I mean you know like that whole Captain America dying thing? How Flash is the worst overpowered superhero ever, or how Spiderman > most characters in any still picture format.
I noticed the lack of the subsection, so...
I've never been a fan of american comics, most of them feel so un-original to me, and I dislike how a lot of them have been redone for different generations.
I do like seeing them every now and then though (good to change things up sometimes)

Nah there all the same to me. Bland and boring. Thought loads enjoy them so they can't be that bad. Just not of my interest level.

Most are ok. I would not read them now. But I'm sure there are a lot of adults crazy for them. To me, they always failed in comparison to japanese comics. That doesn't mean they are bad. Just not up to par for me.
Not a fan of Action Comics, and they're much more interesting when put on the giant screen :p
The only American comic I read (and collect) is The Archies ^^

That's the reason I originally dropped them for manga, but as of late, there have been some good issues with progression going on. Granted, The Flash series screwed that all up with Bart's death. But yeah, I don't see how anyone could NOT read Peter Parker unmasking and Captain America dying without being interested.

I love American comics...like seriously...I have forever..I've been reading them online lately. They always seem to have something manga doesnt have...I love Spider-man, Cable and Deadpool, and Spawn..
If you havent looked into American graphic novel series, please do so...Some of those are the best things I've ever read..... Sandman by Neil Gaiman (Actually anything by Neil Gaiman) Watchmen by Alan Moore/Dave Gibbons, Kingdom Come by Alex Ross/Mark Waid, Batman: The Dark Night Returns by Frank Miller, its all really great stuff.....Its not really right how some people put stuff down without looking into the dpths of it...Like how people say anime and manga are for people with no jobs lives or dates, its just annoying...right?
The one thing about american comics that I really just can't stand is how the stories get retold, with changes from before.
Granted I don't follow them indepth or anything, but haven't Batman, Superman, Spiderman, and the X-men had there origins redone many times?
The stories and plots are good (very different from manga, not necessarily better or worse just different) and the same goes for the art. But I just can't move past the fact that the origins change.
If i'm wrong about the whole changing origins thing then please tell me

You arent necessarily, and it is a bit annoying, but there is usually a main storyline and alternate storylines (Amazing Spiderman is the original and Ultimate Spiderman is the shitty redo) Most of the Marvel Ultimate titles blow...So you should really just ignore them...Batman and Supermans origins have been retold, and altered in one-shots, but the main story is the same, Batman was a rich kid whose parents were murdered, and Superman is the last child from a dead world. But thats why American graphic novels are so great, because the character and story doesnt get handed around and (insert good word here) because the people who write and draw them are usually the same people throughout (or at least with the same people) Thats also why i like Spawn and Cable/Deadpool. I usually just read the main story (The Civil War was great if you wanna know how it started I'd be happy to rant :p) But anyway, the main canon origins rarely change..just PLEASE ignore the Ultimate series.......PLEASE...They BLOW!
i've read some green lantern and spider man online. I've always liked GL.

When I was younger I was an avid fan of Spider-man and Dark Hawk (lol but I forgot if his name was one word or two :p). I also liked Spawn a lot, but then it started to draaaaaag on. -_-
Now I just stick to manga, but American comics have their moments (and series!).

I really like American comics, I'm a Marvel fan, more specifically a Spider-Man fan xD. I did collect Amazing for a time but then it got really, really complicated with Civil War and I had to choose between manga or ASM... and manga won out :P
I still get Ultimate Spider-Man every issue, pfft I dunno what you're talking about, it's really well written and the art is great, even if it's a bit drawn out sometimes.
Ah, and "Spider-Man Loves Mary Jane", which is also really good, but they switched artists and that kinda soured me... a lot, lol. Takeshi Miyazawa will be missed :(
Edit: I have a bunch from the 80s and early 90s, too, and some of the more recent Spectacular issues (right before it got cancelled, again) Ahh.. Jenkins and Buckingham... that was one good last issue.

Ultimate Spiderman died for me when they reintroduced Carnage...i mean...WTF??? Hes jsut a goo man who dies instead of an insane mass murderer with a power hungry alien living inside him?!
lame :p

You are WRONG. Ultimate SPiderman is flawed but great. Hell, everything in Ultimate Land > 616. No baggage, man. And how can you NOT like the Ultimates? Are you on drugs on something?
Thor is sooo much cooler, Iron Man isn't a total wad yet, Captain America owns face (I used to hate the guy until Ultimates), and Nick Fury. Fucking Nick Fury, I mean Samuel L. Jackson because just take a look at the man.

I never really been interested un American comics...but I have the impression that artists actually have very little power over their own works...I mean, handing a character/series from one author to another is unthinkable in most other form of media right? And they are so character based plot seems to happen just simply to shock the readers (example: the people dying and coming back to life). I've never really followed any of them, but just the idea that readers can vote for who should die shows how thoughtless the plots are.
I mean SJ is as profit based as it gets, but if it ever pull stuff like that they'll probably bankrupt.

Gah Ultimate Spider-Man is pretty well written at times but it still blows to me (nevermind that I bought the Ultimate Venom compilation and still read Ultimate Spider-Man) I mean, the villains got kinda dumb with their new origins *coughCarnageCough* Yeah, Black Nick Fury does own and would be awesome played By Samuel L Jackson. But Earth 616>>>>Ultimate I mean, Ga Lak Tus!?
Galactus is a giant guy in purple armor who eats planets...I'm sorry but thats better than a wad of computers....Besides the Civil War storyline was great and for me really helped Marvel come out of a bit of a storytelling slump, Especially with the recent Spider-Man Back in Black stories and Cable and Deadpool is awesome.
Ps. Ironman became a wad to me no matter what continuity it is when Cap died...

Yeah.....Dying and coming back NEVER happens in manga :p
Yuyuhakushodrgonballseriesbleach
And DC comics did that one because they didnt know whether or not Robin was good for the story anymore (That Robin was a dick btw..)
And again theres no point in calling American comics' pots thoughtless unless you've read them all all the way through , yeah the clone series was HORRIBLE, even the characters joke about that but people arent getting blown apart so you'll say OMG and then rejected back together....

I agree that Civil War was good and USM's villains are just wierd these days. But still Ultimates is leagues above anything in 616. That is how Loki should attack Thor. And the Hank Janet dynamic is so adult. Not to mention the creepiness of Quick and Scarlet (or hotness if you like incest.)

Well I havent really read the Ultimates that much.....I'll lok into it though, i've been reading the X-Men endangered species mini storyline.....Beast is willing to sell his soul to the worlds greatest villains if they can find a way to reverse M-Day

That's another thing I hate about 616. Isn't Beast in Space with Colossus and co.? I like how Ultimate comics try to keep everything in one single solid world storyline.

Nah Beast is on earth...He's trying to reverse M-Day and he recently fought the Hulk who was trying to kill Xavier because he helped to send him into space
Anyway the issue of creative control was addressed in an issue of Spawn. Spawn sees whats inside one of the levels of hell..its a prison, silhouettes are crying out to Spawn, and he comes to the end where there is a silouette with an evil grin wearing a cape (He is clearly Superman) Spawn is told that all of these prisoners have been abandoned by their creators and that he could save them, because he hasnt been abandoned. Even "The one who came first, the template for us all" (Superman) has been abandoned. This also comes since Todd MacFarlane used to work for Marvel but he left and formed his own company because he wasnt happy with how they viewed character ownership
well never really got into it, but it sounds quite interesting!.. most of what I know of american comics were the cartoon adaptations from the 90's though. I thought most of the plots and characters were well made =D
But what I don't like is that the story seems to never have any endings (i might be wrong though)

No.
You aren't :p
For the most part series go on and on like more of a chronicle of events than a series. Graphic Novel series and short one shots have endings though (And often great ones :p)

A; that puts him in 2 places at once.
B; Astonishing X men has him in 3 places. astonishing space with colossus (same deal), reversal with beast, and fighting hulk with all the big xmen names.

Comments like that....If you haven't at least dabbled into all aspects of a genre then it isn't quit fair to make generalizations...Its ike the people who say manga is nothing but big boobs and giant robots....And though there are alot of tose that nowhere near all there is...

Haven't really done American comics. Dabbled in a bit of Ultimate Spiderman, some random Justice League stuff, etc etc. But nothing to make a judgment about. Some of the art is really really good though. But the most I've read of any American comic is Archie, Garfield, and Dilbert. >.<
Wait...Garfield and Dilbert could as American comics, right?

I was raised on the original X-men, which I still read and some of the spin-offs. I love Calvin and Hobbes and original newspaper comics, but that's about it.

Edit: When you say original do you mean 70's? With hairless beast, or early 90's when they were effectively reborn.
Anyone reading World War Hulk? Anyone else impressed by Trauma? Not to mention Teen Titans is fun to read.

I love American comics, it's my first love if you want to talk comic genres. X-men is my first love as far as teams, and Rogue is my favorite character, ever. Haven't cared for World War Hulk, but Messiah Complex right now has me entralled.
I perfer American comics I guess because of the artwork, and they tell more of a story in each issue than manga does. I think part of what makes some of the characters attractive is the history they've had and it's amazing to me that writers are still able to produce good stories with those characters. Lately I have been getting into more DC, but I'm more of a Marvel person. Right now I'm enjoying Gail Simone's run on Wonder Woman, and I've really been enjoying Catwoman.

I'm too pissed off at the 'One More Day' Spider-Man arc to respond to this thread with any degree of sense. I used to read more Marvel stuff (and some Image) but my ceaseless annoyance at Jean Grey just spoiled my enjoyment of X-Men entirely. Goddamn it.
The Authority is pretty freaking awesome, though.
Also I used to read the old Transformers comics. <3 Optimus Prime <3

I can never get into single or even team female lead series because the pounding message of 'Anything you can do I can do better' annoys me. Get me not wrong, I'd love to be the backup or the pretty one, but I don't need the message of equality drilled into my brain when I'm looking for explosions and drama. I need to catch up on M Complex, but if you feel like venturing away from Marvel I hear anything with Green Lanterns involved in the last year
has been epic crossovers done right. As opposed to that crisis thing.
~~~
I have all the StH issues up to ...75 I think? I'm a Sega Kid despite how bad that comic really was. Took too long to give Tails the spotlight though the games could learn something about that from the comics.
~~~
I'm way behind on Spiderman what with having been in school and work, but I heard nothing great about it so I have no real incentive to see Peter being sad over someone who shoulda been dead decades ago. As for X-Men, you should read New X-Men or perhaps earlier Ultimate X-Men, as the Utliverse (alteast Ultimates volume 3) has just gotten stupidly convoluted as of late.
Think I read 2 issues of the Authority. The super hero police group made up of 'normal' people? That 'hazing' of the new super heroine was so messed up.

I grew up with American Comics. American Comics were the original manga...right?
Anyways my favortie reads were Archie, Superman of course, and Batman. This was way back tho, like 8 years ago, lol. I don't read much of anything really anymore. I loved the original Superman's from when they first came out. I watched a thing on the History Channel about the History of Superman. He actually ued to have the power to blow out a star with his breath, lol.

Right now, I'm really digging the IDW version of Transformers. It's like G1 updated and whatnot. So far it's been a very fun and somewhat nostalgic (due to the characters, not the storyline) read.
