i was just wondering what ppl's ideas were about hell?
like wat do u actually think its like?
who is it ran by, if its raan by any1 at all etc?
i actually hope there isn't a hell arc exactly , but by the end of the sory i hope kubo explains ALL of the loose ends that ppl will still be confused about. and hell is the biggest mystery imo.
if it were up to me i would just say hell is run by shinigami, like soul society. except all of hell is just like a prison place where normal souls and hollows will reside, inprisoned till they die.
like the uniforms of hell shinigami may differ from soul society shinigami. after reading the bleach pilot i thought maybe outline of the hell shinigami's uniforms could have white edges, just to make the uniforms slihgtyly diffrent to differenciate between soul society shinigami and hell shinigami.
perhaps their could be shinigami divisions in hell too, but not as many as soul society (like 5 maybe) as hell wouldn't have as many ppl i guess. so there could be captains too.
the shinigami could be seated officers, v.captains and captains, and could report to the central 46 chambers as their high authority guys. like soul society. they could have a captain commander like yamamoto too i guess.
the only problem would be who would the shinigami be? like where are they from? from soul society or hell? if they were from hell then they would be evil so thats bad...maye they could be from soul society but the only reaon we havn't heard of them b4 is cos nobody wants to work in hell with those maniacs so ppl tend not to talk about it.
anyway those are my ideas.
I don't think hell has shinigami at all. My bet is that hell is close to a "prison", and there is just one all-powerful being (who is neither good nor evil) who punishes the evil spirits to go to hell.
I also doubt there will be a hell arc, just because i don't see what could be done with it. I do think hell will be somehow involved in the next arc, but not the main focus of it.
...Hueco Mundo is the bleach universes version of Hell. Its basically Soul Society=Heaven, Karakura=Earth, Hueco Mundo=Hell. At least thats my take on it, especially since when souls are purified they are sent to Soul Society, but if they remain with their griefs/sin they go to Hueco Mundo as a hollow.

@Rain: I have to agree with you on the whole Hell arc, though it would be interesting to see.

Karin, Cockatiel.
And Hell in bleach is most likely ran by its own set of demonic hollows.
Think about it, if Soul Society is where plus souls go, and some of those souls become shinigami, then minus souls (hollows) going to hell would mean that if it is organized by anyone, it would be a self-created system. Hell would be run by minus souls.
Now the difference being that the zanpakuto cleanses the soul of it's hollow power, so they would actually just be a bunch of souls with holes in their chests, and some of them could very well gain powers.
Think Chad, with a hole in his chest ;)

i was thinking something like this part too. the hollows could all look like this, nut the pluses look normal.
i still think hell should be ran by shinigami though, to keep order and balance of spirits and stuf.

it depends on what hell is.
if hell is a place where souls are slowly cleansed of evil, prepared to be returned back to life, then yes, it should be.
but if hell is a place where souls go to be locked up forever, there is no balance keeper, as no souls would ever leave from hell.
Or maybe they all get cleansed and turned into hell butterflies.
Based on the Existence Wheel (I'm not sure if that's the English term... I know in French it is "la Roue des Existences") in Buddhism, I can totally see Kubo being inspired loosely by that, but only inspired.
You have at the top the God's world and under them (from each side) one plan with half-gods and another with humans. The half-gods are always at war with the Gods (remind you something?). Then you have a plane for the animals and one for the greedy. And under that, the hell.
All those worlds are on different planes, and people in them are unable to see each other (mmh, that doesn't remind you -something-, really? XD).
At the top, you have the shinigami (gods), who have a say on life and death (especially death) matters. You have the human world, and the hollow (half-gods) world. The hollow are the one who fight a lot (even amongst their own ranks, like the half-gods do). And you have hell (let's say the two others are not that interesting for a mangaka XD).
I am not sure that there is anything remotely like a shinigami there. Although there must be some kind of organisation watching over them.
One of my wildest theories actually is that Aizen wants the King's throne to be able to go to Hell for a dark and hidden reason, which would led us to the Hell arc, but hey, that's just one wild theory.

I like Syn's concept ^^
My own is different though; since Urahara compared the shinigami to "balancers", and we've seen that SS isn't at all a completely good place, even if it's likened to heaven I don't think it is.
In SS there is "Seireitai" - but this is still a place with a questionable and unkind history. I think that SS is more like Purgatory, different levels ranging between very good and bad.
Heaven exists on a separate plane, and considering all the trouble that Aizen is going through to become the King, I don't think getting in is at all easy.
Then there's Hell. In SS there r lower districts like Zaraki which are filled with crime and bloodshed. Plus souls aren't just good people, plus souls are just ordinary.
From the glimpse we saw when that serial killer guy was taken to Hell, I'm guessing that the place involves a lot of torture and suffering and stuff that ends in screaming. :headscratch
...Hueco Mundo is the bleach universes version of Hell. Its basically Soul Society=Heaven, Karakura=Earth, Hueco Mundo=Hell. At least thats my take on it, especially since when souls are purified they are sent to Soul Society, but if they remain with their griefs/sin they go to Hueco Mundon as a hollow.
Actually if you notice at the very start of bleach (Encounter with hollow Shrieker), hell was said to be a separate place where an impure soul undergoes continuous purification, even after being purified by a shinigami.
Also, it looks as if there was something else in charge of that place. If you recall that massive sword that stabbed that hollow before taking it in, that's what i'm referring to. >__>
Anyway, just my two cents. -.Q

personally i hate th fact that there is a hell.
i think it was reminisant of kubo's early bleach ideas which was put in that should've come out, like the pilot.
kubo's style has changed alot and i think if he was like he is now back then, he wouldn't have made hell anyway.
huenco mundo should be hell imo...but it's not...
Like Syn, I think that Bleach cosmology is based upon Buddhist's one. But I don't agree with some of her conclusions. Soul Society can't be Paradise (or the God's world) when something as Rukongai exists.. And as ch156 title states clearly: "Welcome to Purgatory". That highest world, must be elsewehere.. probably where the Souls King resides.
Look at this ppl: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Six_realms ;)
Deva realm = King's dimension
Asura realm = Soul Society
Human realm = Human world
Animal realm = ..
Hungry Ghost realm = Hueco Mundo
Naraka realm = Hell
The only thing related to the Animal realm I can think about is.. Komamura. It's pretty random, but.. we don't know anything about his origins, he's so unique in all the Bleach multiverse to seem out of place in this manga, and he's animal based.. Maybe, he's from this other dimension? :p
Everything else fits perfectly. Shinigami being demi-gods that lives a better life than humans but envy the gods (=Aizen's desire?), hollows being "hungry ghosts" that can't drink nor eat food.. etc.
About Hell..
I think that a completely different race rule over it (not shinigami, nor hollows). Some sort of "demons" (ruthless, but not totally evil) that have an agreement with Shinigami's (or possibly Soul's King).. since the dawn of time. I'm actually hoping for a Hell Saga to come. My guess revolves around the idea of the breaking of that contract.. for whatever reason.. maybe Aizen will be involved, maybe by the time thats happen he'll be already dead. And after that, an all out "Heaven vs Hell"

I like Hell. It's scary, unknown, absolute, and has no need to tell us anything. Ironically, Hell is beyond us. It need not dirty it's hands explaining to us how it works. Just realize, there is a chance you can go there.
Yes I mean in the series. Enhance your calm.
Oh, Air, excellent point XD You convinced me XD
Actually, I was trying to find a way to make it fit, because I knew it was based on Buddhist mythology (and my memories of the 6 Realms are like OLD STUFF). But I didn't see the hollow <--> hungry souls comparison (that, for some reason, escaped me). Now it fits perfectly, thanks XD

well, like most of what kubo bases things on, religious wise, it's really just inspired by.
Instead of 6 realms, they have 5, and the Shinigami can't see the kings dimension yet.
But the rest is pretty close.

I think it will either go one of two ways, for Hell in bleach. 1. Hell becomes of one of the many things that Kubo has touched on, then evolved it no more in the series. 2. There will be a whole arc and story devoted to it. My point is, that it won't be briefly mentioned or anything like that, again.

Glad someone brought up this subject, I have actually started a Bleach fanfic to explore Hell. I have a few theories about it, mainly concerning how it operates.
People usually associated Hell with a permanent prison of punishment, but there is an emphasis in Bleach on the flow of souls when we learn about the imbalance the Quincies were causing 200 years ago. There is a constant circulation that must be maintained.
Rukia said the Zanpakto can only cleanse a soul of the evil deeds it did as a Hollow, but those who were evil in their lives go to Hell. But, since there are no new souls created, just recycled souls, then does that mean that a soul merely stays in Hell until it has absolved itself of it's evil, then it returns to the flow of souls from the real world to the Soul Society?
I think that while it might not get it's own arc, Tite Kubo may have set in motion in the beginning of the series the potential to explore this place. The Soul Society, Hueco Mundo and Hell were all mentioned in the first 16 episodes that lead up to the first arc, so there is a good chance that Tite Kubo does plan on making an arc. Considering the odd circumstances Ichigo always finds himself in, maybe the soul of someone he cares about is killed and by some chance is mixed up and sent to Hell because the bad guys found some loophole that would confuse the souls or something...he's come up with some pretty crazy stuff, I don't doubt that Kubo can come up with a reason to send Ichigo into Hell to save someone once again =P

your theory sounds good...
my theory was like a shinigami controlled prison...but the souls wouldn't stay there foreva, like soul society. they can die and be re-incarnated earth to keep the balance of souls.

Ok i have a serious bleach Question.
What the hell man! Bleach designers forget so mutch Stuff. I want to learn more about the Gates to the underworld, as shown and mentined in series 1 where the hollow was stabbed and then pulled into the Gates.
What are these Gates. and what was that thing the stabbed the hollow? the gate watcher?
If the Underworld Gate was part of the story imagine what would be happening in teh Bleach storys, Demons and devils, and all of that stuff. the story would have a hole new teist if the next thing we see after the HM arc is the UW arc.
Where ichigo and his "Gang" are sent to the Underworld or for some reason end up going there. If ichigo is the main character its possible he could posses some Demon or Underworld powers when he goes there or get tought them or somthing.
The underworld takes peoples souls who have commited Crimes while alive. Now that means that Any person who was bad while they where alive is sent there. The how come we havnt seen it since. Hundreds of hollows dying but None of them Where bad in life? Yeah i dont buy that for a second.
also what the hell...
this means there are 4 different worlds
The Human realm
the Soul society
Hueco Mundo
and the underworld...
WTF!
Please i've Babbled enough. Discuss!
that would be the worst thing ever...i guess the demons would kidnap tatsuki and ichigo will go there not before he will learn his mother was a demon and he is a shinigami\hollow\demon hybrid and when he gets to hell he will meet a demon girl that will join his harem and frankly that will be really bad.
ichigo must never fight demons or angels...

It be more like they kidnapped Nel this time.........anyway if hell is ever introduced I doubt they would kidnap anyone they'd just come a murder people for the hell of it, and for other reasons like Lucifier wanting Ichigo for helping to take over the world or something. And if hell is introduced again it'll be during the the Main War after KK towns destroyed maybe the demons will be watching everything unfold during the War. Whilst planning to move after a timeskip yeah sounds Narutoish but thats how I see it happening, but with all that aside if there is a Hell arc it'd be awesome, however, I do doubt it'll happen because it seems the Royal Dimension arc will be the last big arc of Bleach with the series finishing up with a mini-arc.
if bleach repeat itself as it does then the demons wont be evil and somehow SS commited a genocide against them and it will still suck bad time. there is a reason you never seen the hell gates again, and that because TK dont want to go there, he dont want anyone else to go there as well. its no secret that bleach have alot of holes and that it wasnt a complete work from the start, the show progressed as TK came up with something to fill the next week show. hell was a mistake and i wont be suprised if its full of shinigamis and nothing close to demons, just some kind of prison for assholes.

i think hell is just like a prison version of soul society, nothin speical. where those evil souls go who cannot be purified with zanpakutou.
shinigami probably run that place too. maybe just not as large as the gotei 13 maybe.
what the hell wtf what the hell?
the errr...bleach designers...don't forget "so much stuff" simply because an area of the story hasn't been revisited.
Hell was mentioned and included to give us a complete overview of the way the spiritual worlds work in Bleach at a time when we were first learning about these things, the fact that it hasn't been revisted just means its not been relevant. It may be brought back into the story at a later date but it'll only play a decent part if it becomes relevant to the plotlines in the story.
The how come we havnt seen it since. Hundreds of hollows dying but None of them Where bad in life? Yeah i dont buy that for a second.
Please list these hundreds of hollows that we've seen die, especially just from a zanpakutou since quincy weapons completely annihilate the soul anyway.
Then consider how many rapists, murderers and "hardened criminals" there actually are in the world in comparison to the quantity of people living in it.
Its not that unexpected.
Also Ichigo getting demon or underworld powers? The whole plot of bleach revolves around the shinigami/hollow divide and subsequent breaching of boundaries, thats what Ichigo needs to focus on.

Both threads about Hell in bleach merged. :-_-
It's possible Hell could get Don Kononji'd right out of the series. It's happened before, it could happen again. If there was a greater plan for it (very possible btw) then don't worry people, we will see it again.

Yes I think in retrospect hell is irrelevant to Bleach. It was mentioned and shown in the early drafts of Bleach, the first few chapters. They have a heaven and a hell, heaven being SS, and Hueco Mundo is not meant to be a hell, as hollows are not inherently evil..Hence, Kubo had to use hell as a contrast to Heuco Mundo, it is there for simply that, not to play any further development imo..
i wouldnt call SS heaven...DOWN WITH THE KING!

The Underworld is actually Heuco Mundo. It becomes more of Six Realm of Hell: God (Son of God), Demi-God, Human Being, Animal, Hungry Ghost and Hell itself, which has been illustrated in Heuco Mundo through Grimmjow through and through the series. Las Noches is the place that governs these beings in Hell.
Is also applied to reality that life is a living hell DDD8

A pretty interesting subject to talk about... But they didn't mention so much of it in the anime series, so I have nothing to say xD

I believe that Hell is ruled by the Shinto goddess Izanami who I think once ruled the Soul Society. She wants to Rule the Soul Society again but somone has to bring Aizen back alive inorder for her to agree to it. It would nice to have a Hell Arc but it would probably never happen.
