There was only one way to describe the way Keiji was feeling when he returned to headquarters.
Utter confusion.
Hollow's having human faces behind their mask was of no surprise to Keiji. It was a fact all shinigami learned back at the academy. However the problem was not that it had a human face, it was who that face happened to belong or looked similar too. It couldn't be, there was no way that such a thing was possible. After years of wondering what in the world had happened on that day he died, of her fate. After so many nights of sleeplessness pondering over it. After so many years of running into dead ends and finding no solution. This couldn't possibly the only lead that would unlock the many mysteries behind that day.
Still, it's better to not jump to conclusions. I need more evidence.
Keiji headed towards his room at 12th division headquarters. He had other priorities to look to. It had been a long while since he checked up on the human he met a while back, Virgil was it? When he saw him last he had given him the device his captain ordered to give to any human with enough reiatsu to even see him. He never really figured out what it did, except that it allowed him to keep track of whoever had one in their possession. Though, in the past few days he'd been too busy to actively keep track of it.
However he was more than surprised to see the information it was sending back to him. The human was no longer wearing it, and it had been there ever since a few hours after he handed it to him. Even worse, it was reporting the reiatsu of a hollow around it. What happened, did he lose it fighting a hollow, and did he die? He would have to go fetch the device later to confirm.
He turned his attention to his terminal. As third seat, he also had access to the headquarters monitoring system. What he saw made him laugh. That Lexi, giving the recruits a hard time. He would have to go reprimand her...
He then noticed the icon on his screen alerting him of a message from the captain. He was in the living world checking up on a new area and he wanted cover. "Strange, who would of thought that the captain of all people needed someone to cover his back, that one hollow was strong, but it wasn't anything beyond the captain. Guess he really didn't want to deal with any while researching. O well orders are orders."
And with that he used his mobile device to send Lexi a message and once again headed towards the living world. Who knows, maybe he'd find some answers to his many questions.
