28th generation of the famous noble Kuchiki family
The hair piece on his head are called the "Kenseikaan". It's a headdress only only nobles use. It works by putting hair through hole in the side of the tube-like structure.
The scarf is passed down through generations to be worn by successors of the family name. Made by Fujishiro Kurourumon the Third, it's called the "Ginpakukazaharu no Usugime". The scarf is worth enough money to build 10 houses.
Favourite things: a walk during the night and spicy food.

Graduate of the 2066th year of the Shinigami School. Was first placed in 5th Division, but because of his strength, he was moved to the 11th Division. One month before Rukia's arrest, he was promoted to be vice-captain of the Sixth Division.
Very unique eye brow. Most probably a tattoo.
Favourite food is teriyaki. And dislikes spicy food.

I think the admins got the forum back up and running just in time. With a bit of luck we'll probably see some RR stuff after Kubo finishes with Isshin. Or do you think Kubo will simply skip over the rest of the recovery and training? :hm

I don't know........ Knowing Kubo, they'll both just show up during round 2 of the war, ready to kick some ass without us seeing the training. XD I've been hoping he'll return to RR with a glimpse of Renji training/re-connecting with Zabimaru and Byakuya recovering/training. I really miss them.

After Isshin/Ryukken/Masaki history, I feel it may gear towards Uryuu and the Quincy's?

So much to cover! We still don't know how to get the Bankai's back. D:

That would be so typical of Kubo not to show the training. We should at least get a few peeks though unless we're going to be deprived of finding out why the other two Royal Guards are important. I am still hoping one of them is the kidou inventor to give some tips to Byakuya and Rukia.

Kubo has a few options for what's next after Isshin. I think a peek at the RR is in order before moving back to the main story (nope, not biased at all here). The important thing though is that Renji's bankai is being repaired, and if there's a way to retrieve Senbonzakura, it will happen.

Perhaps if Renji helps Byakuya think enough happy thoughts, he can get his bankai back? :heehee

I wish it was Rukia who ran off with Ichigo and our guys stayed together. XD I mean, she was conscious before she was sent to the RR anyway, then Kubo changed his mind to have her unconscious instead. :/

Hot springs aren't for bathing as such; it's for soaking. I would hope someone would hose Renji off before he got in the hot spring again. But surely he has sore muscles that need soothing? :fu

Battle partners! :elmo Yeah, he's got Byakuya, so as long as he has his basic kidou under control he should be fine. Let Byakuya handle the heavy kidou. We need to see at least a token training session together, some small nod as a hint of good things to come.

I'll be pretty frusturated if they aren't together again for the rest of the manga. It took forever to get the moment we got with them side by side. Remember how they didn't see each other the entire time in HM? :(

I'm sure we'll see them together once we're done with Isshin's backstory. It looks like it's winding down. After that it's either RR checkup or HM checkup, the former seeming more likely in light of the Hollow stuff in the flashback. We need a break before diving back into Quincy/Hollow info I think.

So ... with Ichigo kicked out of the RR, what on earth was the point of taking the others to the RR? It's got to be something good, right?

I don't know. D: I'm wondering myself why they're there. The way Kubo writes makes things seem pointless in current time and the purpose is always revealed later; so I'm sure they're there with a valid reason. Whether it's "good" or "bad I haven't a clue.

I just hope Byakuya catches up with Renji in training. Renji's all by himself right now. :(

Yeah, Renji started to confess, but Ichigo interrupted. Byakuya has thawed nicely this arc. His struggle to protect Renji's bankai was probably the next best thing I can think of next to a confession. IMO things are progressing nicely.

It's Renji turn again, then. He gets to take the next step. Probably something to do with his bankai improvements? Larger, stronger, better -- and for because of Byakuya. :fu Alternately, it's his turn to protect Byakuya since Byakuya has now protected him twice. Kiss him already! As long as it doesn't involve a deathbed confession I'm good with it, though.

Don't know why I never thought of this, but I chat with quite a few fans of this pairing. Most of them are fic writers at Fanfiction.net and LJ; bloggers on LJ and tumblr; and members at Aarinfantasy Yaoi forums. As a matter of fact, one of the AarinFantasy members I know was a member here (old BA) and I caught her lurking our FC some months ago. I friended her and chatted with her here in PM's since she only had a couple small posts. I can make some rounds and invite them to join BA even if it's just for this FC. When I joined it was mostly for this FC, but now I participate almost everywhere. XD

Oh and one of them who writes ByaRen... Omg she's wonderful. She understands Renji and Byakuya as individual characters and as a couple. They are her OTP and she'd be perfect for this FC! If I had my laptop I'd copy paste a bit of our convo here just to show you her mindset of our guys. She completely understands the dynamics of their relationship. She's active in the fandom and says she's sticking with Bleach and RenByaRen til the end. :D

Well, I made some rounds last night. I invited the first 6 people I thought of. So far, only one replied, and agreed to join, but said she may not be active since she's been real busy latey. Understandable. I gave everyone links so they can at least lurk if they want. Hopefully, at least one of them will join us. *fingers crossed*

Yes. ByaRenBya isn't dead. Besides IchiRuki, I think they're the only other pairing that's had moments (2 of them!) in this arc. They actually have many many fans, but the thing is, some are more active in other parts of the fandom. Some spend most of their time on FF.net, LJ, tumblr, and deviantArt writting fics of our couple, blogging, and/or making art, leaving little time for them to participate here. Some probably just read the manga without participaitng in fandom at all. I know first hand this happens because I'm a member of many forums (even outside of anime/manga) and have yet to contribute a single post there. So, yea. It's not that no one cares for ByaRen, it's just that there's so many other places on the net whereone can find their niche and share their love for the pairing there. :)

Still hope they come here though. XD

What do I love about the pairing? Oh wow, I'd be here forever! I could literally write a full essay on all the reasons why I ship Byakuya and Renji, but I'll try and stay away from that particular outpouring of tl;dr and stick to the basics. :p

For me, this ship ultimately comes down to the dramatic contrast between Byakuya and Renji as characters, and the similarities between them that underlie the dramatic external differences. Both of them are passionate (to the point of being a little impetuous), willful and stubborn, essentially kind-hearted, fiercely protective of those they care about - and both of them have cared deeply about people they shouldn't, in defiance of all the rules and social customs that hold them back from those attachments. Both of them have gotten hurt because of it.

Paired together, they make each other better people. Each of them has had a consistent theme to their character development throughout the series. For Byakuya it's humility - it's learning that he's still just a man under all the power and prestige, that it's ok to care about others, that he can't hold himself completely apart from all the people around him. For Renji it's self-worth - his background sets him a lot of challenges, but it doesn't make him unfit to meet them, and it doesn't make him unworthy of the people he values. From opposite ends of a spectrum, they're both striving towards a more healthy middle ground - one where they can respect themselves and those around them without over- or under-valuing, and meet those they care about on a more even playing field. In other words, they are moving straight towards each other, and their respective strengths and weaknesses so elegantly complement each other that together they'd make headway like nothing they've ever achieved alone.

I love them together because they are funny - opening up possibilities for a whole world of comical misunderstandings and petty mishaps as they struggle to make sense of each other. I love them because they are infuriating, so emotionally stunted that half the time I wonder how they'd ever manage to talk to each other as partners. I love them because everything about them warms my heart, and the inevitable conflict and drama is balanced out by an honest ability to support each other and improve as people as a result of the effort and compromises their relationship would take.

Sorry if that's all a little long. I got kind of over-excited...I guess I have a lot of feelings about this pairing. XD

When one truly learns the depths of Byakuya and Renji, it's not difficult at all to understand why they are a perfect fit for each other. And they way they're past and connections have brought them together....much too beautiful to resist. *sniff*

So do you think them being a pairing will be implied by Kubo (more so than now XD).

I admit that I view their every interaction in the manga through unapologetic shipper goggles, so for me the pairing is pretty much guaranteed to be implied. I don't expect them to ever be remotely canon and I'm fine with that (it's half the fun), but I do hope Kubo will follow up with more of the camaraderie that showed through during the As Nodt fight. Having them both in the Soul Palace bodes well for that, I think. And it's so hard not to view their current situation through a shippy light. Byakuya has just been completely dismantled psychologically (as well as torn apart physically), in front of the person who has always believed in his power the most and put him on the highest pedestal - you telling me Renji shouldn't get to play a central role in putting him back together again, in the wake of such a humiliating defeat? It's only fair!

Renji was so crushed, lost, and desperate seeing his captain going down like that. The way he cries for the enemy to stop and calls him unworthy of wielding SBZ. A lot of intense emotion in those chapters. It's only right that they team up again, with a much better results this time. I'd also like a post war scene of them in the office together having a heart to heart. :heehee

Personally, I am rather grateful to Ichigo! By cutting off what was probably going to be a dramatic shounen-style speech about mentorship and self-betterment, he left me free to sub in high-flown confessions of passionate erotic desire in the privacy of my own over-active imagination. ;)

Nah, that wasn't anything about mentorship, not after "You are my reason for getting stronger". <== [reads too many cheesy romance manga, yep.]

It's also not anything about mentorship when Byakuya nearly got himself killed protecting Renji's bankai. That's above and beyond anything a mentor would do for his pupil. Yamamoto promptly challenged Sasakibe to fight him with that fresh new bankai, if you recall, and that damn well wasn't a student-teacher relationship there after Sasakibe refused to become his student because he wanted to stand at Yamamoto's side.

This pairing is the same way. They will get their bankai issues resolved to fight side by side, then have a quiet evening of privacy at Byakuya's manor or something equally "official" by the end of this series. :fu

Sasakibe's funeral.... Byakuya's speaking about Yamamoto and Sasakibe to Renji..... It wasn't just a coincidence that Kubo chose this scene for them. He was showing us parallels. Then the look of determination and loyalty on Renji's face spoke volumes; then Byakuya's shown in the very next panel. Add that to what happened just a few chapters later...... Renji will remain by Byakuya's side and of course, Byakuya wants him to. I mean, c'mon....he was totally turned on when Renji challenged him. Then SBZ bit Zabimaru. Then when their lover's quarrel ended and he threw Renji the scarf, it was his way of telling him "Well, that was fun; let's do it again sometime." :D

Well, it is part of his charm. :fu I suppose Byakuya will get used to being embarrassed but secretly turned on by Renji's lack of manners.

I figured Byakuya giving Renji his scarf was an open invitation to come visit to return it as soon as possible. It's not like their battle didn't practically constitute foreplay. "You can't touch me." "Oh yes I can. Riiight there. See?" "Very well, but I won't admit that I like it. So there." And thus Byakuya thawed -- at least as far as Renji is concerned.

With so much going on, and mysterious plot points which need unraveling, Kubo can go anywhere. Not to mention we haven't seen Uryu in forever. I guess Ichigo and his pops will have a chat? Really hard to say, considering the way Kubo bounces around, but I'm interested in the RR/RG and what more they have in store for Renji, Byakuya, and Rukia.

Right now, RR seems more pressing because of the Zanpakuto ordeal, select Shinigami healing and training bias, because Byakuya & Renji are my favorites and RG deemed them notable enough to be taken into such a sacred realm, and the SK. :p

Well, let's see: Byakuya was married for 5 years. How old/young do you think he was when he married? Then how long did it take, after Hisana's death, to find Rukia? If I remember correctly it wasn't long; maybe a year to find her at Shino (or did I just make that up?)

8 years between ByaRen seem about right. I always imagined Renji being between 20-23 and Byakuya 29-32 in human years. For the record, 32 is still considered young (for the teens who think 30's are old :rolleyes:). Byakuya just doesn't fit 20's to me because of his demeanor, and him having experienced marriage, but he passes for 20's in looks. Renji was one of those awkward looking teens and became hot with age. He's still young though, just looks more like a sex god mature now.

If I recall correctly, Byakuya found Rukia -- and met Renji -- the following spring after Hisana died.

It's probably something in the 6 to 8 year range for apparent age difference. Byakuya was a gawky teenager 100 years ago when Renji was about 8-ish. Then 50 years ago Byakuya was briefly married while Renji and Rukia were young teenagers. So that seems about right. Older, but not old. As Byakuya observed at Sasakibe's funeral, they are both so very young compared to Yamamoto and the other captains.

Why I like this pairing? Well, tbh they just look so good together (both are super hot). I like the contrast between them. They complete each other.

We don't need this to be a strictly yaoi manga. He gives us enough fanservice to play with, and we know he doesn't draw things he himself does not like. We will get our happy ending for them by the end of series. :D

Weeeeelll, I prefer Kubo not to create yaoi manga about Bleach. I like the setting they're in; there's no focus on romantic feelings, but the subtle implications leave a lot for us to play with. ;) Not much of a yaoi fan, honestly. :p

I also think after all this backstory, the idea that there's no focus on romance in Bleach is a bit silly. If Kubo wants to put some romance in, he will -- and has, even if it is het. Renji's interrupted confession was quite blatant; usually when that happens in manga it means the "real" confession is coming along in a more opportune place and time. Knowing that, I can be patient.

It won't be any worse than it has been. It's not like the sexual content thus far is non-existant. Kon jumping at every pretty girl, and Masaki's friend commenting that Ishida-senpai makes her hot. That sort of thing. It's not the main focus, but it is always there and always will be there. All that's changed is having it couched as romance instead of random sex. I think it's a nice change, personally.

Now if Kubo could see clear to let Renji finish that confession or have Byakuya invite Renji to stay the night ... :fu

I've always liked the way Kubo handles both romantic and lustful feelings (all kinds of relationships and feeling, really), I was just opposed to going the yaoi route that was mentioned. I like that he doesn't focus on romance, but still gives us something to let us know it's there.

I wonder if that confession will ever be complete. Kubo should place them together with more fight scenes supporting each other, and possibly some panels in the epilogue with Renji and Byakuya at Kuchiki manor, or in the office, exchanging some, short but sweet, "heartfelt" words. XD Simply having more panels together would show they indeed are together and that the confession has been fully confessed. XD

.....or how about a panel where Rukia or Ichigo opens the door to Byakuya's office or room. Byakuya and Renji are standing with bodies facing each other, but not too close, and with heads turned to the intruder because they've been interrupted in whatever they were doing/about to do. They would totally play it cool though--no blushing and stammering (as if Byakuya would do that). It's one of those scenes where those of us who ship will see it, but non shippers won't (or they'll just deny). I swear, if this happens they have Kubo's seal of approval for sure. they already do. XD

We definitely need more scenes of them together -- and probably more interruptions. That's always a good flag that there's "something" going on between two characters if they keep getting interrupted just when things start getting interesting.

Renji would totally be blushing and upset if he got interrupted again. :p Byakuya has enough sangfroid to not blush, but Renji would. And then we know, because why blush if they're chatting about work, hmm?

Yep, interruptions are definitely a sign. I don't remember Renji blushing the first time he was interrupted, but he was indeed upset and wasn't afraid to tell Ichigo why. XD

No, he wasn't blushing just then. He should have been though. He certainly had no problem telling Ichigo off for interrupting. I think that's probably the cutest scene between Renji and Byakuya. Not the most dramatic or intense, but definitely cute that he's perturbed at Ichigo for barging on while he was telling Byakuya about how he would have no reason to get stronger without him.

I really wonder what exactly he was about to say. A nice traditional "I need to get stronger so I can protect you"? It's cheesy, but it's something I badly want to hear him say, especially now that Byakuya has protected him twice.

Exactly. If Renji doesn't protect Byakuya, who will? Moreover, he not only needs to give Byakuya a reason to live, he needs to give Byakuya a reason to fight to regain his powers. They can train together.

Forget the whole idea of Renji taking over as captain. I seriously doubt he'll willingly leave Byakuya's side. He needs to use his powers where it is most important to him, and what could be more important than protecting the person most important to him?

Yep. I think the talk Renji had with Ikkaku about becoming Captain or staying with Kenpachi, and then the talk at Sasakibe's funeral was telling us that Renji ain't goin no where. XD

It gets a little irritating when fans think that just because Renji has bankai of course he wants to be captain. Sasakibe never left his captain. Ikkaku is fully intent on dying under Zaraki's command. Why can't Renji simply remain where he is? He is far too loyal to consider leaving, especially when he's running off to urge Ikkaku to become captain instead of trying to gain the position for himself. His choice has been made for a while now: he will remain where he is, forever.

He may have worked his way up to VC to become fit to approach Rukia, but that doesn't mean he hasn't re-set his sights onto the other Kuchiki sibling in the meantime. He is happy where he is, and Byakuya has no intention of dismissing him. Now that they have had some time to work together, things should be progressing for them in a not-uncommon fashion. All he needs to do is finish up his current training so he can go fuss over Byakuya's recovery (and Rukia's, since she's his best friend and all, I'm sure he's worried about her too since Kubo knocked her out again).

Fans tend to miss the signs that Renji won't be captain. It's not difficult to see that Renji wanted to surpass Byakuya out of bitterness over Byakuya adopting Rukia and thinking he wasn't worth being near her unless he was a man of Byakuya standards; but those negative feelings have long since pasted. Even if Renji were to become captain, it doesn't necessarily mean he has surpassed Byakuya. They forget Byakuya is still a noble; he had influence over the Gotei when it came to Rukia's swift advancement/graduation, her seated position, and her promotion; and Byakuya could still be stronger than Renji even if Renji became a captain.

But I do believe Renji will get stronger, and if he were ever to become stronger than Byakuya, he would stay and use his strength to protect him and/or fight by his side as equals.

If I remember correctly, Renji suggested Ikkaku should be Captain before Renji himself achieved Bankai... it was in a flashback. :confused: But yes, either way, the point still stands--it was definitely foreshadowing that Renji will stay loyal to Byakuya. Add that to what we have at the funeral....Byakuya's words and definitely the panel with Renji's face tells it all.

Anyone who still thinks Renji wants to surpass Byakuya at this point probably needs to read a little better. His anger/upset ended the moment Byakuya acknowledged him; it was apparently Byakuya he wanted to reach all along, not Rukia. Rukia was close, but not quite what he truly wanted I suppose. :amuse But they are still friends and he accepts the situation with Rukia just fine. Funny how these things work out.

I'm sure Renji is getting stronger even as we speak. He was never meant to become stronger than Byakuya. They can simply meet in the middle and work together from that time on.

More seriously, Renji has what he wants. If his sole ambition in life is now to stay at Byakuya's side to protect him, so be it. There are certainly worse things in the world. So long as Renji is happy, it's all good. He's even getting a power-up -- to better protect Byakuya, I'm sure. He is the dearest person in the world as far as Byakuya is concerned, so I think they are well-suited to stay where they are. The captain-VC relationship is about finding a bond that suits both parties; this bond is what each of them most needs.

Although Renji rather stay put, he is more adaptable and open to work with others; this is his 3rd squad, after all, and he's a very sociable guy. It's difficult to imagine Byakuya working with anyone else. He and Renji understand each other and bring balance to their division; Byakuya being the strict authoritarian while Renji brings the leniency. My headcanon says they've probably had heated discussions about decisions made for their seated officers, but they eventually meet in the somewhere in the middle. Renji respects and admires Byakuya, but will speak out if he feels strongly about an issue.

Yes, Renji's happy where he is. And why wouldn't he be? He is friends with Rukia again, he and Byakuya have a much better/closer relationship, and a power up is coming!

Likewise, Renji may be sociable but he's been shuffled around a lot to find a good fit. He lost his best friend for over forty years because he was too afraid to approach her. Aizen didn't want him around, and he ended up in Zaraki's squad until the time when -- presumably -- Byakuya asked for him. Now he has someplace he belongs, and somewhere to stand that doesn't feel like it's in someone's way. In that place he is finally coming into his own now that he's recovering from Senbonzakura biting Zabimaru, and he's comfortable there.

At last they are both happy standing side by side. It is truly meant to be.

Yea, rii only has a couple of RenBya/ByaRen on FF.net, but she has plenty more fics on LJ along with thoughts/discussions on Bleach chapters, episodes etc. :D I prefer LJ over FF.net for the sense of community there (albeit small).

Hmmm... junko sounds familiar as well, but I've only been on Ao3 a couple of times... maybe I've seen the name in another community? The only fic I remember thoroughly enjoying on Ao3 was The Secret Memoirs of Kuchiki Byakuya. Crack at it's finest. It was hilarious and one of my Byakuya fics. XD

I read her works on LJ too, and, as you said, she always makes interesting comments about the chapters.

Maybe you've seen another person comment about, junko has a quite long series in four parts (and in progress), it may have more than 50 chapters already.

Definitely for Renji though. A box of 6 handmade sweets makes a lovely gift for someone who likes sweets that much. Somehow it seems appropriate that Rukia approves her big brother making things official with her other big brother.

Remember the anime omake where Renji made Ichigo taste Byakuya's creation to help sale them? Also the one from Color Bleach where Byakuya proposes to Renji they make them to represent their division at a festival? Byakuya is so adorable when it comes to his Seaweed thing. XD
