The FC dedicated to one of the most promising manga series in a long time.

Introduction:
Lucy is a young sorceress, who wants to join Fairy Tail Guild. On her trip, she meets Natsu, a young boy, who is looking for Igneel the Salamander. She offers them a lunch and Natsu explains that Igneel is a dragon. Lucy talks about her dreams to join a famous guild, which she later reveals as the Fairy Tail Guild. Later, she is tricked and abducted by Bora of Prominence to be sold as a slave. She is rescued by Natsu, who is the real Salamander, and a true member of Fairy Tail Guild. He offers her to be a member of Fairy Tail. Lucy gladly accepts and joins the guild.

Joinage! Fairy Tail is a great shounen series that quickly reached the top of my favorites list alongside Bleach and One Piece. :3 I especially love the action scenes. The choreography and art is amazing.

Oh yes the plot is definatly moving now. It was doing well before but chapter 47 is wow. Its hard to believe that one chapter can just completely set up a new arc and its villans. I sense a guild war!

Im thinking about who is going to fight that 4 elements guy who nullifies magic. You need somebody who is obscenely powerful as they are. Dont think Natsu or Grey could do it. Maybe Elfan or Erza. Better yet perhaps its time for Luxus, Mistgun and That Geezer to step in >_>

Well, if he nullifies magic, then brute force (Natsu) could work. :p And I have no idea who Luxus or Mistgun are and only vaguely remember Elfman... yeah, it might be a good time to give some spotlight to the lesser known characters.

I hope the old geezer does something else, though. He was beaten so easily that it's almost pathetic...

Luxus, Mistgun and "That Geezer" are the other S class mages at Fairy Tail alongside Erza.

Also That Geezer isnt Master Marakov...is somebody else that Luxus was refering to when he made his apperance.

And Elfman was fighting for half of chapter 49...how can you barely remember him =/

I'm pretty sure "That geezer" was given a name in chapter 48. Gizille calls him Gildartz. The name is grouped together with all the other S-class mages, so I'll assume that that is the old geezer's name.

I just got done catching up with this, I read it through in about a day and a half, good read, all the characters are enjoyable, no one really annoys me which is nice considering useally there is at least one character by this point that starts to get on my nerves.

One thing that I kinda don't like are the villains at this point, they don't really stand out for me at this point, there could be good ones in the future, and Sieg seems to be somewhat interesting.

One thing I do like is that fact that in a shonen manga there seems to be a really nice balance of male and female characters which is rare when considering the other power players in shonen manga, I mean out of this team we have two girls and two boys, also there seems to be a nice balance with the supporting characters as well, much of this seems to come from the fact that a lot of the power in this story is more magical power instead of physical power.

Overall a shonen that is a ton of fun, interesting and engaging character, but needs to work in more plot and character development.

An overall funny lighthearted series...but needs a whole lot more work to be on equal standing with the other shounens out there, and the drawing styles
reminds me of One piece for some reason. Maybe the mangaka is inspired by Oda.

I like the interactions between the 4 protagonists. They are entertaining and natural.

he kind of removed one of them from the main plot, but thats as far as he has gone isn't it

My personal favorite Shonens right now are FMA, Fairy Tail, and Soul Eater, because of the reasons that you just said, they stay on point, they offer fun characters that don't go beyond their limits, they all have good comedy, they all offer a right balance of fan service, and they all don't have plotkai. Also none of those that I mention have characters that are too annoying or useless, none of them have characters that are hyped too much.

The thing that has made Lucy still such a good character, is that she's never been put in a situation where she is made to look like a filler character, she's always been promoted well, she knows that she isn't as strong, but you can tell that she still is trying to improve herself.

As you said Rain, all the characters have been in placed into situations where it seems as if their rise is reasonable, the only one that is sort of hax is Natsu, but even there it's more him awakening his potential than him being granted unreasonable powerups. The one thing that they need to improve on is the aspect of nakama which while central to the plot has been brought up just a little too much, but then again the whole manga is about the comraderie of Fairy Tale.



I've been thinking about it, and I think Erza dying, could be the best thing to happen in the is manga. I mean think about the effect that it would have on everyone else, in my mind it's her death that would have the greatest impact on everyone, Grey and Natsu have always looked up to her, they've always had her to rely on, this would cause them to take looks at themselves and motivate them to become better. For the girls Lucy and Lluvia, for them it cause them to become better themselves, in the eyes of the manga this would cause them to take up the mantle in terms of keeping the manga still balanced in the idea that Erza was a strong female presence, and that is one of the things that is really cool about Fairy Tale is that it has cool strong female characters. It also might give some interesting balance in terms of having two female leads and two male leads.

I really hope that Erza does end up dying, even if she is one of my favorite female characters ever.

Lucy has been in fights, she knows she isn't powerful, yet she still fights back

and I loved the recent scenes she had with Jubia, those were big for both her and jubias character

Either way things are good, if she doesn't die we still have a awesome character that pwns most other female characters in other mangas, if not we get to see the other four really grow up and become even better characters. Heck it even resolves what could have been pairing wars later on, since the Grey x Jubia pairing seems set, and the ensuing Erza x Natsu/Lucy x Natsu war could become bad.

It would be nice to have a manga where the pairings are pretty apparent and where everyone is happy with them. I think it could happen here. I'm going to be interested to see how long Fairy Tail lasts, it seems like there is a ton that needs to be worked out, I mean the 7/7/77 stuff could take a huge amount of time, not to mention the stuff with Zeref possibly.

when I think about it the Erza x Natsu x Lucy war could get really really bad eventually if Erza is kept around, because I'm already seeing very subtle hints that there could be feelings that developed over time.

Finally joining...

Put in the way of a "master" dying, I can see why it would be necessary for Ezra to die. She's kind of been the glue holding them together and showing them the way, and now that Natsu has at least in power surpassed her, I think they kind of need to find their own footing.

Plus, with Happy, they're already a five man band, and since Mashima seems intent on keeping Jubia around, Ezra may need to go.

Fairy Tale is so much about friendships, it's hard for me to imagine the potential for love triangle situations. Aside from Grey/Jubia, I don't see much of a potential for anything else. I'm sure Natsu/Lucy has it's appeal, but Natsu's so childish sometimes (it's part of the reason I love him) that it's just hard to wrap that around my head.

You're right messy, it's about friendships, but really that's how it is with all shonens really. I think the thing I see is that most of these characters are over the age of 17 (which I love btw) so I think later on (I'm talking about another 100 chapters) that I could see relationships forming, it's not something that would break or make the manga since it's already awesome without that stuff, but I do think it might come into play a little later, just a bit.

We'll all see in couple years what comes about.

epic, simply epic, I'm really happy if that's her final scene, there are a lot of things that they could do, such as Zeref showing up in Erza's body, or things like that, but I hope that's her end, it really is I think the perfect plot progression for the manga, Erza, and her friends. As Rain said, this is soooo much better than Naruto or Bleach or One Piece, a real death of a comrade a equal to the other mains.

RIP Erza Scarlet, one of the most memorable female characters in manga.

I get the feeling that Fairy Tail Filler would actually be pretty good, the world is much more suited for it, the odd jobs that they could take could actually be pretty funny, and there's more that you can do with the characters than in D.Grey-man where it was just Akuma of the weeks type stuff. For instance remember when the group went and did the acting for the theater? I think that's the sort of stuff that they cold make good filler, there's a lot of interesting and funny jobs that they could take on, and I think the characters have enough charisma that they could make it work.

I thought since the series is well liked, and since we are at the 100 chapter mark, why don't we discuss some stuff, like who is your favorite character? What's your favorite arc? Favorite Fight? that sort of stuff.

I'll wait and see if other partake before I put my own thoughts down.

yeah, fairy tail is similar to OP in that sense, its filler can fit with the story kind of and not seem like crap like Naruto and Bleach fillers

For me my favorite Character is/was Erza, I loved how Mashima doesn't have any bias against women, he made a women the strongest member of the group and did it so well. Erza is just such a cool girl, she's stunningly hot, has a strong character, cool magic, and is great friend. If we don't have her in the manga anymore than I would say my next favorite is Gray, I like his magic, and I like his style, I think he tends to be the one that seems to get forgotten about. Really I like every single character in Fairy Tail except for maybe a couple of Erza's friends, who seem like they could have been more, but they aren't bad either.

Favorite arc for me was Gray's arc, because it was there that I knew that this manga would be able to hold my interest, I really Gray as a character and he got to shine here, it also began to show that there is some other element at work what with Sieg and Urtear, who knows what will happen with that stuff now.

Favorite Fight would be Probably Natsu v. Gizelle, I thought it was the first fight that seemed quite epic in nature, I also thought the fight was fair and seemed to have a natural course, the other thing was that the length was just right since it was neither too short or too long. That whole war arc was pretty epic in general.

Leo's arc...I was interested why Leo was so afraid with the mage like Lucy and found out that Leo is actually a summon..good character developtment and such...

Favorite Fight

Dragonslayer vs Dragonslyer...Natsu vs metaldude(argh..keep forgetting names) that fight was epic..Fire vs Metal..although Saggitarus' apperance kinda distrupted the fight..overall that fight was awesomee

Leo/Loki arc was pretty cool, I really like Loki overall, I'm just wish we could have seen what his ability is, I thought the idea of using a ring is actually unique, I don't know if I've actually seen that in manga, I mean you have things like Captain Planet or the Green Lantern. I just wish he could have stayed in the real world instead of becoming one of Lucy's stellar spirits, but I guess it lets her become more powerful, it's just that I'm going to miss seeing Loki's coolness.

Well in the Jubia/whatever the Rocker's name was, she didn't really have to summon him since Aquarius was perfect for the situation.

I think Lucy will summon him in the next arc, since I know the character is popular, and they can't keep him away for too long. I really loved Loki I wish he could be more a part of the group.

It's actually quite amazing how Fairy Tail has so many named members of the guild so early, I mean we have S class mages, Markarov, Elfman and his sister who's name eludes me, the mage that uses cards and was one of the leaders during the war, the three person group that was attacked, the two foreign mages that use guns and secretly like each other, the big guy that uses his own body as a canvas, a couple of the older mages like the one that has a kid. I know I don't remember most of their names but they've still been named in the manga, and that's a lot of members!

Seriously who wouldn't want live with these guys? It's a fricken party everyday when they aren't kicking ass!

I can't remember many of the names eithe, but to think it has all been planned out so much.

One of the things that really works in the manga, is the magic, everybody has very distinct styles, and it provides some interesting matchups, I mean when you see someone using gun magic opposed by someone that uses for instance stellar spirits, that's interesting.

I wonder how much he actually has planned? There's a lot of stuff that he can use, and I wonder how he'll use the other guild members? Elfman for instance seems like someone that might be used later, or the former mage that's his sister.

yea, there are such different styles of fighting, and they have made decent reasons for fighting

they have to go on guild missions, there are rival guilds, there are dangerous situatiosn where they need to save nakama

I just thank god that there is no random ass tournament they choose to enter, i hate that idea :XD


I think he has said before that he hasn't planned much out, in one of the earlier volumes his comment, ill look back to it and see if that was what he said

Well there won't be a tournament in the future either, unless he makes the mistake of having some test to be a S class mage.

I love the idea of a guild, it isn't like how there is a country or the world that they are fighting for, it's about their friends, it's about doing what's right. There's also been a lot of emotion in the fights, Gray had to avenge his teacher (the uber hot Ur), Erza had unfinished buisness, The war arc was epic, Lucy is trying to prover herself. They're all good reasons.

I think one thing that also provides some interesting background is that there are more than just the lands that they are in now, there are other continents, it provides a lot of room to grow, perhaps we'll see the land that those two foreign mages come from.

yeah, every arc has had great reasons, so much emotion, real nakama based moments, just great writing

oh, and at the end of volume 2 Mashima said this (more or less)

the series is currently in the planning stages, he hasn't given any thought to where its going to end

Though looking back at Grey's arc, he was trying to sacrifice himself in order to save his friends only to be repeatedly told that it was foolish (I'd have to go back to the manga to remember exactly why). So it's not like Mashima is going back on previous themes in this case. I wasn't really holding out too much hope that she really would die, just because the genre, while some series have their big important deaths, doesn't really emphasize the more negative aspects like death especially when it comes to main characters.

With Ezra and her armor, I think it's more that she won't always need it. At the start of this arc, at the beach (I think) she was exquipping to different outfits only to be the most comfortable in her armor, but she seemed a bit put down that that was the case. I think as a result of this, Ezra is more confident as Ezra.

Now I wonder if we'll move onto the whole 7/7/77 thing. I just wonder how Lucy's mother works into that since that was her death date.

It was Natsu both times, I believe. I remember it was him the second time, but I'm not sure about the first. I think it was him still in that chunk of ice. (It's why I love Natsu. He's still awesome if he's stuck in a block of ice or a cat head.) I'm going to check in it...soonish.

edit: I got mixed up a bit. It was Natsu both times, but he did it later in the ruins. The first time Natsu told him the dying was running away and it was when they first got to the ruins, long after ice block Natsu. The second was when the ice melted around Deloria. Natsu reminded him (asked him if his "voice reached him") and was going to fight it in his place.

While I disagree with the decision to keep Erza, I do have to admit that Hiro did a good job in terms of keeping a theme in the manga, the connection to Gray was done well, I think he saved the manga in some ways by going back to the theme of living for your nakama.

I also have to say that this chapter was done really well, the art was some of the best that I've seen, this picture http://www.onemanga.com/Fairy_Tail/100/25-26/ might be the best image in the manga. Hiro stepped up in terms of the art.

Yes Fairy Tail doesn't really have much of a female archtype, Lucy is pretty independent, while she's weak, it's not really even her fault right now, it's not like she's useless, she's fought a bit, she just needs more experience, and she needs to use her stellar spirits better, like if she could use two at the same time that would be awesome.

I don't know, there's certain elements of Lucy that fit in with Orihime. That struggle to keep up with her friends is probably what hits me the most. But Lucy does have more aggressive tendencies, and she's certainly more open with her physique. Lucy is Ms. Fanservice of the series seeing the outfits she wears always tend to end up covering a lot less by the end of the arc. Plus, they like to have her fight against other attractive girls.

Including Luvia, we've got a five man band. I'm not counting Happy like I did before.

But Loki is a Mashima-style Ichigo in terms of looks. Maybe it's just the orange, shaggy hair.

I don't even think she really showed her strength against Grey. She was too distracted by him and eventually got too emotional. Her instinct about Shimon only wanting to test them was a good indicator at least about her intelligence in a fighting situation.

It's interesting how much older she looked in the first chapters she was in. I was just reading those the other day and she didn't look to be even close in age to the normal crew.

It has to be Zeref or someone associated with Zeref, I mean we have had two constant factors in the story, we have the 777 stuff, and we have Zeref, I would be very disappointed if Zeref doesn't become the main villain, because he sounds like a very evil guy, he sounds like he would make a good villain, and that's what we need. Fairy Tail could become epic if it would develop a final villain and if we could have a character death, this manga needs some sort of death or else it will have some of the same problems that Bleach and OP have, which is no sense of tension in the fights.

Fairy Tail is awesome! I was a little put off by the artwork at first, given it's resemblance to One Piece's (urgh....) but I soon got over it!

All the characters are so unique and interesting. I'm really looking forward to the next arc. I'd figured that they'd have to address the dragons soon, given that Zeref was pretty much defeated (maybe?).

Also, anything that comes out of Happy's mouth is hilarious. :D

They have to have Zeref come back, they can't give us all this hype about him and then not have him return in some form, I really think it's not if, but a matter of when.

As for the art, I actually really like it, it does have some OP in it, but it's a bit more grounded, you don't see the facial expressions as wacky in OP, but OP does have a lot more locations and a bit more flair in terms of the spectacular. Fairy Tail I think have very nice character designs, All the main characters look good, and they seem like they are actually 17 and 18 years old, instead of being 15 but looking 19 or something of that sort.

The latest chapter raises some interesting questions about Zeref. And I can definitely see a showdown between Urtear and Gray coming. Everybody's favorite exhibitionist probably won't take too kindly to his teacher's daughter being all villainy...

And Jubia is awesome! Her name alone is cool, as I'm pretty sure it's a derivative of lluvia, which is Spanish for rain.

I'm interested to see what role the dragons play. Perhaps they're in league with Zeref. That would give Natsu some very interesting conflict.

New chapter is a great example of what makes Fairy Tail, Fairy Tail, it's all about having fun, being with friends, and generally trying to enjoy life.

I must say that as cool as the new Guild is, the member are now freakin spoiled as hell! I mean they have their own open air cafe, pool, merchandise store, freakin hot as hell waitresses with new outfits, and a stage!

New Lluvia is a major major upgrade, really nice outfit, really helps her become more fairy tail like, she looks good.

Gazille's entry in Fairy Tail is interesting, didn't think that would happen, Fairy Tail in general is just a powerhouse it seems like, the S ranked mages, two dragon slayer mages, Gray, all the other mages that appear to be competent as well, as well as Mirajane who used to be a S ranked mage as well, not to mention they also have Markarov at the top to lead and guide. Overall if I was another group I would NOT want to mess with Fairy Tail.

Overall a nice chapter! I liked the art as well.

Let's be honest, Animated Fairy Tail will be about as good as animated Soul Eater, which is very very good. I actually have the feeling that animated Fairy Tail will actually have good filler, I say this because if you look at the one shot type chapters they usually work pretty well, I mean look at this chapter or when Lucy, Natsu, Gray, and Erza took that job at the theatre, I could see a lot of fun in those types of episodes.

I know that I probably hoping for the impossible, but it just seems as if Fairy Tail has the type of stuff to produce good filler.

Rain, Lluvia looks a lot hotter in the new outfit, different hair style, a lot more pazzaz to the palette, just a lot better.

Well it looks like we get some background on Luxus, shows him attending some sort of festival with Markarov back when he was young boy.

I have no idea what these three new characters' personalities are like, but their look is quite cool and a upgrade over Erza's nakama, Trinity Raven, and the three mages from Gray's arc.

Also it looks as if Lucy may enter some sort of miss fairy tail pagent to earn money, but then again I can't read Japanese at all, so who knows. All I know is that if that's the case then Lucy keeps getting worse. I mean I thought this was a girl who wanted adventure, instead we have her first in a bunny outfit, then we have her trying to go teach young kids magic, and now she's apparently entering a beauty pagent

I can't believe how utterly adorable little Luxus was in all his rosy-cheeked, shiny-eyed glory.

I think the issue with Lucy is that while she's a lot more confident in her abilities, she's not willing to step out onto a limb and text them. When thrown into the situation where she has to fight, she does well, but when faced with being proactive and doing these things entirely on her own, I think she's a bit lost. The first thing she did before looking for a mission was looking for someone to go with her.

Though I do love that, of all missions, Gazille grabs the mission to teach magic to kids. I can only imagine the looks of fear on those kids faces.

I mentioned this elsewhere, but did anyone else find it interesting that Gazille's age was listed as unknown in the last chapter? I'm sure that'll get worked in when we delve into the whole dragon disappearance thing.

I think it's true that she has wanted to be in Sorcerer, but she's also stated that she wanted adventure as well. She wants to write a book about the adventures that she takes. She wants to be a true part of Fairy Tail, the thing is that she has lately been only good for fan service.

wow, I have to say if there is one thing that Mashima does well every single fucking time, it's fan service.

It's actually quite amazing to think Jubia went from a fairly innocent covered up yet cute girl, to now arguably the hottest girl in FT, I mean that shot of her in this chapter I think is the best we've had so far, and that's saying a lot, especially when you consider what we got in this chapter.

As for the plot relevance, I guess it was a good chapter, I'm looking forward to seeing more magic, and I have a feeling we might see more of characters like Gray and Elfman which would be great.

Gazille probably can't be trusted enough to be given that class. I do wonder if there's a universal standard in giving the rank. Her fanservice mode in this chapter makes her seem proportionately normal compared to everyone else, which is interesting since she seemed a bit more...curvy when she was possessed by Vithaldas.

Mira using her transformation magic was certainly different. Did she think there was something attractive about Gazille's or Happy's head on her body?

With the Luxus flashback (I still can't get over how utterly adorable he was as a kid), this battle royal will probably only last long enough to get to the root of his problem. I don't think it's just about taking over, and maybe it has something to do with the scar over his eye.

But it's a good thing that Evergreen took out the ladies, because she took out two of the active S-class mages. Gildartz or Mist Gun coming around is kind of unlikely. I highly doubt we'd get a reveal anytime soon, but I want to see what kind of bishi Mist Gun is under the mask. So Natsu is apparently over 80. He's certainly not a statue. I did notice a few weeks back that Gazille's ID card had his age stated as unknown, and looking back, Natsu's has the same thing.

Early theory (at least what seems to be the obvious answer at this point in time) is that both Natsu and Gazille didn't physically age until their respective dragons disappeared, then their bodies started to age normally from there. From what we've seen of Natsu, he was a kid alongside Grey and Ezra, so he's been aging at a normal rate since he got to Fairy Tale. Since it was just him and Igneel up until then, there'd be no reason for him to really understand the passage of time, especially if he'd experienced no physical change.

Yeah, there really aren't too many left now...28 at the end of this chapter, and it sounds like 4 by the beginning of next. I don't know who would be the four though, because right now there's Makarov, Natsu, Bixlow, Evergreen, Justine, and Luxus already counting for six. Happy might be an official member too, I don't know if he is or not. If the odds are really bad, I guess it could be just the Raijinshuu and Luxus, but somehow I don't see that combination happening.
