* Tesla (テスラ, Tesura?)

Tesla is a midsized, male arrancar. He appears to be Nnoitra's Fracción and assists him wherever he goes. Like Nnoitra, he wears an eyepatch, but it is shaped differently and covers his right eye. Tesla also wears a different style jacket from most arrancar in that it resembles more of a lab coat. The remains of his hollow mask appear to be a thin upper jaw which forms a circlet around his forehead.

Tesla wields a zanpakutō shaped like a rapier, though it appears he can alter the shape of the blade as he wishes. This is shown when he blocks an attack from Chad with a flat, round bulge in the center of the blade, which becomes a hollow ring showing his hand behind it with his fingers spread out afterwards. He seems to be rather powerful, as he stopped the attack from Chad's left arm quite easily, although this could also be due to Chad already being weakened by Nnoitra. He later appears to subdue Orihime while Nnoitra faces Ichigo. --- From Wiki

I have always had a soft spot for Tesla ever since he held up Chad's punch. The fact that he looks very human helps too!

I have the sneaking suspicion that Kubo likes Tesla as well. He's been shown as being strong and devoted. His appearances are always cool (except when he ran to Noi :p)

(prediction) Tesla is stronger than Noi, or is at least Espada class strength but just hasn't revealed it yet :D Also the three female fraccion that serve Halibel are his harem ;)

Tesla and Ulquiorra are very similar. Both are strong and efficient. And both are loyal to their superiors. They are also both bishis :D

I personally believe there is nothing wrong with his eye. Tesla is just wearing the eye patch as a mark of hero-worship :D

It's also curious that in the flashback his coat doesnt have those insignia/medal designs on his left chest area, which he has in the present day. Is Tesla into military style dress for show? or could he be a hollow that came from a human with a military background? ...he could be Alexander the Great's hollow :eek:

Gonna put this here now before next week's chapter comes out and invalidates everything:D

We know that fraccion refer to Espada with the honorific of '-sama'. Halibel's fraccion, Szayel's mutant ones, Tesla... (Lillinet, Stark's fraccion is the exception)

Even non-fraccion arrancar refer to Espada with -sama. Note Nell and Dondo Chakka with Grimmjow and Szayel respectively)

Now in the flashback in 294 Tesla refers to Noi by name only. In the present the honorific is attached.

This implies that Tesla felt he and Noi were in some sense of the same level or equal. More like comrades rather than a superior to a subordinate. Noi of course claims otherwise saying just because he was beaten does not mean they are equals. But this is Noi "I am the strongest Espada" (if you ignore the 4 others above me), talking. So i'll take a spoonful of salt with that.

What can be stated as fact is Noi was 8th Espada. Yet Tesla, who in one scanlation I have read refers to Neriel-sama in the flashback, does not use the same honorific with Noi here. In my view this means that Tesla felt he was close enough in rank/strength/power/ability to an eight level espada, to not have to use -sama. It also means that during this time Tesla was not Noi's fraccion.

In effect, Tesla is an espada strength arrancar (he was able to chat with the previous Octavo Espada as a near equal). He could be similar to Wonderwyce who is espada strength but with no number assigned (maybe this was where Luppi came from as well=back up Espada)

Pure speculation= Tesla is equal or stronger than Noi, and will replace him after he is castrated by Neriel. Tesla's earlier concern for Chad's final punch hints that he may know Noi's limits better than he does himself.

I hope so, but I am concerned because of Tesla's comments in this chapter. Kubo is setting him up for one of two things: (1) becoming an Espada, based on the things you mentioned in your post; or (2) getting killed soon, based on the fact that Tesla showed a sense of fairness and compassion for Nel in the flashback, but shows a total coldness to Nel and devotion to Nnoi in the present.

So, is Kubo signaling Tesla's potential to be greater than Nnoi and potentially replace him once Nnoi is dead, OR is he signaling that Tesla once had that potential but has regressed and become hardened from spending too much time as Nnoi's henchman? (the typical Shonen pre-death sympathetic flashback) I really can't tell.

Tesla dying soon is a possibility, but in this instance one i would consider unlikely because of several reasons:

a) His very sense of 'fairplay' if you will. Like you said he showed this in the past but also in the present. He blocked Chad's punch, took down Orihime twice and kicked Ichigo, but that was it. He didn't taunt, malign, fondle, laugh maniacally. He just did what was necessary to get the job done (in this case incapacitate his opponents). Tesla hasn't done anything to merit contempt or hatred, unlike say Noi and Mayuri (who should have died permanently). If Kubo wanted readers to hate Tesla so we would look forward to him being killed off, he could have given Tesla the Noi treatment.

b) Tesla is shown as being Noi's direct opposite in character. He is reasonable, rational, has a certain scruple or two. He also looks more human then the exaggerated Noi. In other words Tesla is closer to Neriel then he is to Noi. Neriel might even be more sympathetic to Tesla.
(Speculation) So if Neriel is a VL then Tesla might be too:D

c) Kubo hasn't drawn a bad panel of Tesla yet. It seems a bit shallow but in manga, visuals are everything. Not only is Tesla good on the eyes on account of his bishiness, he also looks good in action. Stylish even. THAT alone guarantees he won't die so soon.
Look at all the characters that Kubo has permanently removed : Ugly Hollows, Grand Fisher, Jidanbou's Brother, Dordonii, Cirucii...most of them were never drawn sympathetically.
Their development was also never spread out but contained in a few chapters before they were removed. Tesla's story has been slowly progressing over more and more chapters, but not too fast.
Tesla has been depicted up to now as having a sense of decency, reason, efficiency and has drawn our sympathy.

d) He hasn't shown any of his powers yet. One small hint at the beginning don't really count. At the moment any Espada who releases is certain to lose (all except Grimjow are in fact dead).

Anyway I am not too worried about Tesla dying prematurely. He just seems too good/well-rounded of a character for Kubo to just kill off.

I also noticed Tesla was very familiar with Noi in the flash back. Maybe he lost some of his power when he lost his eye? Cause he may have used a lazer eye thing a couple of chapters ago and that could have been a large part of his power. Maybe, like Grimmjow, he lost rank after and maybe, like Grim, Hime might have to heal it back.

And on a comletly shallow note, I love his gloves! They are awsome :love !

Yes, Tesla's release is ugly...but damn, that's one badass efficient release (take note GJ). I mean, he's the fraccion who got to kick the hero's ass after all, mwuahahaha!

But well, Tesla belongs to the bad guys, and the shonen laws say he has to lose to the good guys :(
I still want to believe he'll survive, but I can sadly see him fighting till the bitter end for his master...or Nnoi sacrificing him :cry

I posted this idea in the chapter thread:

What if Tesla is spared by Kenpachi (who spared Ikkaku) and was told to get stronger or somesuch. Tesla, who has followed Nnoi set up as Kenpachi's Hollow counterpoint, is inspired by Kenpachi himself.

Now he may abandon Nnoi and seek his own path. Or choose to follow Zaraki (as to beat/kill him when he gets stronger) although very unlikely and crack-ish. It is no coincidence that Tesla encounters the parallel 'Nnoi' from SS. Comparisons will be made. I hope this prods along Tesla's development as a character.

Like Syn and most people here. I also think Tesla's reluctance is shown in this chapter. And I felt his release stance was damn cool and stylish.

I'm thinking he's dead by the dialogue, but it's hard to tell for sure from the pics, at least for me. Time will tell...:(

Let me clear it up for you.

I see Tesla on the left, then a big space with Kenpachi facing Nnoitra, then Another half of Tesla on the right. So he is in halves, and if you saw where Kenpachi 1st cut him I'd say unless Orihime decides to act on her own and heal more Arrancar, he's a goner, sorry folks.

I however do predict there will be an eventual flashback with him in it. (Probably showing the 1st meeting with Nnoitra, and to how he got that eye wound(you could tell he got it from when he was a hollow/or released)

Truth to say,he wasn't some interesting character for me,when I saw him in the manga,but I took a fancy to him,when he appeared in the anime too.He not only follows Noitora,but likes him too,I'd say he isn't a common arrancar and Fracción.He seems gentleman to me.I don't know who his seiyuu is,but he has a great voice,I like it!;)
