Smartest Main character

I'd like to know who people think is the smartest main character, by smart i mean comming up with solutions to a unprepared situation?

Also which suport Characters would you call the smartest ones?


For Main Characters:
I'd say Kuzumi Taiga from Mx0, again and again he turn bad situations into good ones, some by luck though.


For support characters:
Ishida(Bleach) & Kurama(YuYu) would be the first to come to mind.


Would be nice finding out about more.

Support- Shikamaru from naruto, Ishida from bleach, and Kurama from YYH, and Bulma from DB.

Still it's very diffrent kind of smart to Kuzumi since Kuzumi is more physically challenging where as Raito(like that name better) is an expert in reading other people.

Well, Light is the obvious answer for me. XD

As far as shounen fighting manga go though, I'll say Taikoubou from Houshin Engi. His ability to outwit his opponents and take advantage of their weaknesses is among the best in the world of shounen protagonists. :)

The lesser-known Kyoya Iida from the manga Jiraishin/Ice Blade is a damn clever detective. Perhaps not the mastermind as Light from Death Note, but I feel Light's character is a bit too smart and it feels so unreal. Iida is far more realistic. Then again, it's just manga.

I can't believe so few mentioned Taikoubou from Houshin Engi! I love you, Peachilicious! My list follows:

Taikoubou from Houshin Engi: Almost every fight in the novel requires his brains in one way or another. His only rival, brain-wise, in the manga, is himself. Literally. XD

Yagami Raitou from Death Note: No doubting this man's intelligence. He plots like Aizen and changes tactics like no others.

All the leads from Detective genre manga are pretty smart: Shinichi (Conan) from Detective Conan, Narumi from Spiral, the main leads from 20th Century Boys and Monster, etc.

Hm... Lelouch is portrayed as smart in the anime (I've only watched the anime), but his ploys never surprised me, so I don't know.

Well I'll have to say Kira or Light. One of the greaest main characters ever made. He was just so darn determined on becoming "GOD". He was really something else. Heheh. Well he's my pick.

Haha I agree. The original L is smarter than Light, he just had let his emotions get in the way of not suspecting Light any further. Light is the 2nd runner up. Also, Golden Boy is a genius. Balsa from Seirei No Moribito is smart as well :3

I know he's not necessarily book-smart (his class standing isn't high, IIRC) and I'm not even sure if he falls under the smart being asked here but for sheer . . . range of knowledge, I'd like to nominate Kyon from The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi series as an Exceptionally Smart Main Character.

Now for support characters, i say Uchiha Sasuke and Ishida Uryuu (what a coincidence same seiyuu :D). Nothing much to say about Sasuke, but Ishida is prolly the most useful support character in bleach :p. Even if he lost his powers at some point, he didnt lose his intelligence which proved to be very useful to the group :wtf

yes, I couldn't agree more that Light is smart. I actually like that they made Light impatient and foolish at the beginning to show his childlikeness and his sense of justice(?). He's just a 17 years old and lack of experiences. He show so much naiveness in book 1 and actually believe his own actions as justice and his desire to be God.

Yeah, yeah, Light and L for the win, Shikamaru for Naruto's first prize...but these are all characters who are portrayed as smart from the get-go. Other characters label them as "geniuses" and so on. Are there any characters who we can figure out are smart and gifted or super-street smart without having it rubbed in our faces every time we read the story?

@Tatsuki: There are probably quite a few, but they're obviously less obvious so you won't see them named quite as often as Light (like Goku who's surprisingly battle-smart given his IQ of 12 or so).
