hm.. sounds quite plausible too.. if she's the very first one then i guess she doesn't have any actual number =P But if she was there before Aizen then she was not an espada (espada-level perhaps but she would technically not be espada since Aizen created the espada)

...or maybe she's some sort of "espada prototype-0" ?? (I'm into mecha stuff at the moment so yeah.. O__o;; )

I am kinda leaning with the idea of the espada prototype, Beee mentioned. I think she might have been around before Aizen started this hierarchy. Though if she was an original espada, considering how powerful the ones Ichigo fought before were...and the fact that she massacred the former espada Ichigo first fought, she had to be high...so I said 2 cuz 1 just sounds too easy...

I think she was #5, because Noitora (current #5) seems to know her, while Grimmjow didn't seem to know her when he was yelling at her to stop whining so Orihime could heal Ichigo. Yeah. x__x"

Or, that he replaced Nell. And besides, Nnoitara may have just been as Espada before Grimmjaw, so it's totally possible that Nell was one of the original Espada. It still doesn't explain why she can't stay in Las Noches for a long time though....

I'm secretly hoping that she was the primera espada, with the key word being "was."

She is strong, but presumably, the newer top-tier espada are stronger than her now. If she were to be numbered now, I would want her somewhere around 3-5.

It's hard to think of Nell as an Espada ranked 1-5 but who know what Kubo has in store for us this week.

I'm under the impression she's the former #1 Espada. No terribly compelling argument to back this up, just the old gut instinct

Nnoitra himself mentions the pathetic state she's in, now this could be due to just her cowering on the ground, but it can also indicate a that it's not her true form.

It'd also explain the reason she wasn't recognized by Grimmjow, Ulquiorra and Dordonni. While Nnoitra recognized the scar, it can be assumed that he simply noticed an important detail, where others didn't pay much heed to a little child. That's the only way I see the plot holes w/ Grimmjow and at the very least Dordonni not acknowledging her at all. Simply she has yet to pull a "Yoriuchi" and morph back into her real form.

My money's on #5 or #10. Voted #5 though, since Noi seems to notice her and acknowledge her, though seemingly mocking her at the same time.

I voted for 5 since Nnoitra seemed to be mocking her as if he took her place. He may have even caused the scar, but that is just a guess. ^^

I think Nell has another form but I think it won't be another "hot babe" transformation. I think it's more likely that she's got a full release form that it probably quite monstrous.

My brother brought up an interesing point. What if Nell wasn't kicked out of the Espada, and she just left on her own accord? Maybe her power are connected to Las Noches, therfore the longer she stays there the more of her power returns.

I'm gonna join the #1 team as well, or at least the "original/prototype espada" team. I think it's certainly possible that Nnoitora was able to recognize something others were not. Grimmjow was focused on Ichigo, and Ulquiorra was focused on getting Orohime back, and would have seen her as just more "trash" anyway! Nnoitora may have noticed some sort of seal or scar or mask pattern that revealed Nell to be an Arrancar, or may have seen Nell at another time.

I also like the idea of her leaving because Aizen was a meanie-head or something, but that could be the sillier part of me talking. >_>

Well, Ulquiorra IS number 4....he could have that whole "trash" attitude about someone weaker than him or whatnot. But meh. Based on the new spoiler translations, and how Nnoitara actually fought Nell and cracked her mask...yeah, I'd say Nell was 5th too.

Well it's kind of hinted that she may be #5 (nnoitora fought her for that spot..?) but i have a feeling that she may have been like a natural arrancar, like the three digit ones that were replaced by aizen's artificial arrancar.
