This is a fanclub for those who like Byakuya & Rukia's relationship in a romantic sense or just enjoy their sibling relationship (or both-Kuchikicest!)

May I join, JebbaChan! This was actually the first pairing that was responsible for getting me into Bleach. First episode I watched of Bleach was episode 93 where Byakuya saves Rukia and holds her in her arms. :love

:D Funny you should mentioned that, my sister who is more of Miyazaki fan (as far she;s concern Bleach is clorox!) was watching that epi (93) with me, she thought that Byakuya was the hero, Rukia his fiesty little lady and Ichigo the comical side kick :p

Thanks for the welcome! My absolute fave fic has to be Substitute Affections by Akane_Rei! She said there will be NC-17 content especially in part II when Rukia and Byakuya get married, but it's been a while since she's updated. :( Anyway, that was also the first ever fanfic I read of Bleach. She did a great job of keeping everyone in character too!

Ahah, I think Byakuya is full of contradictions; he wants Rukia's well-being but in the meantime, he understands that she wants -and need- to fight (it wouldn't surprise me if he trained her XD). I think it's cute those baby-steps to reconstruct their relationship XD
I'm sure he'd be very open and agree to whatever she wants (the fact that he let her go to HM partly proves it) but I wonder how he would react now, after her fight with Aaro. ^^

Yeah i think he has trained her somewhere along the line. (to me it seem the death world goes faster than earth or is that just me?) I know thats what i am waiting for tbh. I wanted some flashy hero here i come stuff but then i though nah its Kubo why would he do that?

SS has the same time than the earth time. It doesn't go faster or slower :)
I don't think Byakuya will come to the rescue >____> It's just his way to agree without seeming to that amuses me.
Also, you have to love that they are as dorky when it comes to drawings lol. Just watch them in the omake at the beach, and you could think that they're blood-related at this point, because they're so similar XD

You know what Syn? Sergelia and I were talking over PM and thought the same! (see spoiler below) As for his reaction to Rukia's state, I don't know. sometimes i think he knows she won't be hurt, probably a spy at HM? or he trained her? but sometimes i think he is ready to face whatever consequence there is for sending her there.

I think that by letting her go to HM, Byakuya accepted that she could be hurt or worse, could die. He accepted that she is a fighter and the risks that represent that part of her.

Yeah, I think that's a character development for Byakuya, considering he's (too?) protective of her to the point that he prevents her promotion to a seated officer because of the danger every mission entails. He became more understanding of her, and recognize her abilities. ;)

I hope to see more sibbling interaction after the current arc and I want to see ever-so-emotionless gentle face when he learned that Rukia almost died in HM. (Talk about seeing the future :rolleyes:

So if I wanted to discuss something more romantic regarding byaruki, I should put warning advisory and post in "Spoiler mode" right :D I am actually quite open either way, I adore the big brother-little sister connection but at the same time I am not adverse to anythig romantic developing between them. I guess not having a big brother in real life lessen any eek factor for me :D Altough Japanese manga seem to have siblings complex, in all honesty the likelihood of a romance is pretty dim. At any rate they are, hands down Bleach's most gorgoeus pair of siblings.:inlove

I'm a sucker for overprotective older brother- types. I prefer the sibling kind of love myself but since their not blood related, I don't think I would mind any romantic feelings :D I lost count of how many times I've reread chapter 179, it's the most ByaxRu moment of the entire manga (until now......I want more) and the last scene where he holds his hand out to her and she takes it and holds it close to her was HEART WRENCHING !!!!!!

ByaRuki is another weird pairing I love. For some reason I like UkiRuki as well O__o

I think the only "normal" pairing I like in Bleach is RenjiRuki. I have a lot more crack pairings in Naruto though, like NejiHina. Maybe that's why I like ByaRuki. I must have a thing for incest in manga >_<

I hope I'm not the only one who loves Kuchikicest not in a completely familial way in the English speaking world. I'd never wish for them to actually get together, but I think their relationship is a lot more complex than a purely brotherly/sisterly relationship.

I absolutely LOVE the caption. I admit that facial expressions of love doesn't only apply to IchiRuki (-__-).

I wonder when will I see Byakuya protecting Rukia like that again.

And I was rewatching episode 62, at the end when Byakuya tried to reach for Rukia's hand and she held it close to her heart and smiled...

:yell Doesn't that make your heart jump??!!
(mentioning that Ichigo was closed up and...was he staring to their direction??!) Byakuya even thanked Ichigo (in his mind, of course) for making him realize how important Rukia to him. *I'm going insane, really*

Somehow, I'd like to see Byakuya and Rukia interaction before Ichiruki.

I was wondering ,do you think Rukia knows now that it was her brother that kept her from advancing in ranks. Yes, she used exact kido that byakuya used to rape Renji's bankai... Well, he DID secretly allow her to go to HM to save Inoue with Ichigo and in order to keep her safe you think he assisted with her training??

Yeah, she does hero worship Byakuya in a way. Reminds me of the Bleach Beach scene where Rukia admires Byakuya's Seaweed Ambassador sand sculpture.

I can't wait to see chapter 248 animated because that's when we get Rukia blushing because of Byakuya. Out of all the men in Bleach, Byakuya is the one who is able to make her blush so beautifully. XD

Methinks we're in for a lot of scenes between these two! Aaaaaah, major reunion time!!! Rukia is going to have bunnies when she wakes up and sees Byakuya. I hope she blushes again. I bet Byakuya was the last person she expected to see, but probably the one she was most hoping to see. I can't wait!!! I'm with you Michsi, I hope Byakuya doesn't take too long defeating Le Roux, he has to be motivated by the fact that Rukia needs him. I wonder if he's going to use Kidou to heal her until 4th Division or Orihime gets to her. Man, the possibilities! Byakuya gets to have the major fight for Rukia's life, awesomeness!!!

And yes, it was awesome to finally see Rukia blush in the anime. She looked so adorable as she thought of Byakuya! XD

Unfortunately, I predict a long period with fight scenes that is actually composed of three fights, always going back and forth between Unohana, Kenpachi and Byakuya. Strangely Kubo has never used this style of spliting chapters during fight's , until HM arc, with Renji/Ishida vs. Szyael to be more precise.Personally,I find it bothersome. Up until now he never changed the scene until the fight was finished. So as to not be offtopic, what I'm actually trying to say is that if that does happen Byakuya will not get a entire chapter dedicated to himself and things will progress kinda slowly.
The reunion thing will most likely happen after the fight ,so ...damn

I wanna join this FC! I love unique/quirky sibling relationships, and Byakuya/Rukia is one of the best!:yay My other favorite sibling relationship is also an adopted sister/brother pair (Rogue and Nightcrawler). *cough irrelevant information, or is it cough*

When I first started watching Bleach, I was shocked at how much Byakuya wanted Rukia dead, and he was so cold and distant to her too... Adopting her, and then never looking directly at her for 40 years? I thought he was an insensitive jerk, and felt so sorry for her.

...And then he saved her from Gin, and it was touching and amazing at the same time. His confession to Rukia about Hisana was so heart breaking and emotional, and it was satisfying when he asked her to forgive him.

Even though she did, I think he still has a long way in fully redeeming himself, but him stepping in to save Rukia from Le Roux is definitely a step in the right direction.

I know he cares for her deeply, but sometimes I wish he'd show it more (to her face, although his anger toward the 7th Espada at him wanting to finish her off is awesome), but that's probably asking for too much from Mr. "I'm too cool for you" Kuchiki. :p

And maybe Rukia cares for him/shows it too much, but the hero-worship thing is adorable. (Like in episode 146, and the Shinigami cup from Episode 141)

I can't wait for her reaction to seeing him there, I just hope she doesn't get depressed over having to be rescued/protected again, (even though she does deserve it after her fight with Aaroniero) she probably would have, if it were anyone else but her brother that came for her. I wonder if he'll have time to heal her before the fighting begins, because she looks pretty bad, lying face down in the sand/snow.

I'm also curious as to what his reaction would be when he finds out that she killed an Espada, and if he'd compliment her for it as well. He's probably the best person (besides Ukitake, and Ichigo doesn't know enough of her history with Kaien to really do anything) to comfort her after that nightmare of a fight.

This is wishful thinking, but maybe she'll get a moment to protect him. (Maybe she gets healed by Sode no Shirayuki?) Anyway, I'd love to see them fight side by side. (It'd be best if she wore a cape like the one he gave her, so they'd both have something around their necks, fluttering in the breeze.) :inlove The visual of snow and sakura petals would be awesome! :yay Plus they could fire off a Kuchiki Kidou Combo, I'm pretty sure that Rukia learned Bakudo #61 (Six Rods Prison of Light) because of him, if not from him.

While I do agree with you whole heartedly, asking more of him would be inhuman. As a Kuchiki he must neglect himself completely and I think Rukia knows that. She also knows that it was not what HE TRULY wanted (when he proclaimed that he will kill her with his own hands), it what was expected of him from Soul Society that bore and raised him.

And then on his own free will he has clearly shown that he would protect Rukia with his life if necessary, doing so because he choosed to. I think that if she didn't know before that he did care for her, she does now after that confession of his, and I think it was hinted quite a lot of times that Rukia does seek something from him and that would be enough (as of NOW.)

But honestly, i think it's time that someone does something for Byakuya. Was he ever TRULY happy?

I think that's because he is a nobleman and that he was poisoned with that cold and uptight attitude since the very beginning of his life, perhaps he has no idea of how to show in a manner that won't remind him and her of his dead wife.

On the other hand, Hisana seemed very happy and content with the way he has been showing his love to her so i don't know. IMO, he just needs time.

Uff I agree!! I think that despite all, she is really proud of having him as her brother. :)
I think she secretly wishes for him to be proud of her too, but they are both way too stubborn and don't let it how. After all, Rukia isn't exactly an individual who would how her soft side around often. But the way she acts around Byakuya is unmistakably different from how she acts around her nakama. very interesting thing indeed! :)

I think this gives Byakuya a major deja vu (Hisana's death) and it would be pretty interesting to see his reactions if Unohana had ... eh... "difficulties" with healing Rukia. To see him finally crack up would be awesome in my opinion. :)

Oh I agree! I doubt the issue will be brought up until they are safely back in Soul Society though. I'd love to see that Byakuya would soften up and actually let Rukia become a seated officer because of this, she'd clearly deserve it. It would make her happy and make him proud.

I kind of thought some of Byakuya's coldness came from his greif over his wife. She seemed pretty young to die. Although I find it hard to imagine he is capable of romance he certainly has to be to marry a woman against his familiy's wishes.

I'm mostly guessing here but I think at some point Kon starts insulting Byakuya ,however Byakuya understands it as an insult to the house/family/pride of the Kuchiki and that angers him. .Kon says something like:"IdiotI I wasn't insultin the Kuchiki family, I was insulting YOU!!!"
And apparently Rukia sides with Byakua(I think she took it the same way her brother did....just goes to show ya ,how alike they are .) and voila

You Know I always wondered if Byakuya would have gone through with it had he managed to defeat Ichigo. Would he have been able to finish the job. I'm pretty sure he was breaking apart on the inside while standing there and watching her get executed, I honestly don't think he would gone through with it.
Also one of my expectations for these new developments is that Byakuya finds out that the Espada Rukia fought had the form of Kaien. I'm quite sure he knew what he meant to her and be angered for the emotional wound they gave her too.

You can say that it's just me since I love them both...

Rukia is always 'soft' around Byakuya, or rather uncomfortable around him, since they are not really blood-related.

By the time she woke up, I think she will be again surprised that Byakuya came to save her. But since it's Byakuya, he can make such excuse as 'it's soul society order' or something like that. I wish he will be more honest. But then again, it's not Byakuya if he's being cheesy in front of his sister. :D

I've been waiting for some Bya/ruki interaction ever since Byakuya was introduced. While chapter 179 was beautiful, it was mainly Byakuya flashbacking (but ofcourse the hand holding scene deserves an award )

Also, there is this official novel called "the honey dish rapsody" that was published a while back and focuses on Rukia , who after the SS events want's to cook something for Byakuya , who is still recovering.The best part is that Kubo Tite made the illustrations for the novel, so that probably makes it canon

I know that translating an entire book is not exactly like translating the text for a manga chapter but if anyone ever did do this ....i would love them forever

I bought that book in December 2006, a month after it came out in Japan. I didn't care if I couldn't read it, I just wanted the book that was written revolving around Byakuya and Rukia. I wish Kubo drew a lot more of Rukia and Byakuya though. Ah well, at least he's making up for it now!

Wah! I want to join! I use to hate him with PASSION in the beginning of the Bleach story. How can he ignore my daughter Rukia for 40 yrs??!! And threatening to kill her with his own hands AGHHH! I'll kill him with my own FEET if he was real! But after learning his lesson towards the end of the SS arc his transformation shocked me. While I do agree with you whole heartedly, asking more of him would be inhuman. As a Kuchiki he must neglect himself completely and I think Rukia knows that.Nah, it isn't really inhuman to expect more (just hopeful I think :p), inhuman is the way that the Kuchiki nobles expect him to conduct himself, by acting all cold and distant and stuff and stifling all his emotions. (Those meanies! :yell But... they probably aren't the only reason why he's so... stiff.) And I know that Rukia knew of this kind of treatment too, because being adopted into the Kuchiki house, she was subjected to the same codes of conduct and expectations too (Renji even reminds her of them at her capture), and she conformed to them, but not completely. (Otherwise she wouldn't be the passionate and loud-mouthed midget we all know and love. :D)
She also knows that it was not what HE TRULY wanted (when he proclaimed that he will kill her with his own hands), it what was expected of him from Soul Society that bore and raised him.
I'm not quite sure about Byakuya not really wanting to kill Rukia, to me it seemed that he felt that he had no other choice but to kill her/let her die. In Ch115, I think that he would've killed both her and Hanatarou on the bridge in front of the Repentance Cell right then and there, had Ukitake not come in and interfered. It wasn't until Ichigo defeated him and told him that if he were in the same position, he'd ignore the rules, that Byakuya found that that he did indeed have a choice in the matter, and that he didn't have to kill his sister. Even if it wasn't what Byakuya truly wanted, I don't get the impression that she knew this, and she also had no way of knowing, since his actions to her always spoke otherwise. She had no idea that he had to break the rules in the first place to marry Hisana, and adopt her into the Kuchiki family. When she was speaking to Renji, she tells him that her brother is the type of person who'd rather handle her execution himself. (Ch59) And then there's that scene when she's about to be executed, and she notices how he looks away from her as he passes, when she's about to be executed by Soukyoku. It's clearly a look/expression of regret from him, but she completely misinterprets it. (Ch150) Also, if she knew that her death wasn't what he truly wanted, she wouldn't have been so very surprised when Byakuya rescued her from Gin. She goes as far as to say, "Why did you save me?" (Ch177)

Oh yea, I also noticed something else about that chapter. Right after he rescues her from Gin, she seems to get over her shock pretty quickly, and instantly enters "protective sister" mode when she realizes that Aizen is beginning to approach them. At first she's afraid, and she knows she can't do anything, but she then holds her Nii-Sama close, and narrows her eyes (well, we only see one eye :p) in defiance (whatever it is, it's definitely not fear) when she notices that he's going over to finish them both. I'd like to see more of that from her, maybe we'll get that chance during the Byakuya vs. Le Roux fight. I'll say more on this later. :D

And then on his own free will he has clearly shown that he would protect Rukia with his life if necessary, doing so because he choosed to. I think that if she didn't know before that he did care for her, she does now after that confession of his, and I think it was hinted quite a lot of times that Rukia does seek something from him and that would be enough (as of NOW.)
Yea, Rukia definitely knows how much Byakuya cares for her now. I think before his saving her from Gin, all she wanted was for him to acknowledge her existence, and really look at her. And now that she got that, I'm not quite sure what she wants from him, or if she even knows.

Probably it's his approval, and for him to acknowledge that she can take care of herself. He sort of did that when he let her go to Hueco Mundo (albeit with Renji), and I hope that he doesn't regret that decision after seeing her unconscious. If he tries to shelter her and forbid her from going on missions later, she'll only come to resent him.
But honestly, i think it's time that someone does something for Byakuya. Was he ever TRULY happy?I think he was when he was with Hisana, and also after Rukia accepted his confession (more like, I'm happy that you're alive and I didn't have to kill you/see you die, and you don't hate me for it). Maybe she can cheer him up with her Chappy drawings? :p Eh, in order to make him happy in the first place, someone would have to know what makes him happy...:confused:
I think that's because he is a nobleman and that he was poisoned with that cold and uptight attitude since the very beginning of his life, perhaps he has no idea of how to show in a manner that won't remind him and her of his dead wife.

On the other hand, Hisana seemed very happy and content with the way he has been showing his love to her so i don't know. IMO, he just needs time.Yea, from the flashback at Hisana's death, Byakuya is clearly capable of expressing affection. I think Lady Scaper is right when she says that her death is a big reason (not just the whole, "training to be a noble" thing) why he's so emotionally cold. Perhaps he distanced himself from Rukia precisely because she reminded him of Hisana, and he didn't want to get too attached in fear that something bad would happen to her too?

Anyway, I think it's the wrong way to go about things, because if something bad did happen to Rukia (oops, too late) he'd regret not spending more time with her sooner. Hopefully seeing her injured on the floor will help him realize that.
I think she secretly wishes for him to be proud of her too, but they are both way too stubborn and don't let it how. After all, Rukia isn't exactly an individual who would how her soft side around often. But the way she acts around Byakuya is unmistakably different from how she acts around her nakama. very interesting thing indeed! :)
I don't think it's that big of a secret. ;) She acts different around Byakuya or while mentioning him because she idolizes him and looks up to him. She's respectful towards those she's supposed to respect (Gin being the exception :p), and everyone else she considers to be on equal footing with her. She was never really fond of the whole class distinction thing, since she's experienced both life as a peasant and life as a noble.
I think this gives Byakuya a major deja vu (Hisana's death) and it would be pretty interesting to see his reactions if Unohana had ... eh... "difficulties" with healing Rukia. To see him finally crack up would be awesome in my opinion. :)
You're probably right about Rukia's situation reminding him of Hisana's death, although I don't think that Unohana's going to have any difficulty healing her. That is, if Unohana ever gets to her in the first place. It seems she's about to be busy with the Exequias Squad and healing Chad for quite a while.

Either she'll stay unconscious the whole time and get healed later, or she'll regain consciousness on her own. If (and it's a big, huge, "if") she regains consciousness during the battle, even though I'm almost certain (about 70% certain) that her Nii-Sama could handle the Espada by himself, she'd still want to help him, and will probably try her hardest to find some way to do it. (And maybe we'll get to see what Shirayuki looks like.) Her biggest regret is not helping/saving Kaien in the first place, and after her fight with Aaroniero/Kaien and remembering the words he told her about heart, I doubt she'll care anymore for her Captain's "no interference" policy for fights to protect life or honor. For all we know, it might end up taking a combined effort to beat Le Roux. (Yes, this is where the other 30% goes :p)

Sure, Byakuya would most likely be against it at first, but all she'd have to tell him to convince him is that Aaroniero had Kaien's spirit body, and that she was finally able to put him to rest; and that she's not going to just stand by and do nothing when a loved one is in danger, ever again.

Oh I agree! I doubt the issue will be brought up until they are safely back in Soul Society though. I'd love to see that Byakuya would soften up and actually let Rukia become a seated officer because of this, she'd clearly deserve it. It would make her happy and make him proud.
If Byakuya relents, she'll probably become the 13th Squad's Vice-Captain. It's most likely the reason for Ukitake to keep the position open for such a long time. (According to Aizen in Ch170, Captains can nominate their own subordinates) She'd definitely deserve it, since she managed to hold her ground (even when severely emotionally and mentally traumatized) against Aaroniero, who had all of Kaien's skills, powers, and experiences, and he was one of the best VCs in the 13 Court Guard Squads. Not only that, she killed him even after he revealed/released his true form.

You're very welcome! :D Yea, someone mentioned in the Rukia FC (or was it the IchiRuki one?) that there was a Radio Kon in Blade Battlers 2 that featured the Kuchikis and a Sode no Shirayuki/Sebonzakura combined attack to make Kon into an ice sculpture, and I just had to see it. (I'd love to see the combination in an actual battle though!)

I pretty much got the same gist of it as you did, that Kon insulted Byakuya and then Rukia got pissed at him too. Some of the funnier things are "blink and you miss it". There's a moment when Byakuya deflects Kon when he tries to jump on Rukia, she makes her, "Wah! My Nii-Sama is so cool!" face when he speaks for the first time (it seems like she was answering all the questions for the both of them until that time, and he doesn't speak again until Kon starts insulting him and he draws Sebonzakura), and then there's the combined insulted grunt of Byakuya with the irritated growl of Rukia. It seems like one sound at first, but then you realize that it starts off with him, and ends with her. :)
You Know I always wondered if Byakuya would have gone through with it had he managed to defeat Ichigo. Would he have been able to finish the job. I'm pretty sure he was breaking apart on the inside while standing there and watching her get executed, I honestly don't think he would gone through with it.
Also one of my expectations for these new developments is that Byakuya finds out that the Espada Rukia fought had the form of Kaien. I'm quite sure he knew what he meant to her and be angered for the emotional wound they gave her too.
I answered all of this somewhere up there ^^^^^^. :p To summarize, if he defeated Ichigo, I think he might have gone through with it, since it was Ichigo that finally convinced him that he didn't have to follow the rules. But thank goodness it never came down to that! :eek:

(well, I think it's interesting ;)) According to Ju-Ni's translation of #298, on page 20, with the panel of an injured Rukia, Byakuya is asks Zomari, "Are you the one who fought with that?" Syn even had it confirmed with the translators in this post. (http://bleachasylum.com/showpost.php?p=110631&postcount=545)

So the question is, why is he being so cold/informal with her again, especially since they seem to have patched things up after the SS arc?

Do you think it's because it's just the way he is, and it's his nobility talking; is he trying to distance himself because he might think that Rukia getting injured is his own fault? Is he ashamed of her because he trusted her to handle things on her own, and yet she still got injured? Or is he putting up a cold front because he believes that the enemy doesn't deserve to know, or is it just strategy, so Zomari wouldn't know her relation to him, and target her to distract him in the fight?

Also, do you think that Rukia heard him refer to her as "that", or do you think she's still unconscious and therefore didn't hear it?

If she were unconscious, it wouldn't matter. But if she were awake... (she seemed awake in Ch297) hopefully she'd ignore it, if she already knows how her brother is, but maybe it could also register as another kick to her self-esteem/worth, if she ends up ashamed of herself for letting her Nii-Sama down and ending up in such a condition. Her face is visible in #297, and she was at least semi-conscious, but in #298, she's facing down again. Perhaps she saw Byakuya arrive/heard his comment, and turned her head away?

At least Unohana seems to have scared away the Exequias, and could be on her way to them now to heal her. If Rukia does end up down in the dumps, maybe seeing her brother fighting will help her get over it?

I wanna see 'em actually talk to each other, but it looks like it's going to take a while before they do. The fight looks like it might take a while. :yell

"That"?...Ouch! Byakuya, you heartless #%$^*$%. Be thankful that our love (and Rukia's) is unconditional and we exept you with all your flaws :D. Although I agree that it's a pretty cold choice of words ,I think it has more to do with his speech patterns than with what he was actually thinking.
I'm sure that Rukia is pretty used to that attitude of his by now and I doubt she'd feel hurt by it. Besides, I think the same thing can be said about Rukia herself. I've frequently heard her use the word "kisama" ( transl:"you bastard" or just a very rude way of saying "you" ) when addressing someone and often in a situation where the other didn't really deserve it.
But to be honest I think that "the look" Byakuya gave LeRoux after he said that he was about to finish the job ,was more than enough to make up for that remark. Yes, my friends, "the look" betrayed is true feelings.

Also, I think Rukia is pretty much dead to the world right now and I prefer it that way ,cause it would make the reunion all that much more interesing. :D

Wasn't JuNi the only one that translated it like that? I thought the others translated it with "did that to her" or something. I don't think Byakuya would be that cold. As Michsi said, his look said more about what he's feeling. If anything, action speaks louder than words. LOL, he's going to swallow his pride to use a technique by Yoruichi in the current chapter, all for the sake of Rukia. That's love man! :D

As far as I know JuNi is the best Bleach scanlation group there is and thy're translations are the most accurate. For example a while back I had a question regarding the translation of the phrase and it turned out that JuNi's was the correct one and people had given me more examples as to why they are the best. And honestly I don't see it past Byakuya to use words like that even when referring to people he cares about 'cause , you know, he not
supposed to care :D Emotions are for the weak bla, bla, bla...

True. Being the most powerful Kuchiki out of all he was bound to have it hard, since everyone had such hopes for him. He probably had to neglect himself in order to live up to what was expected of him...

Yes, I always though that he turns away and closes his eyes, because it's simply too painful for him to watch. After all, his eyes are very expressive at times. :)

Well if I was Rukia, I would actually feel a bit guilty. I mean, all of this happened for HER sake and it was for her sake that her brother was willing to die in the end. Guilty without guilt, so to speak. :)

Yeah, I consider myself as a fan who has a good understanding of his character, but I can't answer that question. Nothing materialistic, that is for sure. :)

But I have to disagree with you about being truly happy though. It's apparent he loved Hisana with all of his hart, and she was not able to return that. The worst part, he knew that. (You know, when he was explaining to Rukia "even after she became my wife, she NEVER stopped searching for you"It just seems to me that Rukia was always there between them, not allowing Hisana to give Byakuya what he gave to her. :)

The way I like to explain that is the reason that despite not really knowing her, he did not want to burden her with the remaining love for Hisana who left him all too early. I think JuNi has by the far worst translations, just on the very page in question, they translate everything too literally.

Leroux responds with "It was not I."

I mean, even as non-native English speaker, I can tell this is terribly translated.

"I wasn't the one" sounds so much better, does it not? I highly doubt anyone would respond in the matter that Leroux supposedly did.

Now, I'm not trying to blind myself, because I truly believe that is a faulty translation.

If Byakuya did not care for Rukia, why would he ask if Leroux did that to her? He clearly stated before he approached Rukia, that Leroux is his enemy, and that is ALL he needs to know as a shinigami, isn't it? ;) If he was just his enemy, Byakuya would not need the answer to his question. It wouldn't be so obvious, even to Leroux (who could tell that Byakuya IS trying to save Rukia), if he refered to her as "that". He isn't that cruel, really he isn't. Not even to hide his feelings for her by degrading. That look in his eyes tells clearly that he IS affected by this.
Even the fact that he was disrobed and fights without his captain's haori is another way of symbolism that shows that to me (as I mentioned in Byakuya FC I think), shows that he fights as a man and her brother, not for him, but for her.

I can only hope that the upcoming chapters will prove this, as spoilers say Leroux will use Rukia to defeat Byakuya. I have a feeling he will bleed to save her life, again. :)

Awesome post, diamondedge! I think LeRoux is making a mistake by using Rukia to get at Byakuya. If anything that will fire up Byakuya even more. But I agree, Byakuya's going to bleed for Rukia again. The good thing is Hanatarou is there to heal them both. It will be so sweet to see them interact after. Makes me wish Kubo would speed up the fight so we can get to Rukia and Byakuya interacting instead. I'm looking forward to that more than anything.

I so totally agree with the interaction. I want more than a few words exchanged between Rukia and Byakuya. Don't know if I mentioned it yet, but I sort of want Rukia to say to Byakuya that she's glad he's there because she won't die alone. Oh man, I hope Byakuya is holding Rukia in his arms then. That is so going to affect him totally.

Is is alright for me to say that Byakuya didn't get the love he deserved from Hisana? I don't fault her though because she was consumed with finding Rukia. In a way, it's why I see Rukia giving Byakuya the love her sister couldn't fully give. Hope that makes sense.

Welcome to the FC, ilovemybishies and Spinel Sun! Yeah we support ByaRuki whether it's just brother-sister love or full on Kuchikicest (my preference). XD I'm telling you I've been waiting for a chapter like this since Rukia blushed about her cape being given by Byakuya. She looked so adorable!

Regarding scanlation groups, I love them all 'cause I sort of download them all. :D I like seeing all the different translations anyway. I just started DLing from Franky House and they're pretty good.

I read that thread, I still think they fail.

If they translate everything literally, that doesn't make it a good translation.

The art of translating is being able to transform the original words into sentence that makes sense to the reader, not literally translating every word.

Let's not play scantalation wars, please? :o The fact of the matter is, all of those groups put a lot of effort into translating the manga for us, if not for them, all we'd be looking at are pictures with squiggly lines that might as well be some alien language (well, to those who can't read Japanese that is. :p)

"That"?...Ouch! Byakuya, you heartless #%$^*$%. Be thankful that our love (and Rukia's) is unconditional and we exept you with all your flaws :D. Although I agree that it's a pretty cold choice of words ,I think it has more to do with his speech patterns than with what he was actually thinking.
I'm sure that Rukia is pretty used to that attitude of his by now and I doubt she'd feel hurt by it. Besides, I think the same thing can be said about Rukia herself. I've frequently heard her use the word "kisama" ( transl:"you bastard" or just a very rude way of saying "you" ) when addressing someone and often in a situation where the other didn't really deserve it.
I don't know if Rukia would ever get used to the ice-cold attitude, but I think she does understand the reason for it a little better now. After she was taken back to Soul Society to be executed, from the way she told Renji that Byakuya had never looked at her since the time she was adopted into the Kuchiki family, it seemed she was somewhat crushed by his frosty demeanor before. I think being ignored like that again would definitely sting her a bit.

I don't think she gives off the same impression as her brother when she insults people, only when she's pulling the whole "Kuchiki noble" act. :p When Byakuya insults someone, it's because he thinks they're inferior or beneath him. When Rukia insults someone, it's because she thinks they should know better than to do something she perceives to be stupid, it's more her "Rukongai Street Rat" streak shining through, than her being all, "you're not worthy enough to speak to me."

I'd imagine that Byakuya and the other Kuchiki nobles were cowed by her crass behaviorisms and tried their best to rid her of them. It's a good thing that they didn't fully succeed. :D
But to be honest I think that "the look" Byakuya gave LeRoux after he said that he was about to finish the job ,was more than enough to make up for that remark. Yes, my friends, "the look" betrayed is true feelings.
That part is obvious. Byakuya is definitely pissed off that someone wants to off his darling little sister. :yay
Also, I think Rukia is pretty much dead to the world right now and I prefer it that way ,cause it would make the reunion all that much more interesing. :D
I don't see how her being out of it would make things more interesting. Regardless of what was really said or not, I think my observation of Rukia turning her head away from Byakuya, for whatever reason (possibly shame), still stands. Both in Ch297 and 299, Kubo has her clearly facing to the side, but in that panel in Ch298 when Byakuya makes his comment (whatever it may be), she's facing directly down. Since we've been seeing her from the same angle in all 3 shots (the floor :yell), there's no reason to change the view of her face, unless he intended to draw attention to it. (Or maybe he's being inconsistent)

Here's how I'd interpret the 3 different times we see her:In Ch297, when Zomari is thinking about giving her the final blow, she's beginning to wake up, with a pained/anguished look in her eyes. Ch298, her Nii-Sama shows up, but she can't bear to have him see her like that, so she turns her head away from him. And in 299, things are starting to get tense, and she begins mulling over Zomari's words that it'd be pointless to try and save her.

Who knows if anything will come out of that, but I'd hate to see her just lie there like an expressionless lump while all that drama's gong on, and with Zomari now taking control of Byakuya, and Hanatarou being there too, I don't think her current position as a floor mat is going to last much longer.

Oh, that makes me wonder, how did he fight for their place in the family?
He said himself "I pushed past everyone's opposition", I bet it would be awesome to see him verbally defending Rukia's place (especially when the latest news of his reference came out, shesh).
I imagine he did it by being stoic and saying as few words as possible, since I can't picture him begging or pleading for anything, or demanding anything either. He probably walked up cool and collected to the elders and sternly announced, "I am going to take Hisana as my wife/adopt Rukia as my sister", gave them his patented glare of doom, and simply ignored all cries of protest until he had his way. It just seems like the type of thing that he'd do. :D
Well if I was Rukia, I would actually feel a bit guilty. I mean, all of this happened for HER sake and it was for her sake that her brother was willing to die in the end. Guilty without guilt, so to speak. :)

But I am sure she has thought of this, if she is really only a promise to his dead wife and her shadow, or did he save her because he cared for her?

Yes, I think it was clear that she felt guilty for her brother getting hurt for her sake (she doesn't want anyone to get hurt for her sake), and I still think she was surprised that he went and risked his life for her. And I do believe she does know now that he saved her because he cares about her, and not only because she's his wife's sister/resembles her.
Yeah, I consider myself as a fan who has a good understanding of his character, but I can't answer that question. Nothing materialistic, that is for sure. :)
Haha, maybe a game should be started in the Byakuya FC, "What chapter will Byakuya smile in, and what/who will make him happy?"
But I have to disagree with you about being truly happy though. It's apparent he loved Hisana with all of his hart, and she was not able to return that. The worst part, he knew that. (You know, when he was explaining to Rukia "even after she became my wife, she NEVER stopped searching for you"It just seems to me that Rukia was always there between them, not allowing Hisana to give Byakuya what he gave to her. :)

My take on that anyway, I apologize if I offended your opinion in any way.

The way I like to explain that is the reason that despite not really knowing her, he did not want to burden her with the remaining love for Hisana who left him all too early. Byakuya IS a gentleman, after all and doesn't wish anyone harm. In a way, I think he was sort of protecting her from himself, if you know what I mean.

Offend my opinion? Gaw, heck no. ;) I like discussions like this too, and I don't mind being proven wrong if someone has legitimate reasons backing their own observations.

Perhaps I shouldn't have used the word "truly". :o But I do think that he was happy with her, to some extent. It's funny in a tragic and slightly twisted way, but Rukia was in the way from Hisana truly loving Byakuya, and now Hisana is in the way of Byakuya truly getting to know/fully care for Rukia. Oh, the drama! :eek:

It would be a real cliche if that happened... :p But lately Bleach has been very predictable, so I don't exclude that option.

I'd prefer her waking in the 4th division headquarters, with Unohana by his side and asks who is the one that saved her, even that deep inside, she'll probably know. :)
Cliche? I don't think so. :p Byakuya saved her, so I think it's only fair that she help him out, and it looks like it might happen if he can't break out of Zomari's control. She's showed her own protectiveness for him before, when she held him close and stared Aizen down despite the fact that she was powerless when he was about to move in for the kill. She's definitely fond of her Nii-Sama, from that infamous blushing scene in Ch247.

I've wanted something big to happen between the siblings, ever since that wonderful rescue from Gin in chapter 177, and a Kuchiki team up would be rock, IMHO. :cool: Zomari can only control what he can see, and Sebonzakura is great for reducing visibility, but if Byakuya can't draw his zanpakuto while being controlled, one of the only other options I can see, aside from him doing something drastic and injuring himself so he couldn't hurt her, is complete white-out from a blizzard-like attack, courtesy of Rukia and Sode no Shirayuki. If she doesn't get up under her own power, there's Hanatarou there on hand to help. We've already seen a double team battle from Ichigo/Uruyuu, Ichigo/Renji, Renji/Uruyuu, Yoruichi/Soifon, Tousen/Konamura, and Shunshui/Ukitake, so it's only fair that Byakuya team up with someone else too, and who better than his own little sister? I know I've said it before, but I like it so much I'll say it again; snow+sakura petals would be an awesome visual, and very effective in a fight, 2 zanpakutos with area-affecting abilities would mean that the opponent would have nowhere to run, no matter how fast he may be. :wtf

Well, they aren't really robes, just the arm band with the badge for the division. :p But maybe she'd actually personalize her Shinigami outfit, perhaps with something similar to the cape she wore to Hueco Mundo, or maybe a Chappy accesory. :D

Of course he'd congratulate her, but he'd probably only go as far as to say, "good job", and leave it at that. But I think she'd know that he'd actually be very proud of her.
Now AS FOR THE CHAPTER 298 TRANSLATION!

I think JuNi has by the far worst translations, just on the very page in question, they translate everything too literally.

Leroux responds with "It was not I."

I mean, even as non-native English speaker, I can tell this is terribly translated.

"I wasn't the one" sounds so much better, does it not? I highly doubt anyone would respond in the matter that Leroux supposedly did.

Now, I'm not trying to blind myself, because I truly believe that is a faulty translation.

If Byakuya did not care for Rukia, why would he ask if Leroux did that to her? He clearly stated before he approached Rukia, that Leroux is his enemy, and that is ALL he needs to know as a shinigami, isn't it? ;) If he was just his enemy, Byakuya would not need the answer to his question. It wouldn't be so obvious, even to Leroux (who could tell that Byakuya IS trying to save Rukia), if he refered to her as "that". He isn't that cruel, really he isn't. Not even to hide his feelings for her by degrading. That look in his eyes tells clearly that he IS affected by this.
I know that Byakuya isn't cruel, just cold, and that he really does care for Rukia. What I was trying to get at is, his words and actions are probably just an act to give Zomari the impression that he doesn't care for her. Why should he let the enemy know something that he could possibly use against him in a fight? He could also be acting coldly because he thinks it's his fault that Rukia's hurt, because he allowed her to go in the first place, and that it does remind him a bit of Hisana.

What might seem apparent to us, the readers, wouldn't be very apparent to Rukia either. We know he came there with the intent to rescue Rukia because he cares about her. While Rukia might appreciate the gesture, like I said before, she might be ashamed of the fact that her brother let her go, and instead of coming back safely, she got horribly injured in the process, and has to be rescued, again.
Even the fact that he was disrobed and fights without his captain's haori is another way of symbolism that shows that to me (as I mentioned in Byakuya FC I think), shows that he fights as a man and her brother, not for him, but for her.
Yea, it's as if his concern for her is causing his icy-cold demeanor to defrost, and we'll able to see his emotions more clearly than ever before. (Maybe that's what the ice melting from the walls means :p) It'd be nice seeing the more sentimental side to Byakuya again, it's about time, too.
I can only hope that the upcoming chapters will prove this, as spoilers say Leroux will use Rukia to defeat Byakuya. I have a feeling he will bleed to save her life, again. :)

Ah, but I don't think she's going to take him bleeding for her lying down, not if there's anything she can do about it. And Hanatarou's there to help her! :D I'm pretty sure that after her fight with Aaroniero and remembering what she went through with Kaien, she's not going to sit by and watch someone she loves get hurt, ever again.

Awesome post, diamondedge! I think LeRoux is making a mistake by using Rukia to get at Byakuya. If anything that will fire up Byakuya even more. But I agree, Byakuya's going to bleed for Rukia again. The good thing is Hanatarou is there to heal them both. It will be so sweet to see them interact after. Makes me wish Kubo would speed up the fight so we can get to Rukia and Byakuya interacting instead. I'm looking forward to that more than anything.
Aww, you don't think that the fight will eventually lead to a Kuchiki team up against Zomari? :o Will his love for his sister overcome the "amor" of LeRoux's released state? I really don't think that Rukia's just going to sit on the sidelines and let her pumpkin-controlled brother kill her, or hurt himself so he doesn't end up hurting her. But I agree, interaction between them would be much appreciated right now, whether or not they're fighting side-by-side, or just having a conversation once the fight is over, and everything has been said and done. She'd have to tell someone about Aaroniero, and how she was able to finally put Kaien's spirit to rest.
I so totally agree with the interaction. I want more than a few words exchanged between Rukia and Byakuya. Don't know if I mentioned it yet, but I sort of want Rukia to say to Byakuya that she's glad he's there because she won't die alone. Oh man, I hope Byakuya is holding Rukia in his arms then. That is so going to affect him totally.
That'd devastate him, and I hope it never comes to that, since he'd probably break down and cry since it'd remind him of Hisana dying. :cry I don't think it will, since I'm sure that if he's able to get out of the control of Zomari, he'd put up sufficient cover with Sebonzakura for Hanatarou to heal Rukia. He'd never let it get that far.
Is is alright for me to say that Byakuya didn't get the love he deserved from Hisana? I don't fault her though because she was consumed with finding Rukia. In a way, it's why I see Rukia giving Byakuya the love her sister couldn't fully give. Hope that makes sense.
