirling that is speaking there :D

I think Bran will be important too. Wha John has the dragon in him? I must be forgetting something lol. I remember reading a tad about his mother but my mind is letting me down atm. I have seen him and daenerys paired in fanarts lol so yeh xD I would like tyrion to be also. I missed all three of them in Crows. I guess its obvious cersi was targeting the wrong queen also lol. I kinda feel sorry for her. It would be hard being second always to men in such a life so it isnt hard to understand why she wants to rule.

Well, for Jon, it's all theory, but here it is:
Haha, no, you didn't miss anything for Jon. But is he really Ed's bastard? I think that if in his heart he'll always remain Ed's son, his lineage is a bit different. There are some... curious things that a lot of fans picked up:
-Ed was especially odd about Jon's mother. He never told her name, not even to Cat, and he kept protecting him near him. The way Robert asked him *again* the name of his mother is odd too, even though it was on the spur of the moment - after rereading that scene, I wondered if he wasn't trying to see if the mother's name changed because it was a lie.
-Ed's promise to Lyanna... what was it about?
-And finally, Lyanna and Rhaegar... it is said that Rhaegar took Lyanna forcefully, but, is that so? If you go into the details, it looks more like they really did love each other.
So the theory is that Jon would be their son and Lyanna would have asked Ed to protect him, because Robert was willing to kill anyone with Targaryen blood in their veins. So, Ed accepted because it was her last request and made him look like Jon was his own bastard.

And yeah, I missed my favourites characters in AFfC too, so I'm really awaiting ADwD now :XD

Hey guys. Finally finished re-reading this series. Even after a second read, it was still just as good as the first time. I just love this series and the more I read it, the more I like Tyrion. This little dude is just so great compared to all the other Lannister. He is the only one who could redeem the Lannister with his good heart. He may be conniving at times but compared to his kins, he does have a heart.

Don't know if I need to put this in spoiler tag or not but don't want to ruin it for anyone but the 3rd book, ASOS was just so wonderful!!!! It was extremely sad that Martin had to kill off Robb & Catelyn at the Red Wedding and I truly hope Catelyn gets to hang all the damn Freys & Bolton in the future. Sooooo happy when Joffrey choked and died! God, can't tell you all how much I hated that bastard!!!! And the joy of all joy was when Tyrion strangled his whore and slew his hateful father. I hated Tywin Lannister with a passion b/c I'm a House of Stark fan and since I'm rooting for them, I can't help but hate Tywin & Cersei. Jamie is on the verge of redeeming himself and I'm starting to root for him as well. I hope he doesn't get the ax later but I don't see how he can be spared.

Some comments on House Stark:
Sansa - used to hate her soooo much in book 1 but have gradually come to like her. I want to see her triumph over all her hardships and go home to Winterfell and live a happily ever after life with someone who truly loves her. My wish would be either Sandor (hopefully he's alive??) or Tyrion (he did care for her and treated her kindly). But before all that happily ever stuff, I want her to take down Littlefinger for what he did to her family (betraying her father and spreading rumors about sleeping w/ her mother) It would be so sweet if the student can best her teacher.

Arya - one of my favorite character. I don't really know what I want for Arya. She has sooo much hate in her and so much death on her hands I don't know how she will ever live a normal life again. I would love for her to kill off all the people on her nightly wish and then return home to live a peaceful life but I don't think that's what will happen. Arya already walked a dark path and I don't think she can find peace anymore. Soooooo sad for such a little girl and to top it off, she's now blind!!!! I don't know what will happen to her but I hope she eventually ends up with Gendry. I think he likes her and they make such a cute couple!!! :D

Bran - can't wait to find out what's he learned since his departure w/ the Crow but hopefully he can come back and re claim Winterfell and make it great again. Definitely want him to walk again.

Jon - he had risen high on the Wall but where will he go now?? Stay there and protect the wall or march south and join the war once he learned of his true identity? I firmly believe he's not a Stark but a Targaryen. If he has dragon blood, will he marry Danny (who will be his aunt)?? So many questions and yet no answers!!!! Can't wait to read ADWD to find out what's going on with Jon. Somehow I have a feeling he will rule the Seven Kingdom at the end with Danny. I'm not a big fan on shipping Jon & Danny so I'm hoping he'll remain at the Wall and let Danny rule the Seven Kingdom.

I like Bran and all but I don't see how I can be Bran Stark...maybe b/c I like the outdoors!!! :D Not going to take the test again b/c I don't think my answers will be any different. I'll just have to settle to be Bran Stark. He's nice and kind and will have the power of magic the next time we see him. Can't wait for him for join forces with Jon and see his siblings again. Awww...I really miss the Starks siblings interactions. They're all so sweet!! I love all the short moments btwn Bran & Robb. I liked how Robb took care of Bran after the fall and protected him. It was so sweet. I liked the Jon & Robb goodbye moment as well. It showed that they really loved each other as brothers even though Jon is a bastard. Definitely love the interactions btwn Jon & Arya. They're so similar in appearance and personality as well. And of course, the Sansa & Arya moments. Their bickering was fun to read b/c it showed the contrast in their characters. Deep down, they truly love each other. I think after all that they have been through, they will love each other and cherish what they have more. Even Sansa, who was very indifferent towards Jon in the beginning was wishing to see him again in AFFC. It showed that she'd matured from her girlie's way of thinking. Can't wait for them to find each other again and unite once and for all to rule the Seven Kingdom.

Speaking of siblings interactions, the Targaryan's siblings weren't that sweet or caring but that's b/c they were constantly running for their lives and Viserys was just crazy. Wonder what he would think of Danny now if he were alive. It would be she who would say to him, "You woke the dragon!" and send one of her dragons to scare the hell out of him. :D

Even the hateful Lannisters showed some brotherly love. Tywin & Kevan; Tyrion & Jamie; and the incest kind - Jamie & Cersei.

Yeah, Viserys would have probably been much more normal if he hadn't suffered years of hardship that hurt his pride and made him fear for his life (no actual assassins were after him, but they certainly could have been). Though I do think he would have eventually gone the same way as his father; he clearly had the madness.

My favorite character is Tyrion and he is also the one I worry the most about: not that he will suffer some horrible fate (which is almost guaranteed), but that he really will become a monster like his father and sister. It does seem like he should meet Jon Snow before the end, since they became friends near the beginning of the story.

Viserys definitely was as mad as his father. And, I think, he was also not very smart - Dany took all the good genes :D

About Tyrion, it's true that I'm also a bit worried...
Especially since his own aunt admited that he was the one who took the most after his father. And that he killed him so heartlessly (not that it didn't make me giggle, BTW :XD that dude really deserved his death).
Oh well, I'll gather my thoughts about him once ADwD will be out, so I can read it andhis parts x______x

I have some exciting news to share.

(But please, guys and gals, don't get TOO excited. This is what it is, and so far that's all it is, so don't make any assumptions).

HBO has just exercised its option, and purchased the television rights to A GAME OF THRONES.

For those of you who don't know Hollywood, an option gives a production company the right to buy a property (a book, a screenplay, whatever) at a certain agreed-upon price for a certain period of time (a year, six months, whatever). When that time runs out, they can let the option lapse, renew the option, or exercise the option and buy the property. The last is what HBO has just done.

What they have NOT done is greenlight the project. A GAME OF THRONES remains in development. They're still budgeting, still looking at locations (Spain and the Czech Republic at present, I hear). No decision has been reached, so any celebration would be premature. In Hollywood it is always best not to assume something is going to happen until it actually happens.

Even so... this is a very encouraging sign, and one that suggests a continued high level of enthusiasm and commitment for A GAME OF THRONES at HBO.

So keep your fingers crossed.

Well there's more to that; apparently, if the serie gets OK, he'll get to write the scenario for one episode per season, which is... kind of awesome :D As a reminder, he did write scenarios for Hollywood previously (The 4th dimension, in the 80's and other stuff). I read some, it was really interesting. He also had an idea of parallel worlds that made me think of Sliders, except in much better ways... too bad it got cancelled, it could have been good - but then, we wouldn't have ASOIAF and I'd be a sad fan :lmao

I just picked up the first book from the bookstore yesterday, and read it backwards in the sense that I have only followed Dany's story and now I am going back for the others. I was just that interested in her.

I am so impressed with the authors writing and the fact that he actually captureds my attention. I have a very short attention span and if I don't like the book after the first chapter I tend to return it it and get my money back.

I picked up the book because after having stalk Syn all the way to this FC I read through it and decided to read whatever you where guys where reading.

WOW, so many things happened that I feel exhausted.

Eddard's downfall was his honor and pride, if he had been more conniving he would have gotten Cersei. Dany's story is so sad but she becomes strong out of her expreinces. I am not sure though, is she barren?

Sansa really likes to lie to herself but then again she is really young. I didn't like Robert and his way of ignoring every problem that stared at him in the face. He was obviously tire, somehow I think he had a death wish. Jon was a good character but I find it that the place where they put him was rather boring, at least it felt that way to me. I would skip all the training talk and found the intrigues of the palace and Dany's story far more interesting.

I am off to buy A Clash of Kings.

Dany is leading a very interesting story. She lost so much but gain quite a lot as well. I read only two or three interesting chapters from Jon and I am very curious about what they are going to do. Yes, Eddard should have stayed home, he should have never left for fat, irresposible Robert.

Everything went to hell, but it if hadn't it wouldn't be epic.:D

I think I was left with the impression that Dany has lesbian tendencies because she them willingly took Irri to her bed. No at the end of her story in A Storm of Swords Dany takes Irri to her bed and has sex with her. That is what I was referring, I know that unmarried women slept with their handmaidens and that it was common pratice. What I am saying is that I don't understand why she won't find herself a male lover that would serve the same purpose.

She takes Irri to sleep (as in, not having sex with her), but if you read well, you'll see that she actually switches girls because she allows them to sleep (as in sleeping, not having sex once again) with her as giving them an honour.
It happens that she had this lust impulse but it had - nothing - to do with Irri, as far as I remember. Irri just happened to be there and notice her need - and only thought of doing her duty to please her queen and that was it. And, just in case you didn't notice, it really set Dany off too XD
As for the males, don't worry too much about that. :lmao

Tom Canty has delivered the covers and interior cover plates for the Subterranean Press signed limited edition of A FEAST FOR CROWS, Bill Schafer has informed me. With all the artwork finally in hand, the book is headed for the printers.

HBO has given the production order.

They will be filming the pilot episode of A GAME OF THRONES.

It's just the pilot so far. They'll need to see that before they decide whether to proceed with a full season's episodes. So let's all hope the pilot will kick serious ass.

It should. David Benioff and Dan Weiss did a terrific job with the script. And yes, all of you can relax, it's very faithful. Dan and David will be the executive producers for the pilot and (we hope) the eventual series.

More details when I have 'em. The news is very fresh. HBO just issued their own press release, which should be up on their website soon, if it's not there already.

Winter is coming to HBO. Hot damn.
