Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII battle system details

News via Wiki (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crisis_Core:_Final_Fantasy_VII)

Heres some details on the battle system as so many users are interested on how the gameplay details and which battle system is current in this installment of final fantasy.

Battle system

Crisis Core has action- and menu-based elements. The new battle system is known as Digital Mind Wave, or "DMW", and revolves around a series of reels at the upper left corner of the screen which spin continuously as long as there is SP left to consume. Each rotate independently and upon lining up the three reels of the same character and value, a power-up or a "Power Surge!" will be rewarded to Zack.

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/2/2b/Crisiscore-battlepowersurge.JPG

The player will have full control over Zack when moving around, and can rotate the camera with the left and right triggers. Every now and then, a random encounter battle will occur. The battle takes place on the same screen as regular movement, with no transition or loading.

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/b/bc/Crisis-corebattle.JPG

Battles consist of multiple enemies on screen at once. To attack enemies, the command bar must be set to attack. Spells like Fire, Blizzard, Cure, and their higher level counterparts are also located on the command bar and used in the same fashion as previous titles in the series, although they deplete magic points with each use. Materia will also be present in the game, fully customizable and with a variety materia commands such as "Steal" and magics. The game automatically targets the closest enemy, and changes the target automatically as you move around. A quick roll maneuver and triangle to block incoming attacks can also be performed.

Final Fantasy Crisis Core interview

The newest issue of Dengeki PS2 has released brand new Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core screenshots, including images of Cloud Strife visiting Icicle Inn (a location made famous in the original Final Fantasy VII).

But the fans' focus wasn't on these new screenshots...
An interesting interview with Square Enix staff members, Nomura and Tabata, revealed many new secrets about the soon-to-be-released game. With such an emotionally charged theme, they expect Final Fantasy fans to be in tears at the completion of Crisis Core...

From the interview:

The Potion Concept is "Sephiroth Flavor"
Supposedly it’s more delicious than the last one.
"We ordered a fresh citrus flavor. Soon after we announced a second edition we wanted a completely different flavor, and I was really surprised by the result." (Nomura)

"The greatest secret of the DMW will be revealed in the last battle"
(Nomura)
"We'll know the true meaning of the DMW's existence".

"We feel that the DMW as a system that is connected to deep emotions has an element of sadness to it.
Regarding the beta testers, we were were told that they: "Cried during the test play." (Tabata)

"However, the ending isn't necessarily gloomy.
There is significance in Zack's life and existence, in the end you feel that there is a hope that is passed on into the time of FF7"

I feel that CC was loaded with the message of "Make a remake, Nomura-san and Kitase-san." (Tabata)

"The Ending is absolutely worth seeing".News via DCEmu (http://www.dcemu.co.uk/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=72360)

Its not like i was triple posting random comments. I was posting new news relevant to the topic. This thread is to keep up to date with the latest Crisis Core news and thats exactly what I'm doing. Bringing new information the moment it arrives. You make it out as if I'm spamming or something. :headscratch

It doesn't matter if you want to keep that thread up to date. If you're the only one who's posting here, means there's nobody who's interested in the news anyway. And YES i believe it's spamming what you are doing. If you want to complain, do it via PM or you'll have to face the consequences.

This game does look like it's going to pretty good. After seeing those trailers it does look impressive. Hopefully it is actually good though.

It got a 9/9/8/9 (= 35/40) rating from Famitsu. This is pretty good, although I was expecting a bit more for a big title like this.

I want to play this game.
I can't play this game.
I started crying at the trailer and that's not like...even the actual game yet. This game will send me into therapy. I can't deal with it ;_; Zack, Sephiroth, Aeris... ;_;

Currently playing this game now and OMG! It's amazing! The new characters are not too cheesy but I have some issues with their evolving powers.

Spoiler rant/rave

Like for example the new characters Genesis and Angel both have one wing and are able to fly! It keeps bugging me!

The summoms are awesome but you have to go through all these mini missions to find them. I currently only have Ifrit and working on the rest. The language barrier doesn't help as there are a lot of complicated Kanji in this game.

The AMV's are great, Sephiroth is kickass and scary as you'd expect although you don't get to see him enough. It's the best graphics I have seen for a PSP game.

Zacks is great and you get to see his first date with Aeris, not going to fangirl too much but they're really sweet together. I mean he even bought her that pink ribbon that she wears all the time. *tears up*

Game play is really good, it doesn't take long to get use to the new controls. I like the slot idea but I wish there was more contol for the summoms they just seem to be random. There's also an interesting materia option to combine materia and make new versions, sometimes it just gives you a stronger version but for example I crossed a Blizard and Poison and got dark blizarda, which poisons and causes ice damage. I can see there being lots of opportunities for making strong materia!

I've only played it for 12 hours and finally got to the part where he's got the buster sword. I wish in some way there was to have a party instead of one person but it's nice having to just concentrate on one dude.

Ah you won't regret it Danna! It's awesome! I've been using up all my free time playing it. Though now the poor PSP is on the charger. (really tempted to pick it up and play)

Sony's PSP-2000 has already sold out in Japan a week before its official release, thanks to the addition of a new bundle to coincide with the release of Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core.

Square Enix recently announced a deal with Sony to release a limited edition Final Fantasy Crisis Core PSP-2000. By limited, we mean it, as only 77,777 units are being produced. However, the bundle is available a full week before the official nation wide release of the new PSP design.

The Crisis Core bundles come with a slick looking white PSP slim with Tetsuya Nomura artwork adorning it and a Buster Sword strap. The retail version of the game is, of course, included, and a Crisis Core themed earphone set has also been tossed in for good measure to those who pre-ordered their system.

Within hours, most stores had completely sold out of this bundle, which is somewhat surprising, as the 77,777 units almost triples the weekly sales numbers that the PSP normally holds. This is no doubt due to Final Fantasy's immense popularity for being one of the premiere RPG's series around. It will be interesting to see how these numbers will affect weekly and monthly sales for Sony.

Quite impressive, they should've made it 777,777 though :3.

A small update, Crisis Core sold 487,000 copies in its first week, I'm not sure if that includes the bundles but it sure is an impressive number.

My friends had been queueing for it since 10 pm until the shop opened in the morning and they still got the queueing number around 20+ But, it's still ok cos this shop had 50 pieces for sale on that day. I was lucky that the shop near my house had one and my friend was fast enough to get it for me while I was away.

I just beat this game today and god~~ It's so heartbreaking when I watched the ending. I did cry actually T______T

Everything was beautiful and touching, especially when Zack told Cloud that "Cloud, you are the proof that I was once alive. Live for me, my pride, my dream and everything. And if you meet Aeris, please take care of her" Zack and Aeris thingy was pretty sad too, he thought of her until his last breath. It's so sad to actually see lots of good ppl in this game died or their life was completely changed.

Zack, you are now my number one hero :cry

Yeah, I dare say that this's the best game I've been playing so far since FFVII (or I'm just totally biased cos FFVII is my most fav game and Zack is one of my fav characters xD) But DC didn't impress me as much as this game did. The ending movie, background musics and dialogues are really great and perfect just I expected. You know after I finished watching the ending, I just felt blank for the rest of the night even though I'd known before that it'd end like this.

I swear to God I replied to your post yesterday Danna lol..

yeah, I live in Japan. I think I finished it late, though cos most of my friends beated this game in two days after it was released.

Byakuya
09-23-2007, 11:17 AM
Wow, how many hours of gameplay?

Danna
09-23-2007, 11:35 AM
Mine is around 18 hours cos I lost in the dungeon for ages before the final battle.

Byakuya
09-23-2007, 11:41 AM
Oh cool. How does the game compare to other FF games?

Danna
09-23-2007, 12:29 PM
Sorry, I never manage to beat other FF games other than FFVII :D

CC is just too short and too easy to finish if you don't care much about those extra missions and the secret boss, but it'd be quite hard and take some times to complete it 100% When one of chapters finished, I felt like 'what? I haven't done anything yet' lol~

I love Sephiroth in this game also. He is kind more than I ever imagined and loves his friends. *try not to spoil* xD

Byakuya
09-23-2007, 12:38 PM
Oh lol, too short? That's sad. >_>

But the storyline was good right? :)

Danna
09-23-2007, 01:19 PM
Yeah, everything is awesome. I give this game 9/10 deducted one point for being too short xD The incident in Nibelheim was changed slightly (again) from the original and LO, but I don't mind it at all. I love flashbacks that randomly appears when you get to use DWM (the slot thingy) Even though it's really nothing important, it shows backgrounds and relationship Zack had with those characters.

Byakuya
09-23-2007, 02:43 PM
Cool. I've always wanted more background story on the various characters of the FF7 universe. :wtf

Hmm, what exactly did they change? XD

I hope you will forgive me for asking so may questions lol. :love

Danna
09-23-2007, 03:25 PM
Haha~ I don't mind it, Byakuya xD Those backgrounds are really nothing though, just short incident ones like Zack tried asking Shizune out for a dinner, but got rejected because she'd work to do. I think this game is like the memento of Zack. Square Enix did great job in getting his feelings/thoughts across to the players through these motion pictures and dialogues.

and if I tell you what exactly they changed, wouldn't it be boring when you play the game? :D

By the way, have you already downloaded the FMVs from this game?

Byakuya
09-23-2007, 03:27 PM
Well I guess I shouldn't allow myself to be spoiled *too* much. XD

Nope I haven't, for the same reason stated above. I've only seen the intro and opening like most people.

I'm 18 hours in and still playing. I've got stuck a little but ended up going through the side missions. Got Odin, Ifrit and Bauhmaut summons, also managed to get extra Moggle and Tonberry ones.

Here's a video of the main ones.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y5zOz5-xP4c (crisis summons)

(They've added fan music to it unfortunately.)

Neo Bauhmaut is just incredible, I mean he destroys a whole moon on to of you while fighting him. *continues with the side missions to get them all*

Byakuya
09-24-2007, 03:12 PM
Lol I think I'll rather just get the game and be surprised by these really awesome FMV's while playing it. :wtf

I wasnt talkin about graphics, but about how interesting it is. Advent Children's story was pretty much bland, but that vid alone shows how much deep and interesting the story of Crisis Core is compared to Advent Children.

10-10-2007, 02:25 AM
Good luck Byakuya!

I finally finished the game, got over the language barrier and cried my eyes out. Really sad, but I did think the final boss was too easy. As usual with Final Fantasy the side missons are a lot harder. I'm replaying it again with all my previous final stat points and hopefully I'll get closer to getting all the materia/summons etc. I was only 45% complete on the missions and I left out a few puzzles I couldn't solve.

Though it has made me want to blow dust off my old FF7 game and give it another 60 hours of my life. Darn you Square Soft! *shakes fist* (now Square Enix)

Ive played it for about an hour or so. I was instantly sucked in TBH and the only reason I stopped playing was due to the fact I was heading to a party that night...else I could have sat in all night playing it hehe.

I really like the way combat is done, and ofc the AMV's are as nice as ever. But then I am really biased, just a total Final Fantasy fanboy. I have bought a PS3 just now whilst I had the money, just for when FF13 is due to be released some point in the future :P

I just fought Bahamut and just entered the next part of the story. Looks like a bunch of new missions are going to be available... so yea. I'm going to be there for a bit. :D I'm a mission nut.
