The season is about the kick off so I figured one of these threads would be necessary. Feel free to discuss matchups, make Superbowl predictions, and if we're lucky, we can even set up a betting pool. :p

My fav team is the seahawks and then the redskins. My superbowl prediction is that they shall play each other:rotflmao:rofl

NY Giants fan (and sort of Jets fan) here to represent! I'm hoping for the Giants to go to the Superbowl, but our quarterback Eli Manning isn't exactly Peyton Manning so well the odds are against them. XD

Rain

We should set up a betting pool on who will win.

The winner should get repped but there's no rep game allowed (we just won't tell anyone:lmao)

hahahaha

:D

Really? A Seahawks fan in D.C.? That's awesome. ^.^ It's going to be tough for me...I'm a Seahawks fan as well, but I'm going to be going to school in Chicago in the fall. And considering what happened in the post season last year...that's going to be iffy. XD

Rain
08-27-2007, 11:49 PM
:eek:you're in Seattle (i'm that slow)

Yeah, there aren't many Seahawks fans around DC. it's all redskins or Cowboys. i'm sure you can make living in Chicago, but being a seahawks fan work:hug

@nocturne: Nocturne!! heeeeeeey!!! haha remember the Giants/Colts game last year? That was a pretty good game. Eli isn't Peyton, but he's still not bad at all. Pity Tiki Barber retired though. :(

@rain: hahaha yeaaah. XD mer. I just bought a jersey too. Set me back a hundred hard-saved dollars. >.<

I used to watch NFL, but lost interest. Dont know why :/

I guess its because my team lost both Randy Moss and Daunte Culpepper. The only players I liked on the team. D:

@Ichigo: haha yeah. Eh, Big Ben played pretty well against the Eagles yesterday, so I wouldn't be too worried. :p

@near: I know this hurts, and I'm sorry, but how'd you guys react after romo lost you the post season, just out of curiosity?

@lady: HELL yeah. ^.^

There's alot of seahawks fans here. XD

Pittsburgh Steelers are gonna to take the championship(again:D)

Rain
08-28-2007, 11:47 AM
Seahawks:yell

On their first drive in their first pre-season game, Hasselbeck got them a touchdown (with ease). As long as Hasselbeck and Alexander stay healthy for the whole season, there isn't a team in the league that can beat them (you know it's true)

It'll be interesting to see how we do with Darrell Jackson. God I loved him. Deion Branch better step up this season.

Rain

There should be one week of pre-season and then the week off right?

@nocturne: Nocturne!! heeeeeeey!!! haha remember the Giants/Colts game last year? That was a pretty good game. Eli isn't Peyton, but he's still not bad at all. Pity Tiki Barber retired though.
Yeah sad about Tiki retiring, but I sort of knew he was starting to make broadcasting his future when I saw him hosting the morning show over at Fox News. I was like, what the heck is he doing there? This was a year before he even decided to retire. He's doing a great job in the broadcast booth though, quite a personable guy. No John Madden, but who is? XD As for Eli, yeah he did alright against his brother, but poor guy he'll always be under the shadow of his brother. Also he's got the tougher NY fans to please so pressure is on him.

For the Steelers vs Seahawks Superbowl, I rooted for the Steelers. Sorry Seahawks fans, just that I'm a fan of the Bus, so was happy he finally got a ring. *runs and hides* Fed Ex Caveman was my fave commercial for that year.

Last year I rooted for the Colts 'cause I like their coach Tony Dungy, though Lovie Smith is great as well. It was like the battle of the nice coaches. XD I really have a weird way of choosing winning teams if my team isn't in it. I seem to gravitate towards the feel good stories over stats of the game. No fave commercials last year, it was pretty blah I think.

Man that's why this is my fave time of the year, great weather, Football, and Thanksgiving! And I love gathering with friends and family to celebrate Superbowl. Seriously, it should be a National Holiday with Mondays off for all to rest. XDDDD

Yuck. Steelers shouldn't have gotten that one two years ago anyways. >.<

I agree. Even Roethlisberger admitted on Letterman that he didn't think he crossed the goal line for the touchdown. That superbowl was a bunch of BS. I also thought that the superbowl should have been equal distance between the two cities, but whatever

aznxenocide
08-28-2007, 09:41 PM
Yeah, I'll admit, I was glad about Jerome Bettis too. Wasn't a big fan of the referees that year though. I forgot the specifics but I remember they cost us the Superbowl. XD

I'd root for the Colts over the Bears any day. Hell, I'd root for most teams over the Bears any day. haha awesome how you remember the commercials from the Superbowl. Wasn't the Seahawks/Steelers Superbowl the year the godaddy.com commercials debuted? XD

Feel good stories? hahah yeah, I totally know what you mean, and I can totally empathize. Which means I'm also a big fan of the Saints. And it's easy to not look like a sentimental fool while talking about the Saints because of Reggie Bush and Drew Brees. :p

@ladyhime: I hope you don't mind the abbreviation. XD wait, seriously? He admitted that on Letterman? Daaamnnn. massive wtf. I remember that touchdown...like, he "crossed" the line, went to the bottom of the pile, extended his hand and tried to put the ball in the end zone, and I remember Madden being like, "Yeah, that doesn't really count now, since he's already down." :D

Lady Orihime

Roethlisberger admits: 'I don't think I got in'
http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/5313884 (link isn't there anymore, but it once was)

Before David Letterman got to shave Ben Roethlisberger's beard Monday night, he got the Steelers' Super Bowl-winning quarterback to admit a little something that might rankle Seahawks fans even more.

Roethlisberger told Letterman that he didn't think he scored on a controversial play in the second quarter that put the Steelers ahead for good 7-3. Roethlisberger dove toward the end zone but didn't appear to get the ball to touch the goal line. But officials on the field signaled touchdown.
"I told Coach, 'I don't think I got in,'" Roethlisberger told Letterman. "But we were getting ready to go for it on fourth down anyway, and I would have run it again. So we would have found a way to get in."

The play infuriated Seahawks coach Mike Holmgren and has provided Seattle fans plenty of fodder for their fury over the game's questionable calls.

Referee Bill Leavy upheld the call after a replay review, and Holmgren then upbraided Leavy on his way off the field at halftime.

Holmgren walked over to Leavy, a fifth-year referee calling his first Super Bowl, and could be seen angrily telling him, "It wasn't even close."

Host David Letterman (left) shaves Steelers' QB Ben Roethlisberger on the set of The Late Show with David Letterman. (AP Photo/CBS, J.P. Filo / Associated Press)

Later on his Late Show appearance, the Pittsburgh quarterback got a shave from Letterman, finally ridding himself of the scraggly light brown facial hair he's been growing since the Steelers lost to Cincinnati in October.

"I was so mad that we lost the game," Roethlisberger told Letterman. "I kind of went into a depression and didn't shave and we ended up winning the next game. And I am kind of superstitious — just a little bit to people who know me — but we won that game and I said I am just going to keep it going until we lose and we kept it going.

"I don't really like the beard you know. But we were winning so I had to keep it going."

Letterman's deadpan reply, "Really? Honestly, I think it looks like a million bucks."

Roethlisberger became the youngest quarterback to win a Super Bowl, when the Steelers defeated the Seattle Seahawks 21-10 on Sunday night. He passed for 123 yards and ran for a touchdown.

"The worst part about winning the AFC championship game was that I had to keep (the beard) for two more weeks," he said. "I didn't want to do that."

After the interview, Letterman asked a woman from Pittsburgh who was in the audience to help him shave Roethlisberger.

"You want to take a little off?" Letterman asked the Steelers' fans.

Yey, my Giants lost to the Patriots yesterday, woo! I know it's just pre-season so it's not really a good measure of how they'll do in the regular season. As long as they win against the Cowboys once the season starts I'll be happy. LOL there was a scene with Eli Manning and Tim Hasselbeck side by side and I couldn't help but think the Giants are the poor man's version of the Colts and the Seahawks put together. XD

Oh and I remember that touchdown that wasn't, but I ignored it for Bettis' sake 'cause yeah that was a bad call.

Rain
08-31-2007, 04:39 PM
Nocturne- pre-season is almost worthless to determine how the season will go (this is my poor attempt at making you feel better)

The giants are a poor man's version of the colts and seahawks:lmao:lmao

Nocturne
08-31-2007, 05:23 PM
LOL, thanks Rain! :hug I usually forget the pre-season exists when it comes to the Giants 'cause most of the time they suck (but I still love them).

And woo, Faith Hill sings the Sunday Night Football theme song. Good thing I usually don't tune in until the actual start of the game. The only Football theme song I like is the one for Monday Night Football, sung by Hank Williams, Jr. How can you not enjoy a song that starts with "Are you ready for some Football!!!!" :D

Rain
08-31-2007, 05:26 PM
It could be worse- one of my fav teams, the redskins- usually do really well in pre-season but then suck in the reg. season.

Now I have that song stuck in my head:D

aznxenocide
08-31-2007, 05:57 PM
Poor man's version? haha awww. Giants aren't THAT bad...they're still a contender. XD

Hey, question. Is Vince Young starting this year? Cuz he's hella gracing the cover of Madden 08 and I figured it'd be a shame if he weren't starting this season. XD

Rain
08-31-2007, 05:59 PM
It looks like he's starting, could the madden curse be broken?

Why did it have to hit Alexander last year:(

aznxenocide
08-31-2007, 06:30 PM
Whatever. Even with Hasselbeck and Alexander out for a huge portion of the season, Seahawks still made it to the playoffs.

Except even when Hasselbeck and Alexander came back, the Seahawks still weren't Superbowl caliber. Soooo we'll see. :p

Football season has officially started! *does touchdown dance* Kicked off by Indianapolis Colts vs New Orleans Saints! 3rd Quarter now with Colts leading the Saints 24 -10. Double take moment for me, Madden talking about Bush and then commenting on how Peyton has so many options with him on the team and I'm like wait...then I remembered Saints' coach's name is Sean Payton. For a while there I was like, what's Peyton Manning got to do with Reggie Bush. XD That said, nice end to the Manning/Bush pranks commercial too before the start of the game, with both Bush and Manning talking about how they would never play pranks on each other and then Manning plays a prank by calling the Secret Service to protect the "President". XD Yey, Football is back, all is right in the world!

aznxenocide
09-07-2007, 03:08 AM
What an awesome kick off game. I mean...seriously...couldn't be a better match up. Hella Superbowl preview? :p

Of course, I'm hoping the New Orleans offence is gonna be able to come back...XD

Nocturne
09-07-2007, 03:27 AM
LOL, well, during the first quarter, I thought the Saints would have a chance because they had three 3rd down conversions in a row, though they couldn't score even a field goal in that run. I was even commenting during that time that the Colt's defense seem a bit porous. Spoke too soon! Anyway, 3 minutes to go and the Saints need 3 TD's and a field goal to tie. It can be done, 3 minutes is a lot of time. :D

Edited: Make that 4 TD's and a field goal to tie with 55 seconds to go. XD

aznxenocide
09-07-2007, 03:30 AM
Yeah, if Manning throws a couple interceptions, or he loses a fumble like that one that Drew Brees got owned by...XD

OHMYEFFINGGOD

Okay never mind. Brees just threw the interception that was returned 82 yards for the touchdown. There will be no comeback for the Saints. XD

Nocturne
09-07-2007, 03:35 AM
LOL yeah, Drew Brees didn't have a good game. To think I my initial prediction for this game was Colts winning 21-14. Final is 41-10 Colts over the Saints! Good game, a bit one sided on the second half though. Poor Saints, their offense was shut down after looking promising during the first half. As some of us say in tagalog, "na pako sa 10" or they got nailed (stuck) at 10.

yanniv
09-07-2007, 04:11 AM
I was definitely going for the Saints in this one. I dislike the Colts and don't want to see them fail this season.

But damn, NFC is still sucking. It seems the NFC is like five years behind the AFC in terms of overall skill.

Rain
09-07-2007, 11:25 AM
Colts won huh, I didn't really care about that game:eek: It would've been nice to see a closer game though

Nocturne
09-07-2007, 02:57 PM
I agree, I would have liked a closer game as well. It was building up to that when the teams went into half-time with the score at 10-10, but then the Colts took over during the 3rd quarter. As xeno said, at the beginning it looked like a Superbowl match-up. In the end, the Colts proved why they're the champs while the Saints have to go back to the drawing board.

Ah anyway, looking forward to Giants vs Cowboys this Sunday. That match-up never gets old. Never liked them Cowboys. XD

Rain

Seattle plays Tampa Bay Sunday at 4:15

It might've just been the Colts...but I mean, holy crap...coming off a Superbowl and then dominating the number one offense in the league last season....XD

I'm looking forward to the Bears vs. Chargers game. THAT'S a playoff preview. Hopefully. :p

Watching Eagles vs. Packers, McNabb getting owned. But what I WISH I were watching is how the Vikings were able to pwn Atlanta 24-3. WIthout Vick, the falcons are NOTHING. XD Surprised the Cardinals are owning St. Louis so badly too. huh.

Rain
09-09-2007, 08:34 PM
Redskins won:D it was a pretty good game, at least towards the end.

Nocturne
09-10-2007, 04:12 AM
'Caught the tail end of the Redskins and thought it would have been awesome had the batted ball that was caught by...I think Randle El turned into a TD at the end of regulation (he should have ran left!). But least they won the game.

Yeah, I'm down with a cold so I spent the day vegging and watching Football (and other sports). The bad, Jets lost to the Pats 38-14 and the Giants lost 45-35 to the Cowboys. The sad, NFL record for 108 yard kickoff return by Hobbs of the Patriots on Jet's turf, that and injuries to Jacobs, Umenyiora and possibly Manning of the Giants. The surprise, Giants getting a TD on their first possession. The stupid, not getting the extra point. Funny stuff, Brady in an interview hearing someone say "Brady Sucks" and he repeats that and "that's Meadowlands for you." Yeah, proud of our fans representing. XD The good, the Mets and Tiger Woods won. XDD Yeah, I tend to change channels when my teams are losing so I changed channels a lot.

Overall nice kick-off to the football season even if my teams lost. 15 games to go, they still have a chance. :D

New Yorker? Eh, it's technically part of New England isn't it? :D

Seahawks defense pwned. And lol @ Jeremy Steven's almost-fumble...his first game back on Seattle territory. Oh god, I wish I were in the stands. He was booed so loudly. :p Still, surprised Jeff Garcia was only able to do most of his stuff in the 1st quarter, considering what he'd done for the Eagles. >.<

Speaking of the Eagles...sorry about that. XD

Bears lost to the Chargers though. Frickin 4 TURNOVERS. JEEEEEZ. XD

Two things to share:

The good news for Kevin Everett, he may walk again! Freak injuries in Football get to me so I was praying he would pull through! Glad he's going to be alright.

And now for something totally hysterical!

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3014677

Spying? There's no spying in Football! XDDD Oh, no wonder the Jets D was picked apart so easily. Here I thought the Jets just sucked. :D

Rain

Eli's got a bruised right shoulder. I know he didn't practice today. He'll live but his status for Sunday is still unsure. Didn't know the back-up QB was an LB? I have to see his size. Least we know if he needs to he can stiff arm someone properly or tackle if he needs to. XD I'm looking forward to Sunday's game more for the fact that they're playing the Packers with Favre still at the helm. Here's a blast from the past:

HaHa, Giants lost to the Packers 35-13. Nice time for Brett Favre to get back to form. XD Maybe the Giants should complain of spying 'cause their D was picked apart like the Packers offensive coordinator was looking over the Giant's defensive coordinator's shoulder and taking lots of notes. XDDD

Congrats to your Redskins, Rain! I was rooting for them all the way 'cause I'm not liking any Philadelphia team right now as the Phillies are giving my Mets a scare and giving me heartburn. :/

On spygate, it's funny how people like Bettis and Collingsworth over at NBC pre-game were talking about how Belichick should have at least been suspended one game. Like a lot of sports, spying on the other team is nothing new, but getting caught and having actual vid evidence is what made this different.

Yey, finally Giants and Jets BOTH win, 3 weeks in! About time, I was about to write them off as all the sports pages in NY media have been doing or at least thinking of doing had these teams gone in 0-3 for the season. But 1-2 has revived them. Sorry your Redskins had to lose to the Giants, Rain, but like you said, Giants had to at least win one. But dude, the Redskins could have tied the game, they had 4 downs at the 1 yard line, and even had 30 seconds left on their final play, but they opted to run instead of pass. Ah well, it's good for the Giants they couldn't convert for a TD. BTW, what's with the Redkins new day-glo yellow uniforms? And what's with the R and feather on their helmets? I miss the Redskins old uniform and logo.

Rain
09-24-2007, 11:33 AM
That game was crazy. it was all redskins in the first half, but in the second half, the giants got serious and showed us why they usually crush the skins:D I though the skins would tie the game but they rushed their 4th down play with 30 seconds on the clock:headscratch

Nocturne- it was a throwback uniform (the eagles did it too), I think its in honor of the teams 75-year aniversary or something. The announcer was talking about it and i wasn't paying attention.

Nocturne
09-30-2007, 04:44 PM
Rain, thank goodness that was only a throwback uniform 'cause man that was ugly. Here's to seeing them in their old uniforms this week. Anyway, is it me or are you guys letting a girl post more in this football thread than you guys are? XD

Week 4 people, might as well post the NFL's main link here so easy access for people looking for scores or something.

Dude, if you want to talk about crazy games...Lions and Bears. Bears was sort of dominating the first three quarters...and then the Lions just came back and KICKED ASS. Like, holy crap.

Patriots vs. Bengals was INSANE. I expected ALOT more from two of the top offenses in the league. But holy damn Carson Palmers was TOTALLY shut down. And Randy Moss is a pimp.

Seattle's 3-1. Hell yeah. ^.^

Next week, Super Bowl rematch, Seattle vs. Steelers, baby. Time to show why we should've won that one.

LOL, xeno, to hear Favre say it, Green Bay let them win. XD

Hell, did you all watch the end of the Cowboys/Buffalo game? Crazy! I'm annoyed Cowboys won, but it was exciting especially at the end! Calling a timeout just before the snap with 1 second to go? And then to have Folk kick a 53 yard field goal twice AND get them in both times? Buffalo thought they could rattle him, but he was like clockwork, same kick and all. Crazy game. Romo may have sucked at the first half, or rather first quarter, but his last pass to get the ball in position for the field goal redeemed him just a tad. He owes Folk a big ass dinner for bailing his ass. XD

I was looking forward to watching the Redskins vs Patriots game yesterday after the Giants game, but our Fox affiliate didn't cover it. *grumble* Showed Bourne Supremacy instead. I'd rather see Brady's Pats Supremacy even though I was rooting for the Redskins.

Giants vs Dolphins game was just butt ugly. Only two TD's between both teams. It would have been exciting had there been more TD's instead of field goals. Not really the most stellar example of football to show off to the Brits, that's for sure.

Rain
10-29-2007, 08:53 PM

Cowboys or Packers may win th NFC championship. I'd go for the Cowboys. I don't think Tampa can go any furthur this season since Williams is out for the rest of the season...although had a really good ground game last week against Atlanta...but...bah, lol

Rain, what you think about Washington and the Bucs tommorrow? lol.

Patriots are 11-0 and the Giants game was just awful. The receivers need Velcro or something 'cause the time I was able to stand watching the game, they kept dropping passes. But they can't take all the blame, Manning wasn't exactly Mr. Accuracy himself. XD

Couldn't believe I thought the Giants wouldn't win. I switched channels 'cause I didn't think they'd come back. I've become used to them melting down this time of year.

lol@Jets.

I felt bad for the 'Skins too. If I were Campbell, I would've thrown a couple interceptions, just out of sympathy.

:(

In other news, Lofa Tatupu raped A.J. Feely. Hardcore. As did Sean Payton for the Saints. I mean...god damn. All he had to do was run down the goddamn clock, instead of having Reggie Bush fumble the ball. At least the Bucs were able to take advantage of that fumble.

Worst case scenario, Seattle loses to the Cards AND the Panthers. I think a win over the Ravens and Falcons is within Seattle's grasp, neh? And Seattle SHOULD be able to beat the Card's with our semi-revived running and bitching passing game. So we SHOULD be sitting on a nice 11-5 at the end. Nice to see the Bucs doing similarly well, Pinoy. We'll see you in the play offs. :p

I can't believe that there are more than two Seahawks fans in this thread... that's highly unusual O.o

Anyways, go Seahawks!

Is anyone else starting to hate Boston in general

Yes.

first they have the Red Soxs who have become exactly like the Yankees except good, then they get the trio for the Celtics and now look unstoppable in the East, the Patriots are on a mission for world domination, and lastly even their soccer team went to the finals in the MLS Playoffs, Hey at least the Bruins still suck, at least I think they do?

I have an irrational dislike of East Coast teams in general, but maybe in this case it isn't so irrational. As for the Celtics, I thought that Ainge was just being Ainge again, and everyone "knew" that their lack of depth was going to kill them. The jury's still out on that prediction and they have yet to play the truly elite teams, but if they hold up throughout the season, it looks like they really do have a chance to win it all this year.

And once again a college coach fails at the NFL level, (Butch Davis, Steve Spurrior, Mike Riley, Rich Brooks, and now Bobby Petrino). Personally I don't know why you would move from college to the pros. In college you have kids who just want to play the game, in the pros they are playing for a playcheck. You have more control over your program, if you are coaching at a big school, you are already being paid millions. Seems like a pretty nice job if you ask me.

Yeah, but remember how epically Greg Camarillo pwned the Baltimore safeties? And the expressions of joy on the Dolphin's players' faces...I wouldn't wish a 0-16 season on anybody. The shame and embarassment from that...I mean, goddamn.

Redskins are finished. They got shut out for like 3 quarters. I thought they would make a comeback in the 4th but that thought quickly died.

I'm hoping the Steelers lose.

"His hair was out of bounds!"
Major lol! Almost as funny as "He was giving him the business"

I'm gonna pull for Tampa in this game. I also want Chargers to win.

the redskins seahwask game was so tough for me, my two favorite teams is a wildcard game:(

I thought the redskins would win, and if suisham hadn't missed that 30-yard field goal they would have. that changed the whole tempo of the game.

at least I can still root for the seahawks
