Hinamori is an upbeat and easygoing girl who gets along with nearly everyone she meets. Hinamori is generally quite trusting, but also very impulsive and naÃ¯ve. She greatly admires her former captain, Sōsuke Aizen, and is a childhood friend of the 10th Division captain, Tōshirō Hitsugaya. Her appearance is fairly ordinary compared to other shinigami in Soul Society. She wears her hair up in a bun with a cloth wrapped around it. According to Tite Kubo, Hinamori's name was changed at the last minute; she had a completely different name in the sketch stage.

Hinamori grew up in Junrinan, District 1 of Rukongai, along with Tōshirō Hitsugaya. While Hitsugaya tended to be a bit of a brat as a child and insisted that he would protect her, Hinamori found him amusing and treated him in an older sisterly fashion. The two became close friends and still remain so, evident by Hinamori's continued tendency to use her nickname for him, Shiro-chan (literally "Whitey," in reference to his hair), while Hitsugaya grew out of calling her "bed-wetter Momo".

Hinamori's zanpakutō is Tobiume (飛梅, lit. flying plum tree). The command for its shikai is "snap" (弾け, hajike?).[3] In the English dub, she also adds the word "deflect," though she does it after announcing the full command phrase.

When its shikai is activated, Tobiume's blade straightens and produces several jitte-like prongs along its length. In this form, Tobiume acts as a focus for Hinamori's spiritual power, concentrating it into energy bursts capable of cratering floors and breaching walls. Hinamori can also compress her power into massive energy balls and toss them from the blade's tip. In the game Bleach: Blade Battlers, Tobiume creates crimson fire instead of pink-colored energy bursts, though normally this same fire trails the blade just before she fires.

To stir up a conversation, what do you like/dislike about hinamori? Who do you like to pair her up with?

I like hinamori's courage the most. In academy days, she stood up to the huge hollow and helped rescued hisagi. She stood up to byakuya when he wanted to send renji to prison. She stood up to gin and kira when she found out that aizen was dead. She stood up to hitsugaya believing he was aizen's murderer.

What I dislike about her is her carelessness. She accused gin of being aizen's murderer before having evidence. She's also cluessless at times.

Pairings: Hitsugaya/hinamori is my fav. but I think kira/hinamori is more likely to happen.

I like how well meaning and innococent Hinamori is. Always happy and kind to everyone. People criticise Hinamori for going crazy at Hitsugaya but you can't say its all her fault she went crazy because her captain lied and manipulated her. Not her fault x3 hope she comes to realise the truth soon. ;_;

Punk: "Shiro-chan"? HAHAHAHA! I can't believe someone like this would come here! If he's an acquaintance of yours, Hinamori, how about replacing that insolent brat with someone like -

Hinamori: Ah!

Punk: Hahahaha! (sfx: POW) Oof! What the hell are you doing!

Hitsugaya: Don't touch Hinamori.

I see a lot of hate for this character but I think people have unreasonable expectations. Being a realist myself I would say that she is just reacting how most humans would in this situation but because it is simply shounen everyone howls if a character has flaws and or weaknesses. I'll join (: She's one of my fav. characters. I feel bad for all the hate that she receives :/

She isn't one of my favourites, but I always join the fanclubs because she receives undeserved hatred. Plus, I really like her. I like some others better, but still, Hinamori is a great character.

To stir up a conversation, what do you like/dislike about hinamori? Who do you like to pair her up with?

Likes: she's courageous (yep, that day in the academy she was more corageous than Renji and Kira), she is tender and loving. She cares for other people and is that rare combination of sweet temper and strength.

She's smart when choosing her affections and admirations. I know it sounds bad, but let me explain, please.

I have always disliked the female naive characters who fall for the worst guy in the vicinity thinking they can change him or whatever. I used to think they were pretty stupid. As a good-lover girl myself, I never understood why some girls, both in fiction and real life, put their affections and trust in total bastards.

Hinamori put her affections in what seemed one of the best-hearted, most charming, amiable, kind and caring captains. I doated on him after three chapters. Boy, do I love when a good guy is made to be strong, charismatic and cool. Plus, Aizen (with glasses) was, in my opinion, the handsomest guy of the cast. So, I franky thought Hinamori was smart for looking up to him, and for loving him. If she used her feelings of admiration as fuel to make herself work harder, that makes her all the smartest. I loved her for that. I loved Aizen and Momo as a couple, and was only vaguely worried because Aizen was so good that I feared he would be bad. Damn my guesses.

So... there are lots of reasons to like Hinamori. And one of the reasons I like her is that she displayed great taste in choosing the object of her affections. He happened to be deceiving the whole world for a hundred years? Well, that's not her fault.

Attacking Gin was her fault. But she was suffering from severe hysteria. I don't like her hysterics, but I can forgive them.
Attacking Hitsugaya was worse. Yes, Aizen had deceived her, but she could have thought someone had deceived Aizen before attacking Hitsugaya. I still forgive her because she was soaring in pain, but she owed an apology to Hitsu... Which she gave as soon as she woke up from the coma. She apologized for having doubted Hitsugaya, and for having raised her sword against him. It's easy to forgive mistakes made in pain, and much easier to do so when the person recognizes them. Well, we all commit mistakes. If she hadn't apologized to Hitsu, I would have thought very bad of her, but the very first thing she did after waking up from the coma, was apologize. That was what she ought to do. Grief is an excuse to do stupid things, but not an excuse for not repenting. She regretted her attack on Hitsu. Hey, I'm sure Byakuya also regretted trying to go on with Rukia's execution. Everyone commits mistakes, and the best ones admit them and apologize for them.

Those two careless attacks are the only thing that's wrong in her, her way of letting herself be carried out by her feelings. I think she follows her heart too much, like that day in the academy when she faced that huge hollow and then couldn't remember her kidou. She's too heart-driven. But then again, that's because she's tender and caring: she doesn't love by halves.

She's a charming girl who's had extreme bad luck with the choice of mentor and first love. I hope Kubo doesn't leave her half-crazy in bed, because I'd be sorely disappointed.

And, just one thing, to everyone. When people start saying that Momo is an idiot because she attacked Hitsugaya, remind them a few facts.

1º. EVERYONE in Soul Society believed Aizen and followed his orders. If Hinamori hadn't, she would be as much a girl genius as Hitsugaya.
2º. That "everyone" includes Byakuya Kuchiki, who fought with all his strength to assist to the execution of HIS SISTER. And he did it in cold-blood, which in my opinion makes it worse than Momo's hysterical attacks.
3º. "Everyone" includes Renji Abarai, a childhood friend of Rukia, who also fought Ichigo Kurosaki almost to death, to get Rukia Kuchiki (his childhood friend for decades) killed. Renji changed his mind, and so did Momo in time. Why is it that Momo gets hated and Renji doesn't?
4º. I'll repeat it: EVERYONE in SS fell for Aizen's schemes, and they were very willing to kill an innocent person, knowing the punishment was too harsh. The only one who did something about it from the beginning is captain Ukitake. Renji changed his mind a little late, and Shunsui later. Then again, none of them get the same hatred as Momo does.
5º. If Momo is stupid for falling for Aizen's trap, then EVERYONE in Soul Society is. Except Ukitake, who deserves a special mention for daring to rescue Rukia without knowing if anything was wrong. Everyone else was as fooled as Momo, just with less reason to get hysterical afterwards.

Another thing that I dislike of Momo bashers:
They think that when she still is loyal to Aizen, and asks Hitsugaya (with that huge communications screen) to "help captain Aizen" she's being stupid.

Hello? The word "coma" rings a bell to anyone? She thought Aizen was death and felt hell, she saw him alive and met heaven, and she got stabbed and got into a coma. When she wakes up, the only thing she knows about Aizen is what others tell her. It's no wonder she doesn't believe it at first. It's like if your Mother or husband, or someone who's been kind and caring for you for a long time, one day starts acting violently. If the police goes for them, you would also say "do not hurt him/her, there must be something wrong". Hey, if my husband tried to stab me, I'd sooner ask for a doctor to see if he has schyzophrenia or a brain tumor. I wouldn't think he's been lying to me perfectly for ten years. And Momo's been lied to for... fifty years? Her reaction is ignorant of the situation, but it's not a stupid or crazy reaction. Though I must admit that Momo's sanity is hanging from a thread at this very moment.

As for pairings... I loved Aizen-Momo when Aizen was the hot good guy I so much loved. It is hard to make a good guy so charismatic, and it is harder to give such sweet, caring characters some kind of sexual chemistry. But those two had it. I hoped Momo would win the affections of his charming captain some day. When I wasn't suspecting Aizen of being a wolf in a lambskin and actually believed he was what he seemed, I thought he was waiting for Momo to grow up a bit. Disappointed.

I don't see Momo with anyone else now. Maybe Kira in the future... but at least after fifty years. In this moment, I think Momo doesn't need a man, but serious girl-to-girl conversations with Tobiume. She needs to talk to her soul, because her sanity is in dire straits, and heck, if you can talk to a personification of your soul, you probably can solve psychological problems better.

If she could get to Hueco Mundo, I wish she met Nel. They would be instant friends, I think. They are very similar, personality-wise. I like them both for their strong, yet non-violent nature.

I wouldn't mind if everyone got as bashed as Hinamori. What I can't stand is people bashing Hinamori and forgetting about the fact that everyone else fell for the same trick. I wish I knew Hinamori's age, and its equivalent in earth years. I agree with you that's she's very naive, but she looks very young. I read somewhere that she was 140 years, which would be fourteen. I don't think she is so young, but I would believe she's a teenager still. Youth can justify naiveté, at least until you get stabbed ;)

As for Hitsu... I have not made my mind about his feelings for Hinamori. She thinks of him as of her younger brother, but I don't know what he feels for her. He could love her as a sister or romantically, I didn't get his feelings clear, neither from the manga nor from the anime. Do you think he loves her as more than a sister?

In any case, they'd make a great couple. And Hitsugaya was most charming towards Momo, when she was apologizing and he just forgave her instantly and sent her to sleep. Whatever their relationship is, I'll like it. Though I prefer their brother-sister relationship. I have always wanted Hitsu to go out with Yachiru when she grows up, but then again, everyone has a different liking. I think Kubo doesn't mention romance (save a few hints) because at this point, any romance he declares official is going to leave lots of disappointed fans. So he leaves the hints and lets us fans think whatever we please :D

I agree with speed, people bashing Hinamori seem to forget that AIZEN is powerful, manipulative and EVERYONE was pwned.
That is always forgotten when the time comes to bash Momo. The fact that she was unconscious in a coma while Aizen showed up as the bad guy is also conveniently forgotten.

Like, Hinamori is naive in a sense but she is courageous and awesome.
Totally. And I would like to know her age. She looks very young when she started at the academy. The younger she is, the more understandable her naiveté. And in any case... You are very naive if you trust blindly someone like Gin Ichimaru. I don't think trusting Aizen was that naive: in my opinion, it shows good sense. If you have a look at it, the Hinamori-Aizen relationship was very similar to the Isane Kotetsu-Unohana Retsu. Unohana is powerful, caring and calm. When Isane is worried and can't sleep, she also finds comfort and peace of mind in Unohana. If Unohana had been the traitor, Isane would have fallen for the trick just as Hinamori, being naive or not.

Plus, her rambling through the Soul Society TV to me is her suffering through Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Yes.
Totally agreed. The problem with Bleach is that we are used to very strong characters, both physically and emotionally. After a hundred chapters of having blood spurting like spring water, people being chopped into pieces and still standing, people being cut in almost halves and still trying to fight... among all that, someone who has a depressión or a post-traumatic disorder looks "weak". What people don't understand is that it's the normal reaction to such a thing. Orihime also gets bashed for being sad and angsty at Hueco Mundo. Heck, she's been kidnapped, what should she do, dance salsa and sing karaoke with Ulquiorra? Of course she's depressed. And, of course Hinamori is suffering from a trauma after what's happened. The characters wouldn't be believable otherwise. Yeah, I love a kickass fight of people who get their members butchered and still go on, I love that type of strong characters as much as anyone else. But I also like characters I can relate to, and a little bit of depression when you get kidnapped, or when the love of your life gets killed, and then he's alive, and then he tries to kill you and betrays your whole society... Hey, I like that stuff too. And if it's made in a way in which I can believe it, I like it all the more. I can believe Momo's reaction and suffering, and sympathise with her, and that's one of the reasons I like her. I love Kenpachi and Ikkaku fighting to death, but I like some human weaknesses in my characters from time to time ;)

I have to repeat it: I wish she met Neliel. I think they would be great friends. I can't help but love non-violent warriors, the type who fight for ideals, for a cause they believe in, or for defense, but not for the fight itself. Momo is one of those, and that's another thing I like of her.

Yeah that's true, Hinamori has even less reason to be attacked since she was around Aizen the most and he could manipulate her more than any others. It's just because she attacked Hitsugaya as well ><. I think Hinamori seems to be 17-18 or so but you can never tell with anime since everyone looks young:p.

Fanboy dreams is what fandom is made of :p And what makes it all the more interesting. :D In any case, as Kubo seems totally unwilling to give us romance, we'll have to find it in doujinshi. And the wonder of doujinshis is that they can make the HitsuHinas, HitsuMatsus and AizenHinas equally happy. Just read the doujinshis with your favorite couple, et voilá! Maybe it's a good idea that Kubo doesn't show romance at all, that's the only way to please all fans.

Indeed she was. But she was also corageous and hard working. That's why she's so likable. She's not "cute" as in "cutesy, dressed in pink frilly dress with ribbons". She's cute as in caring, lovingly, and trying to be corageous despite how fragile she looks.

Totally agreed. I don't like romance-only stories, because they make too big a fuss of romance. Romance is not all that there's to life, there's also exams, jobs, friendship and promotion. I love romance, but only as part of a wider plot that includes everything else life is made of. The problem with Bleach is that it promises a lot of romance, but then doesn't give it. Bleach includes a little bit of everything: ambition, ruthlessness, violence, fights, friendship, learning curves, hard work, attempts to grow better... and almost little or no romance. I don't like a manga that's all romance, but I don't like one that doesn't include any romance either. At least we get something (one sided) with Orihime. What bothers me is that Kubo can create great romance and provide chemistry between characters if he wants to. Orihime's declaration of love for Ichigo was one of the most beautiful love declarations I've ever read. If Kubo can do such beautiful romantic scenes, he should do a few more. No need for overusing them, but frankly, with so much character interaction and sparks flying, some more romance would be very welcome. I don't want Bleach to be all romance, but a little bit more of it would be very good.

Plus, we want it. And the client is always right :D

I agree in that she should stop worshipping Aizen, but to stop loving him she's going to need decades.

In any case, the way in which she won't get rid of her bond with Aizen is the hospital bed. She needs to face him. If Momo doesn't participate in the winter wars, and simply stays at hospital to find up that Aizen's dead, that's going to kill her. Or kill her psychologically, and her sanity is quite endangered already. Whatever she does, she has to face Aizen, or will never get rid of him. Problem is, facing Aizen isn't going to be an easy task.

Her growth as a person will depend on her getting over Aizen which we're all confident she can do:p.
I am confident she can get over Aizen, but I am sure that it would be difficult, hard for her, and would need time... time with him, of course. The angst of such an interaction makes my spine shiver. I'm yearning to see something like it. But it either has to be hard or unbelievable. Being hugged by friends won't solve the problem (though it would give comfort).

You shall have to make other plans Aizen-friend:hm:XD!
Aizen isn't really interested in Hinamori, that's what hurts her the most. Though I don't understand why he didn't carry her with him to Hueco Mundo. He just had to ask for her to go with him. Though in time, her heart would have been torn between her feelings for Aizen and her loyalty to family and friends in SS. She's in a lose-lose situation, at least as long as she misses Aizen-taichou. And Aizen-taichou never existed, so the problem is serious.

I just hope this relationship is treated in the manga, and that Hinamori doesn't stay forgotten at the hospital.

The Japanese have done wonderful stuff with kimonos, but as for the dresses that best become Asian women's slender figures, the Chinese win first place with their Qipao. Besides, the Quipao looks even better when the woman has her hair up in a bun, so it would suit Hinamori greatly. I want Hinamori in one of these, for formal occasions:

What I love of the quipao is that even if the girl shows her legs and even being pretty flashy, it is still classy. Probably because it doesn't make a great show of breasts. Hinamori, however, would look great in one of those.

That drawing is very pretty, but it seems to portray the Hinamori of 30 of 40 years ago. Very young and naive.

On other topics, I think Hinamori and Hitsugaya were "Rukongai" siblings, that is, that they were adopted by the same family, and to a certain extent, grew up together. If he calls her "bed-wetter Momo", he has to know her from a time when both were VERY young. Or maybe he was just insulting Momo with a lie :-) I've always thought of them as adopted siblings (sorry Hitsu-Hinas, don't beat me pleeease).

"I have had enough of your trickery and your evil ways!" Hinamori started to tear up. "Go to hell, you bastard!!" She unsheathed her zanpakuto, while she changed some sort of kidou spell.

Aizen smirked. "There, there Hinamori-kun. You're not so foolish to do something that idiotic, ne?" Then everybody goes in to help her, but they lose some shinigami along the way....Like Omaede :D

Unluckily, even if she did, we all know she doesn't have the strenght. Aizen is way too powerful for her to be able to even scratch him. Another thing would be if she used some different new device by Urahara, or something unexpected. Power-level speaking, she doesn't stand a chance against him. Sad fact, but true.

I did a high ponytail and wrapped it in a bun then I used my Hinamori bun to cover the bun and use the strings / ribbons to tighten it :D

Hmm, I don't think she'll be able to see Aizen... he is behind a firewall, no?

Lol, I made most of it. I made Tobiume (a cheap version, lolz; $1 :heehee), hair bun, VC badge and that's my own hair so yay! for no need wigs :urahara

speedphantom's aunt made the black kimono and white obi strap for me.

I bought the Hakama. :facepalm

Yay! It's her and she's sane and kicking ass! I'm YEARNING to see her face! She's back just as I wanted her: having chosen sides, having acknowledged Aizen is a traitor, but still hurt deep inside. In short, Momo is trying to move ahead, but isn't there yet. Hell, I wouldn't believe the character if she had gotten over Aizen so quickly. But I can believe her if she tries hard to do so, and tries to help her friends. Weeeeee!

And, at last, I want to see some good kidou fight. As a general rule, we've only seen sword fights, with more or less power. We haven't seen a fully kidou-based fight yet, I'm yearning to see what a kidou expert can do.

By the way, am I the only one who's refreshing constantly every site where there are scanlations of the bleach manga? I am checking out if this chapter is uploaded about every five minutes :D

Yes, her face used to be more round, more childlike.Now her face looks slimmer (she probably lost some weight at the hospital during the coma), and her expression is more determined. She looked like a teenager who is still childlike, and now she looks like a teenager heading towards womanhood. I can't but remember the song "Girl, you'll be a woman, soon". She matured, both in looks, expression and mind. In the SS arc, she didn't want to fight anyone. Now she's ready to. As Nietzsche wrote "what doesn't destroy me, makes me stronger". And Aizen's betrayal was close to destroy her. I knew if she got to recover, she HAD to become stronger. Law of life.

It was. Her face is slightly more pointed. Her eyes are also less huge, and therefore less innocent. Though still big, they don't look that innocent now, and much more determined.
