I'm sorry that BA had to start over, we tried everything we could but in the end it seemed best to start over. A lot was said on the Facebook page by Velius apparently from me but it was in fact paraphrased poorly by Vel and wasn't exactly what I wanted him to say. No offence to Vel but this is actually what happened:

Someone logged in to our server with a password and deleted the root user. This person was someone who used to work for us and it saddens me to admit that, I'm not going to name names but it was a low thing and really that person is to blame for all of this. Yes, the password should have been changed but to be honest no one ever imagined this person would do that. They were a friend.

The hosting company wiped the server and we then tried to recover all the files as we didn't have a working back up. The back up we had was corrupted.

After recovering all the data successfully we thought we were back on track. The problem was that the database was corrupted and had been for a long time. The database was massive, while it was on the server it still ran, with bugs, but nothing major. After removing it though, with those missing database tables it would not go back on the server successfully. We tried to repair the tables and got outside help but they were too damaged, we could have reverted to a backup from around the time the forum started but we didn't see a point, especially with the change in ownership etc. A fresh start seemed like the best option.

I personally am very sorry to anyone who lost anything, there is a working capture of most of the forum if you feel like getting old posts or recovering anything. Unfortunately we have no way of importing that site in to this one:

I'd like to thank Unicorn for taking over BA, she's been with me from the start and was a much better choice than some outside party. I hope everyone enjoys the new BA. Thanks for the support.

Sounds like some Aizen level treachery.

All in all, just glad you guys are back now.

Well that's too bad that someone decided to be a douche and screw the site over. I wonder what the motivation was behind doing it? That's my biggest worry. If they aren't satisfied with screwing the site, might they try something in the future? One would hope not, but it can't be ruled out. I'd hate to think that the person did it just for lulz on their part.

Whatever the reason, hopefully past mistakes can be learned from and this fresh start won't do much harm in the long run.

We won't have to worry, he just previously had access to help with the tech stuff.

The motivation was quite possibly a toddler-style tantrum, and really should be pitied.

Anyway, I am glad that this person justified to everyone by his behaviour that BA was correct in demodding him last year.

If it's who I'm thinking of, I never really did like the guy much. I won't name names, but I'm pretty sure I know who you're referring to. Hopefully, now with the site in capable hands (not suggesting Space wasn't capable, quite the opposite), we can bounce back from this though.

it is quite unfortunate :( i've been so busy lately that for a good while, i was wondering what had happened to our awesome site and later found out from Kuro what happened :wtf.....there were thousands upon thousands of GREAT posts that many of us have poured so much of our time and efforts into :(...however, the one thing that i'll truly miss the most are my VMs :(....but it is what it is and thank you guys for not filtering what TRULY happened to our old forum. i think its rather obvious who it was *points to the guy with the smallest p*nis in the room*, and the only person with such a childish mentality that its really very disconcerting. and lol....i never knew the guy, never had any interests in knowing him to begin with, but he sounds like a real tool :)...i dont know if the culprit is reading much of our new posts and seeing that the site is back up and...oh who am i kidding, he likely has nothing better to do i'm sure. but i'll digress...

i for one, am truly appreciative to all the efforts that all of you (Unicorn, Belias, Az, Spacecat and all the site leaders) who have put forth the effort into re-creating our site, Unicorn :)

That is an awful thing to do! I cannot believe that someone found it their right to ruin an entire forum. Despicable.

However, there is nothing wrong with a fresh start! :o I do think that it was a great idea to start everything from scratch instead of reverting the forum back to a much much earlier date. It's already starting to pick up and I have to say that I'm even more excited to help contribute to the forum as well!

Let's put everything bad that happened behind us and make an even better Bleach Asylum!

Indeed, that was quite a bagstab, said person is scum in my eyes.

But this is that and i'm glad we can start over.

I'm sure BA will be what it was before :D

I know hardly anything about computers but being a completely layman I would guess that the safest way to store computer data is putting it on a disc or other device that is not connected with the running computer in any way. This means nobody from outside can hack into it.

What I think about what this person did is not printable. I better keep it to myself.

I am happy that BA is back and I am grateful for all the hard work so many people invested in this new start. I am trying my best to contribute what I can. :)

I think I haven't done so, but thank you spacecat (I've never talked to you, but you sound like a swell person based on your past posts :)).

I've scanned through the site now, and its excellent. Thank you for all the admins, Unicorn and Belias for being so available to moderate our new accounts, and handling the member suggestions. BA is back on track, I can see most of the mods online, too. I saw Azley compiling past BA posts in the Interview with Tite Kubo thread (Dear goodness, that must've taken a lot of time) and the FCs are filling up quite fast.

We're definitely picking up despite the past circumstances. I'm happy to see all the familiar names online right now ^_^

Thank you everyone for the effort.

Whoever that person was.... well, hum. Too bad. We're picking ourselves up. I bet that was unexpected :)

Yes, you're right but the bigger the database the bigger the backup. Of course backups are important - it could be stored on HDD or an external HDD (or by using a online solution) on a regular update-basis like once a month or so.
We'll see how we can ensure that something like never happens again but seeing that it was done on bad intent we shouldn't get too jumpy about it as we weren't hacked but said person had access and could delete everything.

Well said, silverquord! It takes more than this to destroy our community :D

As for the Interviews: 5 hours of work (copying to MSword + setting all the BB-codes), ~ 89.000 characters *g

That's horrible. I will keep my current thoughts of you-know-who to myself; there may be children reading. Someone is certainly very childish to do such a thing.

It's so strange someone would do such a thing (and I also got an idea who it was but yes, won't mention any names), but maybe in a way it was better this way. As you said, there was a lot of data with bugs and corruption. I noticed this too the brief time was modding even though I wasn't directly involved with the technical aspect of running the site. It was noticeable that the database needed a serious cleanup though.

So here we are starting from scratch. In a way I feel it was the best way for everyone and of course we'd hang in there with you since it was unintentional to have this happen! Let's make BA the best Bleach fan forum now! :D

For someome to hold that kind of grudge…it's indescrible for words. :( I'm so happy BA has returned, and I'm grateful for all the hard work everyone did to save it. I'm really really, going to miss Spacecat, but I'm happy that Unicorn has taken the helm.

*hugs everyone*

I'll admit that seeing spacecat go saddens me, though I'm happy to see our beloved site is still in such well hands.
I'm sure Uni will do an amazing job though, thanks to Belias, Azley and any one else that really helped get the site back on its feet (if I'm missing anybody, which I'm sure I am - *sweetdrop*).

Thanks for clearing everything up though!

Special thanks to our wonderful team of moderators, administrators and all the members for helping to get back all the previous topics and all the fun around.

I want to thank Spacecat first because without him we wouldn't get this place at all. It's the result of his amount of work. And the love BA gets nowadays is born thanks to him.

Unicorn and Belias (I have to be used that name), thank you a lot for your hard work for getting back BA like it is. Of course it will improve and become like it was before but thank you.

Azley, just the best moderator ever. I have expected you to become a futur admin, to get the red color but it seems you refused at some point. So thank you you too.

I want to echo everybody's thanks for Uni, Bel, Space, and Azley... you guys deserve tons of kudos for the incredible amount of work you have done to give us all a wonderful place to share our love of Bleach.

While this site was down, I did try finding another forum to visit to talk about chapters 529 and 530, only to realize how this is FAR and AWAY the best Bleach site on the web. There are numerous other Bleach sites, but few of them seem to have the quality and variety of conversations here. Having BA down made me realize how much it means to me. So I'm so glad to be back! *hugs*

As to the pathetic lowlife who trashed the files? I believe that what comes around goes around and he will get his comeuppance in one way or another. Although... that is a criminal act that could be prosecuted.

Thanks for informing us about what happened, nothing worse than being betrayed by someone you thought was a friend. It sucked not having my favorite place to discuss the new chapters, thankfully you guys are back. In terms of backups I'm sure you guys are working on a new foolproof system but if you need me to store some encrypted copies of stuff on my server let me know I don't mind.

It's sad to find out it was one of BA's own that deleted the root user but I'm thankful that BA has such wonderful and devoted admins/mods that the forum was able to to go back up. Thank you Unicorn, Belias, Azley and all the rest of the mods for making Bleach Asylum one of the best Bleach forums on the net. Hopefully in time, we can re-build BA back up to what it used to be (if not better).^^ Being away from BA for so long made me truly appreciate this forum and all the people who post here. This forum is kind of like my second family in some way. I have made so many friends here that share the same interests as me and I think that if BA didn't exist, I would have never met them.

The new bonds we'll form in the future will be much stronger than before!

It takes a lot to bring us down! If that guy thinks he can take down BA of all forums, he's got another thing coming! Maybe Bleach Exile, but NOT BA! lmao

Well, it doesn't matter. Thankfully all new members must be approved. I suppose admins and mods know the IP of the person and won't let it happen again. They have done and are still doing amazing job. Countless words of appreciation are well deserved by them.

It is shame that it was ex-mod who did it. This is almost same thing as betraying your own company by revealing secrets to rival company.

I agree with Sariniste.

This forum is the best one. Admins and mods do incredible job here. Keep it up guys.

That really stinks that one person would ruin other peoples work and fun.

I for one, am just glad that the site is back up. I felt a little bit lonely without my BA. Even though I was never really active big time.I'd like to just give a big thanks to those who got it back up and running.
