His hobby is caring for his bonsai, but Ukitake has no idea where and how he should cut it, and zero aesthetic sense. He's publishing a series called "Sougyo Refuses!" which is an action-adventure story in which the main character, Sougyo, fights evil and saves innocent villagers. Sougyo's catchphrase, "I refuse you!", is tremendously popular among the children of Seireitei. It's out of print, but when it's published, it's always in the top three most popular serials.

Some websites will have 'Jushiro' that way, since it just basically shortens the name in Romanji instead of Jyuushirou -> Jushiro. So I'm sure if you look around you'll find it :)

Haha thanks everyone! I'll probably be off and on at odd intervals due to school but it's great to have the fanclub back up.

I also feel this entire Isshin revelation will eventually bring us to Ukitake's story sooner or later. He's the only one out of the three seniors who was just ignored by Kubo ever since this arc started. Sad really.

Well, we did find out Karakura Town is within the 13th Div., juristiction. Because of that, and judging by Isshin's reaction to it, Ukitake might be notified sooner than later.

Dah, I do really hope we get more info on Ukitake. I really do think it will start to come, since we're getting Unohana's background, Kyouraku's just been promoted, etc. And as has already been mentioned, Ukitake seems to have the biggest ties to the Shiba family. I wonder how close Kaien and Isshin were...

That's exactly what I think. Some people think he is in his mid 40s but I think that is bit exaggerated. although I have to admit Shunsui does seem a bit older than him, but they are supposed to have the same age. I dunno ... :(

Xianghua is right, during Rukia's flashback we could only see his back (and his lovely long hair :fangirl) And when Kubo drew that poster, we still hadn't see his face.

Hum, I'd say a little more (early 40s, less than 44). For me, "a man in his 30s" is more for Byakuya :b

Mid-thirties for sure. In spite of his beautiful white hair, he actually looks very young comparitively speaking, especially to poor Kyoraku now (who lost part of his ear and eye.)

Yes definitely, it should be great because at some point we have to see Ukitake fighting at full power. How else is it going to happen ?
The real question is how, since noone was able to cure him till now I pressume.

Well, we don't know much of how they function at all, except that Urahara made a replica in the SS. They may/may not be able to cure him, but since Kirinji is the healer, you never know.

I totally agree with you xian, I'm sure that Ukitake is as strong as Kyoraku anyways. They were at the same thime in the shinigami academy anyways ;)
Luckely he wont be ill anymore in this arc, if Kubo keeps his promise.
Hopefully we will see some more background and his bankai, eventually why not a Kyoraku vs Ukitake battle? That could be kinda interesting since they've nearly the same power lvl :)
But I dont think this will ever happen :(

Yes I'm sure it would be a long fight! Not only they now each other very well, they also have nearly similar swords (They're the only one in whole SS to have double swords) And not talking about the fact that they both dont like using violence to obtain something but that they prefer to talk to solve the problems. x)

Yeah, Ukitake seems to have very strong bonds with a lot of characters and well, he did have a very high regard for Kaien (he even implored Kaien to join his squad as a lieutenant) so I wonder how friendly he would be with Isshin. Since we have returned to the Soul Society in the Everything but the Rain chapters, there may be a good chance that Isshin may console with Jushiro over some details about his expedition to the World of the Living.

If not, there is still a lot of possibility after Everything but the Rain. Assuming Ukitake hasn't worked out that Ichigo is related to Kaien, I wonder how this will make him think of both Ichigo and even Isshin?

Perhaps Ichigo will become closer to Ukitake as a family friend through Isshin? I have to admit, I really enjoy Jushiro's character because of his kindness and compassion for other characters - he is another in-depth Captain that has a strong emotional quality that influences others.

Yet, besides the fact that he attended the Academy when he was younger, and the few bits we saw of him during TBTP arc, we know next to nothing about him. I dunno about you, but I think there's wayyyy more to this guy than we think. How can someone that sweet and kind be single, for one. And second, I'm just curious about how he even MET Yamamoto, or even became a shinigami for that matter. We know Unohana had developed her powers by the point she was found, and Kyoraku was sort of sent to Yamaji for further training. Ukitake, we just don't know.

And in the Thousand Year Blood War Omake, everyone's bloodline/backstory will be revealed, so heres hoping we get some nifty insight into Ukitake as a character.

So far we have had snippets of Shunsui - I for one would like to see how the two first met (most likely in the academy). Not to mention Ukitake is a lessor noble Shinigami, some insight into his family would be great as well. Perhaps even his hair changing to the colour of white due to his illness.

So many things would make for great characterisation.

Well, I think the same can be said for a majority of the shinigami - the ones we don't know much about like Ukitake. I still count Unohana and Kyoraku in that as well, compared to most of the other captains like Soi Fon, Hitsugaya, Byakuya ect.,
But the thing about Uki is that he's so personable, you never know what sort of relationships he's had/has with the others.

I think Kubo will most definitely elaborate on Jushiro and his past, I mean so far we had a snippet of Shunsui, Kenpachi and Unohana's so Jushiro should be next.

Not to mention that I doubt even Shunsui's is entirely over - but some elaboration on Jushiro's Zanpakuto and his family would be nice. Particularly what he was like back in the earlier days. Maybe he wasn't so kind? :p Hard to believe, but I can dream.

Jushiro would be proud and very happy for his friend, though I think he would be encouraging of Shunsui to make the right choices especially in a time of war. The Unohana incident will be interesting, I wonder how he would feel about Shunsui sentencing their Senpai to death - I wonder if they're unknowing of the fact that this was her wish. Assuming he does die, Jushiro is a whimsical man, he has strong bonds with everyone despite who they are two him, subordinate or otherwise.

Assuming Isshin is persecuted by C46/Gotei 13 in this flash back (I think otherwise) I wonder how he would feel about that type of events concerning a Shiba. There is so much insight I would like to see regarding his character it is not funny. :mad:

Not to mention that I doubt even Shunsui's is entirely over - but some elaboration on Jushiro's Zanpakuto and his family would be nice. Particularly what he was like back in the earlier days. Maybe he wasn't so kind? Hard to believe, but I can dream.

Yes, Kubo already confirmed that we will get Shunsui's past regarding the pink robe he always wears. This will most likely tie Ukitake in the story as well, but I'm afraid that would be all regarding Ukitake's past, nothing more. :'c

Fingers crossed though, hopefully Kubo will deliver this time for both characters in a fashion that does both their mysterious auras justice.

I'm guessing he "changed" when he started to travel down the path of a shinigami. I like to believe that the kindness he has been exuding for the majority of the manga is just a facade. Maybe just to hide his sadness and what he had endured in the past? Whatever it may be, I hope we find out.

As I can recall Ukitake (even though we only see it from Yamamoto's flashback) when he was at the academy was at the center of attention and was very kind. I get the impression that he always had a nice and caring personality.
But I DO believe there is a dark spot in his past. He was captain for many many years and I am pretty sure he confronted the quincies .
With all these guys suddenly popping out and attacking Soul Society, they must have a good reason to be pissed off.
I want to believe Ukitake had to do with some ''tragedy'' in the past and now feels some kind of remorse.
As Kyouraku said : In a war both sides are evil. I believe the same goes for Ukitake ....

Ukitake himself is a very personable shinigami, and values - has always valued, his friendships. No doubt the death of his comrades would play a part in making him despondent, if that ever happened.

Something I would want to see are his brothers and sisters, he takes care of them after all. I doubt Kubo will touch that though :(

Well so far Kubo has been slowly piecing together some of the back stories and given the length of this arc, I don't see why we can't hope for something elaborate.

Some academy days/insight into his life would be nice, but it needs to tie into the overall plot. Maybe something to do with his illness?

If he's gonna get cured, we'll probably see how he became sick in the first place. But I agree with Jushiro :c I wanna see his siblings - he seems like such a good older brother too.

Jushiro definitely has that respectable and loving elderly brother vibe, we do know that he has an affinity to children after all.

Was it ever established that his family and siblings are still alive? I think it would be interesting to learn that his siblings were some how killed because of Jushiro or due to some unforeseen circumstance and he grew up and became the kind loving and humble man he is today because of what happened. :(

That would be a nice sense of emotion and dramatics surrounding his character.

How could Jushiro have managed to keep track of and support all seven of his siblings? That could be a story in and of itself. He does seem like the kind of person who would figure out a way to take care of his siblings.

Well, Jushiro is from a lessor noble family and according to Character Book of Souls they born within the Seireitei. So there is reason to suggest they probably live in the Soul Society. Maybe on his property?

According to this Aristocrats (nobles) like the Kuchiki and Shihouhin family are born in the Seireitei. Ukitake is from a lessor noble family, so going by the Character Book of Souls I would say he was never sent to Rukongai.

Well, not all souls go through the trauma of ending up in Rukongai. But we do know he has an illness and I do believe his hair changed from black to white over the course of three days, so there seems to be some foreshadowed trauma there.

It will be interesting to see just how much of his back story ties in with Shunsui's if we do see that. Maybe Ukitake never had a good family life, maybe he supported his siblings because his family was off fighting in the Gotei 13?
