More good news for me.. Since I'm a big SO fan and I'm getting a PS3. :)
Suspiciously absent from Square-Enix's list is Star Ocean 4, the first screenshots of which were revealed in Famitsu this week. It looks to be very heavy sci-fi, with decadent spaceships and the sprawling vacuum of space represented in shiny 3D. Falling right in line with Square’s recent behavior regarding the title -- at the Square-Enix Party event in May, they staged a press conference merely to announce that they would be announcing the game before the end of the year -- the main characters are only visible in one artfully fuzzy screenshot, and even then, it's only their backs.
The biggest piece of news revealed is that the game will be exclusive to PlayStation 3.

There is no bigger SO fan then me. XD I completed all them, even the super nes one, on emulator.
I think they might be seeting up SO4 as a lead main game for the system. And with good reason with how good it will be on ps3.
Seriously, if you haven't tried SO3 or 2, give them a try.

The Star Ocean 4 website is up and can be accessed here! (http://www.eternalsphere.com/so4/index.html)
Also here's a couple of scans (warning: they're huge.)
SCANS! :3

Japanese console RPG fans rejoice, as you are not alone in this corrupt world of casual gaming and first-person shooters (no offense to those lost souls). Worry not, as one of your brethren is here with the Good Word... the good word on Star Ocean 4.
A few of our other "brethren" have sent in scans from the latest issue of Famitsu (see below). Thanks to all that did so. The scans don't show much, but they're still worth a look. And why is it that no one is facing the camera?
Also, Square Enix has launched a Japanese Star Ocean portal site called Eternal Sphere. It has teasers and information on the upcoming games from Square Enix's "other, other" RPG series. Unfortunately, there are only teaser splash pages for the titles we really want to know about, namely Star Ocean First Departure and Second Evolution (both for PSP), and of course, Star Ocean 4. All three of these will make a showing at this years Tokyo Game Show.
The last bit of news comes to us from Next-Gen.biz, as they came across something we must have missed. They say that Star Ocean 4 will be a PS3 exclusive title. It's a bit surprising to hear that, as most of Square Enix's other properties seem to be going multiplatform. Star Ocean has always been a PlayStation series, so the fourth one should be right at home on the PlayStation 3.
Next-Gen is also saying that Star Ocean 4 has the potential to be for the Star Ocean series what Oblivion was for the Elder Scrolls games. I don't know that we've seen enough of the game to say that yet, but let's hope that this is true.

Oh God its BEAUTIFUL!!!!
:cry:cry:cry
THANK YOU BYAKUYA!!:hug:cry
I don't know if I'm happy or sad about this. I still have a bad taste in my mouth after the plot twist in SO3. IMO, that was one of the most retarded plot twists ever.
Ah whatever, I played it for the battle system anyway.

Shad, you have to get a hold of SO2, somehow. I think I actually like the overall game for SO2 more then SO3, but absolutely love the battle system and battle trophies for SO3 more. I actually was able to get all 300. Took for-freakin-ever.
Thanks for the scans Bya! Give me goose bumps. It will be awesome!
Exactly what plot twist are you talking about slev? Lol, there's is quite a bit, and yea, most weren't that good. I'll admit the story was lacking a lot at times, but overall, it kept me entertained.
I just hope SO4 doesn't have the same "OMG I'm stuck on a technology crippled plant", through the whole story, like SO2 and 3. The Star Ocean universe has so much potential for a lot more sci fi goodness.

Ha really? Being stuck on a low-tech planet was great imo, it was the best part of the game.
Anyways not sure if you've read this already, from IGN:
Following its surprise announcement at the Square Enix Party this past May, we at last have first details on Star Ocean 4. The latest issue of Famitsu has an interview with SO4 producer Yoshinori Yamagishi and assistant producer Hajime Kojima. The two spilled out a few tantalizing bits prior to the game's proper unveiling at the Tokyo Game Show.
Currently, the game is in a running state, Kojima revealed, with players able to take control of battle. Although, he admitted, the current battle system is, at best, temporary. Clarifying, Yamagishi stated that the basics of the battle system are currently in place, but the development team has to add and remove elements, and perform balance work.
The battle system, incidentally, will be party-based and support up to four allies. Kojima expects it to offer a different feel from the battles of SO3
The game's storyline is currently complete. But, it turns out, the first bit of story information was available as far back as the Square Enix Party, as Square Enix had figures of the characters on display! Most people didn't notice, Kojima regretfully admitted to the magazine.
The name of the game's hero is Edge Maverick. The heroine's name is Reimi; Kojima wouldn't reveal if that's just part of a full name, or if the heroine really does have just one name. These two characters are childhood friends who are now part of the same organization and have been stationed on the same ship.
Yes, ship. Star Ocean 4 will, expectedly, continue the same space theme of past entries. Players have their own ship this time around and can travel freely through the stars, landing and exploring as they like. The game will feature a large number of planets, although Kojima noted that players will be able to land their ship in places that aren't really properly formed planets.
Your ship is quite big. Yamagishi referred to it as a survey ship rather than a battle ship. He wouldn't confirm if the game will have ship-based battles.
Typical of the series, the game will offer a mix of science fiction and fantasy elements. Kojima feels that while the ability to get your own ship may make players picture a more sci-fi slant, the game's fantasy side hasn't taken a hit. He feels that more than previous titles, SO4 fits the "Star Ocean" name. Yamagishi chimed in here, stating that the balance between science fiction and fantasy will be better than any previous entry in the series.
The two wouldn't give out the details on the game's time period, but Yamagishi said that we should look forward to TGS, where the time period would be revealed in the form of a surprise. Don't worry too much about major changes, though, as the game will have characters and races connected to previous entries.

Okay...One thing.....Edge Maverick? Really? :p
But the game seems cool, and It really seems like something I'd pick up if I could afford a badass 600 dollar game system
Gah! I can't wwait for all the 4s and 5s to come out
(DMC4, RE5, SC4, SO4) XD

Like the Edge part. Don't like the Maverick part. haha.
So glad it will finally have more of scifi feel to it. Your own ship will rock. Lots of planets to go to finally. hehe.
I'm interested to see exactly what type of battle system it will be after reading that. SO3 was very much like SO2, with minor changes of coures. I hope they don't overall it completely.
All the Star Oceans have go forward through time for the games. I don't think they will be going back randomly. Maybe just not as far a jump though between previous games.

Omg, I'm glad I saw this thread. I didn't even know there's a Star Ocean 4 in the works. I've played 'Star Ocean: Till the End of Time' numerous times. I love the game so much :love ...In fact, I have all the RPG's made by Square-Enix. I just finished Final Fantasy XII and now, I'm currently playing 'Dawn of Mana.'
Is Star Ocean 4 a sequel to 'Till the End of Time?' Or is it a separate story?
@Byakuya: Thanks for the info! :)

The "OMG we were in a video game all along" plot twist. It was just horrible, imo.

Yea, I'll agree that was kinda goofy, but it could have been worse. I do hope that SO4 doesn't have anything to do with the 4D realm, but it probably will somewhat.

Probably about 90% sure it won't be any kind of direct sequel. But it's still the same universe, unlike Final Fantasy, so there is always the chance of references to the other games, like in SO3, when they referenced Claude from SO2.
