Hey gang!
Spacecat, the owner of this board, invited me here to post. My name is Kyle Hebert and I have the honor of voicing Ganju Shiba and Sosuke Aizen on the show. I wanted to thank all of you for watching "Bleach" and making it so popular. Of course, like any dub, this one has its fans and critics, but if you happen to enjoy it, that's awesome. If ya don't , that's ok, too. :)

I'm told there's a good amount of Aussies posting here. Last time I visited your awesome country, it was 2002. I was promoting my roles on "Dragonball Z" (teen Gohan, the Narrator, Pikkon, West Kai). Hope I get to come back sometime next year now that I've got some "Bleach" credits now, as well as Kiba on "Naruto".

With anime dubs, there's really no prep time involved. The director studies the scripts and episodes ahead of time. We go into the studio not knowing anything really. Director catches us up to speed on what's happening, then we record line by line. We preview each line in Japanese first to make sure we get the context of the scene correct.

When we audition, we have no point of reference so each actor conjures up how they think the character would sound and hope it sticks. I know my Ganju is a lot more gruff than the Japanese seiyuu. And Aizen's demeanor suggested to me that I basically use a calmer, deeper version of my own speaking voice.

I do indeed meet many faces at cons and talk to hundreds online so its hard to remember everybody, but its always good to touch base regardless. Ganju is so much fun to play. Just a big, goofy braggart who can actually hold his own.
I heard him referred to as the "Jar Jar Binks of Bleach", but I REALLY don't agree.
I know he's not a popular character, but again, its so much fun to play.

I remember reading some of your posts at Clubbleach so im not as supprised as back then that you joined a bleach forum.

You've done a good job for your roles, it might not be completly like the Japanease version, but that might actually be good in a way... Since more variation makes for a wider audience.

Some of my friends never wanted to give Bleach a look corse it wern't english so now that there is a dub version they might get interestet(hopefully)

Thanks! I remember auditioning for about 8 guys, including obviously Ganju and Aizen. I seem to recall getting cast as Aizen first, then re-auditioned for Ganju and got that as well. I think I'm the only voice actor on the show to have two recurring roles (so far anyway). I REALLY lucked out.

My first anime was Speed Racer and I was probably about 6 years old. Eventually came Star Blazers and Battle of the Planets.

Teen Gohan/Great Saiyaman will always be special to me because it was my first major role on a show. Plus, I was already a huge fan of DBZ since '95 when it first aired in America. I used to go around the house imitating Piccolo, Vegeta, and the Narrator (which I eventually got cast in as well). Such a great feeling to be a fan of a show and getting to work ON it, too!

Naaaah, I'm no celebrity. Just a lucky guy with a really cool job who gets to be on popular shows. I prefer to watch dubs myself for several reasons. I'm too lazy to read subtitles......sometimes they go too fast and I have to rewind, or I'll miss the animation since I'm too busy reading. I actually CAN'T eat and read subtitles at the same time! With dubs, I can enjoy the animation and hear the audio in my native language. Dubs have come a looooooooooong way in the past decade. As an actor, I enjoy listening to my peers' performances.

Glad you enjoy the performances. Luckily, doing different voices comes easily to me. We record one character at a time so I don't have to worry about flipping back and forth (though I could if they wanted me too, heheh).

I know there are a lot of folks who didn't care for the Saiyaman stuff and think the pinnacle of Gohan's coolness was his fight with Cell (which was voiced by Stephanie Nadolny)....but I just love playing the dorky side of him. I appreciate the change in tone of the show and it was refreshing to get a change of pace from the "75 episodes of taunting and fighting when in real time, 5 minutes has past" scenario.

My newer stuff includes Tomitake in "When They Cry", and Omega-Xis in "Megaman Starforce" (starting on Cartoon Network on August 25). As an actor, I want to get ANY part I audition for.

When it comes to conventions, its best to email your local convention and request people you'd like to see as a guest. Thank you very much. "Dragonball Z" is indeed the show that launched my career, and despite being on "Bleach" and "Naruto" now, most fans still acknowledge DBZ. Either they grew up on it, or it was their gateway anime into other shows. They also seem more impressed by me being the Narrator than Gohan. I am eternally grateful to Funimation for letting me be a part of such an awesome show, and by association I've been afforded many more opportunities because of it.

I was initially invited to a small convention on a college campus in Leicester, but they ended up not having the budget to fly me out. DOH! I certainly hope I get to come to UK. The biggest con there I know of for anime is Amecon, which is also in Leicester. It just happened a few weekends ago.

As far as I know, Momo is a nickname used in the Japanese version too. But thanx, glad ya liked the performances. :)

Happy to hear! Yeah, Canada gets the Canadian DBZ dub, but if you get the DVDs, its the Texas Funimation cast (including moi). I wish I could re-record the intro eps for Ganju, I think the voice was fairly different than what I eventually settled into, which is more fun and easy to do.

Really? Saiyaman was NEEDED in the anime to change the tone and bring something fresh, different and funny to the anime. Not every shounen has a main character who becomes a super hero. I was glad Gohan wasn't wearing tights like a normal saiyan hahah.

I will check out the Megaman Starforce when it starts airing, I normally don't watch dubs much anymore but some are actually good.You don't mind if I critique you Kyle, do you? :p Yes haha, I can't wait to see the Aizen voice for eps 60+ , that shall be interesting :D

I know you said that production is around episode 50 or so. Have you watched any (Doesn't even have to be subbed) episodes after that? This question really isn't all that important, you don't have to answer it :), it's more of a lead in for my main question.

What do you think of the Bleach fillers? I'm not to sure if you know of the catastrophe that they are, but it would be interesting to get a kinda group thought from the people who are working on the show, of what they think the show is turning into around episode 65.

Ganju has a lengthy role in the fillers, so I would think you would have some thoughts on them, when the time comes.

Don't get me wrong, I love the Bleach anime and the dub. I'm first in line to hold the banner proclaiming this. But most around here can agree on how the fillers how completely ruined the overall Bleach story impact.

Honestly, at this point I've only watched the first 7 eps and all the scenes that my characters are in. I don't watch any shows in Japanese (sorry, too lazy to read subtitles). Fillers are a drag, and I know fans HAAAAAATE them with a passion. Though having a big role means work for me, and that's a good thing.

Mr. Hebert, I want to personally thank you for the work you've done. I grew up listening to your Gohan and watching every episode of DBZ repeatedly. You, sir, ROCK!!! Okay, fan-praise out of the way, I'm glad to see you're taking an interest in our little forum here and I welcome you. I'll be completely honest and say that my impressions of the Bleach dub have been less than stellar thus far, but then again, I'm just one opinion. I will say though that your Ganju, the English Yumichika, and the English Ikkaku are all very well-done. I haven't heard your Aizen yet because I stopped watching the dub, but I will be sure to check it out now that I know we have you here with us. So, thank you once again for your membership and I hope you enjoy your time with us and your work on Bleach.

Thanks but again, for clarification, the Gohan in the Cell Saga was Stephanie Nadolny. I took over when Gohan was a teenager, in high school (Saiyaman and beyond). :)

Apparently, it's not happening. The dub's going to go on as usual, but Adult Swim won't be airing any Bleach after episode 52, at least not for a long while...


NOOOOOOOOOOOO! Did I miss the incredible voice that is Aizen!!!??? It's just like me to be too slow in getting to all the good stuff. Man, I love Kyle's Aizen-voice. It's so perfect, and a billion times better than the Japanese version. I'm always gushing and squeeing everytime I hear it! Gah! Aizen is the main reason I'm such a Bleach freak because of the whole SS arc plot twist-dealy. Kyle seriously got the best role in all of Bleach, excepting maybe whoever gets to be Grimmjow...:p

I'm only theorizing the reason why Bleach got yanked for now is that perhaps we're not far enough ahead dubwise. I watched the Death Note debut and thought it totally rocked. I know its going to be a huge show, but Bleach is already a huge hit, so it wouldn't make sense for Cartoon Network to just stop airing it for good.

Meanwhile, plug plug, I highly recommend Blade of Fate for DS (you can play it online!) and Shattered Blade for Wii (gives your arm a workout, lemme tell ya!). Also, Bleach boxset comes out October 30 with the first 20 eps and I believe its limited edition.

So, that is why Cartoon Networks stops airing Bleach? I read it somewhere (being French, I don't have access to the English dub) and I was wondering why they did that.
I hope you're doing a better job than the Frenches (it's like woah, how can a dub makes the show suck so much... I wished the VAs would take their job a little bit more seriously and not think that anime=show for kids, who cares about bad dub?). Because I can't stomach the French dub >__>

My question would be: did you try to at least read the manga (or partly, since I understand that you don't like subs) before beginning your job as Ganju and Aizen's VA, or did you jump in without knowing anything from Bleach? :p

Hello! I'm loving your voice in Bleach, Ganju's one of my favourite characters, and you suit Aizen so well. Here in Aus we're way behind in the dub, so I've cheated a bit... And in Naruto, Kiba! Yay! I remember you from Dragonball Z, too. I was a big fan of that when I was younger.

Also, Mokoto Takai in Fruits Basket! I remember you because that's my favourite episode! It was one of the few anime in which I watched the dub first, and I like it a lot more than the Japanese version. XD

Oh yeah, do come back to Aus sometime, it'd be great to meet you! I'm in Adelaide though, and we don't often get VA's here... XD

I don't know if it's been mentioned in some other thread around here, but Bleach is indeed coming back to Adult Swim.

If you check their schedule (http://www.adultswim.com/schedule/index.html), it says that Bleach returns on the Saturday lineup (first slot, WOOO!) on the 5th of January, starting on episode 45. It'll play through until we get to new episodes on the 1st of March.

Also, can't wait to hear how you handle Aizen's other side, Kyle, although I have a pretty good idea what it'll sound like. Hope he sounds super dickish and full of himself X3

Oh, and this is my first time posting in this thread, so I'll say it's good to have you here Kyle! How'd you like doing the scenes where Aizen reveals his true self? Also, how much do you know about what's ahead for your character usually? For example, when you first got the part of Aizen, did you know right from the start that he was actually a villian?

I think I recall him mentioning at some point (I think in another forum, right around when he announced he got Aizen) that he had found out about those spoilers. Same thing with Patrick Seitz and Isshin; everyone seemed surprisingly up-to-date with their characters.
