Ai Yazawa is a popular girls' manga author in Japan. Throughout 20 (!) years of publishing, she wrote over 10 series.
Her works are most popular among women and young girls. The storylines generally are centered on young women and their relationships, something with which that fanbase identifies with. The characters are always very stylish, and she is known especially for her hip sense of fashion.

I love the hell out of Ai Yazawa. Seriously. I always list her as one of my influences of my writing. Paradise Kiss and NANA are both excellent series. Hell, if it weren't for her, I probably would have never gotten into shoujo at all.

I actually sort of like Ren/Reira as well. Ren/Reira/Shin would be the absolute best for me, concerning Reira, but I like any variation of the threesome. :D

My OTP though in NANA is Takumi/Hachi. I typically don't like canon, but this is an exception. <3

Otherwise, I also like Yasu/Nana O.

I was just thinking to myself that it's been a while since the last chapter had been released, so I went to go scan through some LJ communities to see if there was any information on a chapter 70 release. Unfortunately, one post says that chapter 70 will be postponed for two months, because of an "unexpected illness".

Meaning we'll have to wait until the end of OCTOBER. T_T

Just finished reading Paradise Kiss recently and I must say, it lived up to its name!! No I'm seriously considering reading its prequel, Neighborhood stories. Have any of you guys read it? How is it? I wanna know before starting off since I'm not such a big Mikako fan.

Ai Yazawa is my second favorite manga-ka after Hiromu Arakawa (FMA's author). I never thought that I could enjoy drama mangas before I read Nana.

I can't believe this...the only manga-ka I could love as much as I love Ai-sensei is Hiromu Arakawa...it's just that I only know and worship one of her series, so I can't say that I love her as an author...yet. Also, Yazawa's unmatched sense of fashion and the way she organize the panels are also a huge plus from me.

But in general, nothing can top FMA and Yazawa in the manga world for me...except if you count anime/movie (than there'll be Miyazaki on the list too).

But I hope he won't put his hands on Reira – I like it that he can actually respect and love a girl (Reira), but I agree with him that he’s not good enough for her (but…but it seems like..oh well, at least Reira is strong and honest this chapter, she held her own against Takumi). And who's that kid (Reira would have to be really good at hiding her pregnancy if he's hers, since than she should be more pregnant than Hachi by now)? And what did Ren did to Nana this time? Well, I’m not surprised to see Reira doing that. She was in love with Takumi from the very beginning but Takumi kissing Reira? Oh no. No way. I don’t like that.
I still hope that it turn out to be ReiraRen (they are holding hands in the chapter) and it will be what makes Nana leave (I doubt that Takumi’s cheating on Hachi is what made her leave).
Anyway – Reira is my favourite character. I ship ReiraYasu and ReiraRen. In fact everything as far as it’s not ReiraTakumi or ReiraShin. I just hate that two pairings >.>

Yeah...I'm just hoping Ren/Reira doesn't happen either, for Reira's sake. It'll just fuel the flame of Reira basher by saying "see she does have a thing with everyone"...and although Ren is a good friend (and his relationship with Reira is very enduring right now), but he's an asshole as a boyfriend (so although I'm a Nana fan I'm not expecting much from Ren when it comes to her well being).

Hachi will have no trouble finding a decent guy if she doesn't put herself down so much. Nobu...I think he idealized Hachi too much (which I guess I take as a sign of immaturity), and that's why he couldn't have dealt with Hachi's pregnancy better. But at the very least he respected her somewhat.

I'm kind of relief that Hachi/Takumi is done for, now I'm just worrying for Reira. I don't approve of what she did in 71, because no matter what he is married (and it bugs me that she's willing to only be his mistress). But I still hope that nothing too bad happens to her :(

EDIT: and Takumi is definitely more at fault for cheating, because he said his wedding vows, after all, not Reira.

Something I just wanted to say about Hachi in Ch. 72
For the first time ever, I actually admired Hachi in this chapter. I'm not a Hachi fan at all. I never expected her to suspect Takumi at all since she's so wrapped up in her world full of roses, but I applaud her for noticing, without Takumi finding out. Also, towards the end, she actually admits to her 'situational' love for Takumi. She's not that dumb after all. Maybe she does deserve to be with Takumi, this chapter made me change my perspective towards the whole Takumi/Hachi love relationship.

I haven’t finished Faster than a Kiss and it is late. I did find this teaser from BW. It is only in text so no pictures except for the covers. Pic above is from PSS. Cicola from BW says it is better for Takumi x Hachi fans to not read any further. From what I understand from her summary. Basically, Shin got out and they have a party for him. Then, Shin was asked by Hachi to tell Takumi who will in turn tell Reira later on, if he wants to see Reira. Shin doesn’t want to. He says if he grows up and if he still loves her, then he will go to her. Then at the company, it seems that Takumi knew that Ren is taking drugs and he punches the boss. He goes to Reira to tell Shin’s message about waiting for Shin to grow older. Reira replies, ‘I won’t depend on a dream to live, otherwise, I will die of loneliness.’ Takumi replies, ‘I won’t let you die’. He kisses her and they went inside the room. I guess you can guess what happened afterwards. Next issue will be out on April 26th.

Haven't found any English version of ParaKiss, so I've only ever read it via scanlations, but I was actually happy with the ending. I like ParaKiss just fine with its ending but had it been different or happy/sappy true love, I am quite sure I would have hated it (and, god, did the Arashi/Miwako reveal creep me the hell out. Just, ugh!)

The ending worked for me because, while George and Yukari were cute/hot/love and all, their relationship was just really, really bad for them both. It was a relationship that was obviously never gonna work out and it was frustrating to see Yukari try for over four volumes to make it work when it never worked since the beginning. The differences in their personality and philosophy just wasn't something that would make them click, so when Yukari decided (by herself!) that they should end it, I was definitely rooting for her.

That said, I actually did enjoy ParaKiss, if only because they had Isabella, who was beyond awesome. :)

She definitely is. I'm so glad she has cameos on the Nana manga (in the omake sections). She's so beautiful and I'm just too in love with her. She made me like ParaKiss when, had she not been there, it would have just been an Eh-series for me especially since I was plainly horrified at the Miwako/Arashi relationship. I never understood their dynamics until the Big Reveal and when I did, I wished I was kept in the dark. I wish they hadn't gotten married.

Suzu I just love Shin. Don't get me wrong I love Ren, Nobu, Yasu, and Takumi as well but Shin is my baby. I don't hate Reira I just think she was confused. Hell I understand that. She always wondered what it may have been like to have Takumi and when she did she realized that he was not like her fantasy told her. Hell Takumi does not live up to anyone's fantasy because he thinks about himself first and others after. Shin really loved her and Reira him but I don't know if they ever got a chance to be together again due to what I have read in the newer chapters.

Like I say in my last spoiler tag Ren is dead. I had to go back and reread the chapters starting at 65 and I realized that he was due to certain scenes and talks between the characters.

CeriaHalcyon you should start at the first chapter and just read it. You will fall in love all over again plus their are a couple of things in the manga that were not in the anime as well as the newer chapters. I hope they decide to start the anime back up.

I think one of their problems was that he only sees her as a younger sister and not as a potential lover and that was what depressed her, whereas Shin on the other hand sees her as the woman she is and he also shows that to her. About the future i agree with you, i also doubt that they will have a happy ending. didn't he say somewhere that he's with misato???

Suzu you may be right about what Shin said but I can't remember. I think it was brought up when he was talking to Yasu. Na-kun is cute but like I said Shin is my baby boy.

I know how Takumi views Reira (even though it did not stop him from sleeping with her) but Reira has always had to crush on him. She has a fantasy picture of who he is and that is not him at all. Of course she knows how he treats other people but he never treated her like that until recently and now she has seen the light about him, and also the way he handled Ren's drug use opened her eyes as well.. She can't trust him anymore or believe in him. In fact in recent chapters she talks about wanting to destroy everything that Takumi holds dear. She is out to hurt him not and as much as I do like Takumi he does need to be taken down and suffer for what he has done to people.

Of course Takumi is a selfish person, I don’t want to negate that but personally I get the impression that he’s a character who cares about the people he holds dear. He slept with her because he wanted to ease her pain. Of course it’s an extremely doubtful way, but since she wanted it and he wanted to help her he did this. Even though it made things worse. I was also disappointed and surprised abouth how he treated Ren and that he didn't seem to care about his health state, because i always got the impression that they were close friends.

Regarding Reira, Takumi's raction towards Ren's addiction plus her mental state at that moment fueld her anger about Takumi. But I still doubt that she hates him that much that she would go on a revenge campain against him. I mean let's not forget that he was the one who made it possible that she and Shin can have contact (if i remember it correctly), and i doubt that she forgot about that.

If you read the message I left you I think you will see I think it is more to the Reira and Takumi's story and that may also be the reason she is hating him. While I do believe he cares deeply for her he did treat her like business alot. Her voice was what he really needed. Without it Trapnest was nothing in his eyes. He did things he felt he had to so he could protect it, and some of those things ended up backfiring on him and others. Shin ended up lost and went to a place to seek some type of affection but it ended up with in getting into trouble. Reira ended up lost and lonely and more unsure of who she really was. She had not where else to true because she did not have Shin and her trust of Takumi was gone. Ren was screaming for help but again Takumi was not able to give it the way he should have.

Takumi can care about people but his way of caring is on his terms. He has to get what he wants and everyone just has to fall in line. He doesn't think about how his actions will hurt others and if it does he feels he can talk or sex his way out of it. He is a classic abuser to me. I know he had it bad as a child but he is not the only one to have it bad. Don't get me wrong I love Takumi even though I should not. I hate him also. The way he has played people, the way he has treated Hachi I want to kill him sometimes. I feel that in recent chapters him may have finally seen what he has done to himself and the people he claims to love the most. I think that he has a lot of fear inside of him about never being like his father so he goes to extremes to make sure that does not happen. I hope by the end Takumi will have come full circle and change most of his ways. I think if he wants his family back together he has to fight hard for it.

Suzu I finished Paradise Kiss and I fell in love with it. I was hoping that George and Yukrai would have lasted but they didn't .We can talk more about this manga as well if you want. I sent you a reply back. I understanding being tired. I am like that sometimes too.
