Hentai is just a different preference. Some, like me, are fine with both, though will prefer one to the other. It's like we all try to avoid/not talk about somethings that are widely universal. (see George Carlin for more on that). Not surprising though. Aside from some of the most insane plot situations, hentai does not have to be considered perverted. It's what the viewer is doing while watching it that makes it perverted or not. More importantly, some of the funniest animes I have seen are very ecchi. So, some "adult" anime series can be tasteful despite the presence of sexuality and odd character designs.
