i liked inoue ever since i saw her in that "famous" ep 2 scene, twirling that leek! :D hehe it's one of the weirdest and cutest thing ever! :nuts and that scene where she hugged hollow sora while explaining why she stopped praying for him - that was just heart-wrenching. :cry i guess i can say the rest was history from there.

one thing i also like about inoue: i especially love how yuki matsuoka does her voice in the anime. she captured inoue's personality really well. it's what i miss everytime i read the manga.(aside from sugiyama san's voice that is) :)

Lol! No it makes sense actually. That would be really shocking though. But, I kinda like Inoue being - not a shinigami. But a unique kind of warrior(just like Chad and Ishida). I like her being the healer/fighter that she is now. It would be a bit monotonous if they were all shinigamis, don't you think? :D

But how funny would it be if she randomly died and then didn't remember anything? :o (shinigami rarely remember what happened when they were alive- from Urahara in Memories of Nobody). Maybe that'd be too evil.

aquavit- good question, I think orihime will lose some of her naivete (innocence may be a better word). She saw violence in SS, but it wasn't nearly as bad as in HM. She is, and always has been on the "good guys" team, and I don't see that changing (would be cool though), the only change I bet will happen is she will be less innocent

That's perhaps one of the sad things about the HM arc, we're seeing a lovely carefree girl being abused and held captive. It will change her. If it doesn't it would be bad writing.

There's a part of me that wants her to stay the same but I know that to progress she has to go through all this, Orihime will become stronger.

Okay, as far as the captains that have shown up in HM go I kinda have a theory about how this is going to affect Orihime.

The four captains all have obvious Espada counterparts- Kenpachi + Nnoitra, Byakuya + Ulquiorra, Mayuri + Szayel, Unohana + Halibel (IMO)
But to a lesser extent they also have similarities to the humans (I count Ichigo in this category).

We've got Ichigo and Kenpachi who are both really strong beings, who, lets face it, are freaks in terms of power. Kenpachi symbolizes Ichigo's will to fight to some degree, as we've seen in halucinations.

Then we have Byakuya, who I believe resembles Chad to some degree. In the SS Arc Shunsui asked Chad why he was fighting for her when he'd only known Rukia for a short amount of time and Chad told him it was because it was what Ichigo wanted. Similarly during the SS Arc Byakuya followed orders completely. Both Byakuya and Chad speak very little, only when it's important.

Then we have Mayuri and Ishida, and while we know Ishida hates Mayuri, they are similar in how intelligent they are. Mayuri has also undeniably affected Ishida by informing him that he experimented on his grandfather.

Then we come to Unohana. She's a healer and therefore she's Orihime's foil. She says specifically that she's come to HM to heal and not to fight. Sound familiar? Does anyone else think that this captain has been brought to HM for her healing abilities, but also because she's going to give some valuable lesson to Orihime?

I agree Orihime needs a lesson on how to use her abilities in a way that suits her. She is more a healer than a fighter and it would be good if Unohana showed her how to do it.

This chapter and possibly the next 3 are going to be pure fanservice. I hope Orihime doesn't get taken back to SS as a traitor. If anything I want her to use this chance to make a break for it and start healing Ichigo and Nel so they can join in too.

Great post, Hiraeth! BTW, I expect Unohana to fight though 'cause I remember Urahara saying that even though the Division 4 are healers of the Gotei, they are battle ready. So I hope to see Unohana show a little violent side to her. Doesn't her name mean violent flower? Either way, I can't wait to see Unohana and Orihime interact. People always say that when Orihime does go to SS she'll be in the 4th Division. Might as well get an early start to the training. I do hope Unohana lets Orihime know that she is worthy to fight by everyone's side and that Urahara was an idiot to say otherwise. XD

Yes, I agree, it would be quite interesting.

Orihime as she stands now is a conflicted character, she is a pacifist and a healer basically but has shown the desire to fight(yet she isn't able to deliver in this area yet).

Unohana: She hates fighting..her main domain is healing. but probably would fight if necessary. But she confirms that she is a healer first and foremost.
Lets say..she has no inner conflict about that.

It would prove interesting if they meet.

Yes,

Unohana and Orihime share similarities:

1-They are both pacifists(they hate fighting) and compassionate.
2-They are both healers.
3-They both do have a side that is willing to fight. that part of their personality while and prolly will never be overwhelming..it is there and its part of the make-up in their personalities. Unohana means "violent" flower and is hinted at being strong several times. Orihime has Tsubaki and since Orihime powers are a reflection of her personality and since Tsubaki is not merely decoration added by Kubo, that means there is a fighting spirit in Orihime although not overwhelming, it does very much exist.

Ofcourse the differences:

-Unohana is an established captain division and is confident and accepting of her nature, she is at peace with herself.

-Orihime does have low-esteem problems, is insistent on fighting(but so far has failed to deliver in that area) The Loli-Menoli chapter proves that Orihime is a healer at heart first and foremost and not a fighter.
Most importantly, Orihime has yet to accept her nature or deal with it..she is conflicted. Orihime feels most confident and comfortable about her healing/restoration abilities(see when she heals ichigo when Grimmjaw came).

I believe Orihime's next development has to deal with self-acceptance of her nature. I think there will be some event that will trigger an efficient Tsubaki release..but his use will be limited.

What do you guys think?

I agree with most of it. I do see so many similarities between orihime and Unohana. they are both healers first, and warriors if they have to be.

The only difference I think of is that I doubt Unohana ever had reservations about fighting, and maybe she will have an impact of Orihimes demenour later on in the series, but I think its too soon for that to happen.

Jasse, great post. I think Unohana would make an excellent mentor for Orihime. I recall that Unohana took an interest in Orihime's powers so I think Unohana might seek her out to better understand her powers and hopefully to train her. And of course, who wouldn't want Unohana as a mentor? I agree with Rain that Unohana may be a healer but she likely has no qualms fighting. I assume that all shinigami captains have done their share of hollow-killing and are adept at fighting. Perhaps, Unohana uses kido to fight rather than her sword.

I'd love for Orihime to train under Unohana, but I'd also love for her to train under Hachi's guidance too, since he IS the closest one in power to her. Unohana I see more as being the one to boost Orihime's confidence and worth in her ability to heal, and Hachi I can see working with her power directly, as he's the only one who sorta knows what they're about.

Lady Scaper I see where you're coming from and I agree with you. It's best to keep this place neutral at least. If there's any alliance or even friends with any FC pairing it might be viewed as against the other rival ship. It's a touchy subject and I don't like any negative feelings. I want my Bleach fanclubs to be fun to post in and not somewhere where I have to watch what I say.

Although saying that I try to limit any fangirling about a certain pairing I like to the FC itself. I come to this FC because Orihime is my favourite character and I love everything about her.

The fact she's not in a ball sobbing is at least some testiment to her strength. Although what happens next is up to Kubo, I hope with the latest developments she gets some of her fire back.

That would be interesting but then others would say it would be copying a previous event that happened earlier in the storyline.

I think it means more of mental damage. I still think Orihime is strong for not letting that show because to me, she still is the same... except maybe for becoming a bit more mature but I think she's been 'maturing' since the chapter where the Arrancars appear on Earth for the first time.

AnimeGirlPan- the hougyoku is the gem-thing that Aizen removed from rukia at the end of the SS arc, and it has the power to instantly turn shinigami into vizards and hollows into arrancar (summed up quite a bit, but it works)

NAhh but i think ichigo was the best bet to have it in, and he purpously let orihime go for this purpose. Im sure aizen would have noticed orihimes reaitsu right away, and sent gin or tousen to see to the matter. Having it in ichigo would probably make the most sense, and it would insure that orihime would heal him. Speakiinggg of orihime, obviously xD, do you think ulquiorra is going to take her back? or will ichigo find a way to get her out of there..

The hougyoku is like the sacred shikon jewel in the oldschool inuyasha, which everyone has seen, exactly alike kinda xD

According to Kubo himself, Inoue weighs 45 KG (or around 99 lbs) while Ishida weighs 55 KG (or around 120 lbs). He's about a head taller and I draw them that way but yeah, she's definitely wider. Uryuu's one skinny kid.

I hope that soon Orihime will be able to develop her offensive ability. If she develops her powers, she will be a very well-rounded fighter: proficient in offense, defense, and healing. Her offense needs the most work. But since Orihime's fairies are part of herself, Tsubaki must be a part of her personality. So we know Orihime is a fighter somewhere deep inside!

1. Rukia XD
2. She seems weak (but shes not!)

4. Feel shes a sterotypical potrayal of a female from a males perspective
5. Shes goofy! =D
6. She gets her own arc.

Why i love the Hime:

1. Shes gorgeous!
2. Shes so sweet and innocent
3. Shes very strong, very strong (mentally)
4. She can bring back an arm that tousen amputated & kidou'd, beat that mo'fo!
5. She is a reliable friend
6. She has the equlivilent of 3 zanpaktous, and can use them all at once.

I always wonder why it works that you can generally get away with saying that you don't like a character because her boobs are big, but not many say they hate someone because he boobs are small. Maybe I'm just new to this character chest size hate. I come from the land of shoujo.

Brilliance is not something that is shown very much nowadays, just for the sheer reason intelligence is looked down on (particularly in America.) I think that's why Kubo made her that way. Besides, intelligence is usually characterized by a moody individual. Because Orihime is antithesis to moody (her parents beat her if she cried or made a sound similar,) many people consider her character stupid.

Bleach is my first big favourite manga (I came from Inuyasha.) So this discrimination was not new (InuKag vs InuKik was a pain in the butt.)

Yes, those are usually the reasons. And I don't get iiiit - you can be a hardcore IchiRuki shipper and still love Orihime, just not with Ichigo. And as for the second point, she has plenty of power and a unique power at that, she just needs the resolve to use it, and even if she didn't have powers, how would that make her a bad person? I for one loved Orihime before she had any power at all, she was just such a bundle of goofy awesomeness :D

Its like that in almost ever fandom. People always hate the character that's in the way of their OTP. Even some Ichihimes dislike Rukia. Same with Naruto [ Everything I do for EXAMPLES IS NARUTO >-<! ]. ShikaIno fans don't like Temari. NaruHina fans don't like Sakura. NaruSaku fans hate Hinata. Another famous pairing war example is Clorith and Cloti [ FFVII ]. Both sides hate the opposite girl.

I like Orihime even before she had her powers. I thought she was a brave girl to hug Acidwire, seeing Sora underneath the mask of the monster.

I'm just a hardcore RenRuki supporter (IchiHime I admit is very uncertain at many points.)

But I do have to agree with lala. It's just the general thing we feel from major obsessive fans of IchiRuki (I get nervous about their comments surrunding Senna.) But true Orihime haters in general either praise Rukia and/or hate Rukia as well. They praise Rukia because she is more modest then Orihime, or hate her for being a woman in general.

I am excited to see Orihime in this chapter. I was not expecting to see Orihime until after the Szayel/Mayuri fight.

I'm not so sure that she's as clueless as she appears. Maybe this is from my experience at about her age when I suddenly became a bit busty, and it's something you certainly notice. My reaction, like Orihime's, was not to wear plunging shirts or short skirts (I had crazy long gangly legs at 12, wore a short-ish skirt and got called a ho. That'll learn me something good.) Given Orihime's tendency to be very modest and covered-up, to me, shows that she's conscious of it. Part of her personality could also be to deflect from that (as well as losing her brother, but that's for another time...maybe), because by acting childish she doesn't necessarily earn that kind sexual of view despite what her body might say. Even though a man might look, he'd certainly gain a different opinion of her by talking to her. What she might not realize is that attracts certain men, but Bleach being a primarily action comic, I don't think we'd get much of a glimpse into that.

Like in that spare Kon chapter, he goes looking for her because 1) he likes her boobs and 2) he considers her "the goddess of mercy." What he forgets to take into account is that "Inoue brain."

As for me, I liked Orihime from the beginning too. I would like it if her offensive powers are developed more, so she can both heal and fight with Ichigo, Rukia, Uryuu, Chad, and etc. I know she has tried, but it is becoming more necessary for her to hold her own in battle.

Aren't they the best?! I especially think "Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again" totally fits with Orihime and Sora's relationship; he was a friend, and he was basically her father.
