Something you wanna say about the site? All reasonable suggestions will be looked at so give us your ideas, love, suggestions here.
We welcome suggestions for improvement but bad mouthing the site in here is not welcome.
I would like to add that we are still working on adding features so maybe wait a tiny bit before suggesting things cos it may show up over the next few days anyway

Just a small information: The character limit for a single post was updated to 100k (1000.000) characters per post. This should be enough especially for FC's to get all their material in the front-post

Not so much as a suggestion but as a question, but will we be seeing the BA dark theme anytime soon?
I'm not sure if anybody had a backup of it :S.

Yes, we will have one and its on the list of things to do. It probably won't be the exact same one though.

I have a question. Are the Groups only temporary feature or will they stay? Because maybe it would be a nice place for example for gamers. There could be Group for certain game where players could exchange nicks, info and discuss stuff not necessarily spamming discussion or FC sections. Just curious.

The groups are probably going to be temporary. We are still changing a lot of the none essential settings. Besides that, we would like to keep as much activity to the actual forums themselves.

Is it just me or are the groups, albums, etc. already gone since a few minutes? Because I don't see that option on my profile anymore.
But I agree: having groups, albums etc. is pretty pointless when we can have threads for that ~

Welcome Kaoru ^^ (but make sure to thank Uni - I onlyforwarded it to her and announced it here ^^; )
Also: The limit for pictures in a single post has been raised to 50 by Belias.
This should help GFX'ers to set up their threads properly & also helps FC's to collect stuff
And for everyone who hasn't noticed (like me lmao): You see who repped you when you view your profile -> just change the Tab from "My Activity" to "Reputation" (thanks Panda_Bar for informing me! :D)

Ohh Nice. I kept getting Rep and couldn't figure out who to thank. I've already repped you recently so I can't do it again to say thanks, so this'll just have to do, so Thanks!

I don't think this is extremely urgent, but would be great if rectified. Want to point out / ask:
The One Piece (http://bleachasylum.com/forumdisplay.php?11-One-Piece-General) and Naruto (http://bleachasylum.com/forumdisplay.php?14-Naruto-General) General sections, people should be able to create new threads right? Cause I dont see a "+ Post New Thread" button in that specific page. Only FCs can be created within the respective FC subforums.
I was checking with the webarchive version, creating new threads in this directory ladder should be possible. e.g. One Piece General (http://web.archive.org/web/20121004122511/http://bleachasylum.com/forumdisplay.php/77-One-Piece-General) (webarchive version)
Maybe the setting is slightly off?

I just checked, and you're right, it doesn't let members create new threads. I think they likely just forgot to update the permissions when making the site live. Nice catch. I was actually considering posting a new thread in there myself the other day, but decided against it.

I wouldn't mind seeing this again as well, not so much for my own sake but I know several of people in the past had nice animated avatars. The size limit would probably have to be the same (file) would probably have to be the same as what the current one is though, I imagine.

Another 2 things :D
1. When you click "view conversation" in VMs, the background of the messages is transparent and sometimes the text is barely visible. It's not that disturbing but I thought I point that out.
2. Is Graphic Of The Month competition coming back?
Franco

Probably still too soon to say, but are you guys still going to hold Post of the Month contests? I wasn't as active on the nomination threads as much as I liked, but it was still a lot of fun to look through all the candidates. Also gives us lowly mortals a shot at internet prestige, if I may add. :D

I think we'll resume POTM contests once everything else is back up and running. We're still trying to fix any glitches or other issues first. Stay tuned.

1. This is being worked on. :D So please be patient just a little longer.
2. This is being discussed. Azley and I are both interested in starting it up again, but we'd all like to wait until we have major issues taken care of. It depends on Unicorn and Velius right now.
Good questions. Please keep letting us know of any issues or concerns you encounter.

If you'll VM me and remind me which month you won, I'll send your badge to you. But please wait to wear it until Velius or Unicorn confirms that it's OK to wear it in addition to your sig. :D

That was done on purpose to give the sections more organization. All threads should go into a Fan Club, the Anime or Manga section of the forums. since all "general" threads could fit into one of those easily.

I already VMed Azley about it, but I'll ask here while the admins/mods are here.
I make various stuff - graphics, drawings, own series, fanarts, colorings, CSS etc. etc. My question is if there is any place where I can make a thread for all my works? Or do I have to make a separate thread in graphics section and another one for fanart? But then there is no section for original artwork... I'm just a bit confused.
P.S. Belias, did you get my PM? I'm not complaining or anything, just wanted to make sure it didn't get lost.

Yeah sorry, needed some sleep so I wasn't on when you wrote me. A "General Art" subforum is missing, gonna forward it to Uni:
Graphics are not the same as Fanarts so you are allowed to create 2 separate threads like we had it in the past.
Original Arts + Colorings can go in 1 thread in the "General Art" subforum once it's there.

Can we have our personal profiles not viewable to the people who are not logged in? I can read other people's vms when not logged in and that strikes me as a big privacy issue. BA kept it private before. :(

Yu can change that. Go to: Settings -> Profile Privacy
There you can change everything to registered users or friends
I'll forward it so we can change the default option to registered members. Already activated users have to change it per hand though.

Wasn't there an interest/hobbies section before? It's no crucial, I suppose you could also put it in with the Biography, I'm just checking it didn't go mysteriously missing, haha.
Uhhh, you could always do Favorite Bleach Episodes? Favorite Games? Favorite Books? Favorite Movies/Tv? It's getting rather indepth but whatever people want to see ^^.

IMO the interests section or something similar could stay. Though the more detailed categories aren't necessary. I mean, it's manga/anime forum with domination of Bleach, so the fav manga/anime makes sense but the rest isn't necessary. You can always put it in bio. Though the fav episode could be added since for sure there are people who only watched the anime.

I would like to emphasize this as well. I opened a tab and spent about ten minutes reading the latest chapter in order to make a comment on the chapter thread. And Bam! I'm logged out.

In the Profile settings you can enter your home page url but I don't see it anywhere on the profile page. I think it already disappeared before the forum was down.
Would it be a good idea to release an email id to contact in the event of site unavailability or in cases of extreme emergency where a message on Facebook page won't do?

Won't happen for the reasons Kurorai mentioned.
We will most likely have a day once a year to change the name but no changing on your own. All those changing names was the reason I quit ICQ because I had no clue who I'm talking to anymore.

Well, IMO you should choose a good name and just stick to it unless you have some good reason to change it. It can be also used to... trick people if someone will have bad reputation. I just don't think we need that feature available for everyone. More like in special cases or limited to once a year or something.
Special titles are not needed either. You can custom titles now, which are much better. And quality is more important than quantity, so reputation titles are enough.
What you mean by points plugin? And arcade?

Yeah, it's something they're working on fixing. Originally the tab was there on the page, however there were privacy concerns, so it was removed. They'll get it fixed soon I'm sure to get it so we can see who gave us Rep.
Someone should check if the multiple post merging/ updating feature is working. I see that some users have double posted within a 5 minute time frame and instead of a single post that says "Updated", I see two separate posts.
Plus the timeout and automatic logout is really annoying. I spent a while typing up a post and then when I hit the submit button, I see the logout page.

About the auto-timeout and logout, I haven't heard of the issue before. Please PM me the details and I'll look into that further.
Personally, I usually make sure to tick the 'remember me' just under the login boxes. In that way, BA doesn't log me out even after I return from a meal break, for example. Not sure if it applies to other forummers... Would you be able to try it and see if it works better for you?

^I always assumed that when the page starts skipping posts on its own (WOAH, THAT'S SOME TRIPPY EXORCISM-LEVEL STUFF THERE, MAN), there were just too many users putting up their comments all at the same time. The page's probably just taking you to the latest latest post on that thread.

Never used that option - what is it? The "new Posts" in the navigation bar or something else?
But yeah could be due to too many new posts, I don't know the "update cycle" for that function.

The trick there is to keep scrolling up every time you click on an unread thread. That way, you're absolutely sure you've read all the posts on that page before posting.

When there are new posts in a thread, the title is in bold and there is a little icon next to it. That icon leads to first unread post. Maybe it is too many posts but I don't think that this thread is THAT active.
The trick there is to keep scrolling up every time you click on an unread thread. That way, you're absolutely sure you've read all the posts on that page before posting.
I do that but sometimes it's a bit annoying :/

BA loves you so much that we secretly log you off per hand Franco :p (j/k of course, Mod's love you too)
As for auto log out: never happened to me oô
But seeing that a few have that issue we'll look into it asap.
Won't happen for the reasons Kurorai mentioned.
We will most likely have a day once a year to change the name but no changing on your own. All those changing names was the reason I quit ICQ because I had no clue who I'm talking to anymore.
What is that? Can you explain it more becase I have no clue what you mean.
Name you can set to once a month, but i understand why u wont allow it.
As for posts, you can get a plugin that gives you points depending on the length of your post (# of characters).
Like i have 150k points after 2 years of posting on another forum.
But another awesome thing is that you can then add this "lottery" system, where u purchase tickets (max 10 tickets/day @ 25 points each) to participate in the lottery. We've had jackpots upto 200k at a time, and a winner is randomly selected every day. Although there is a 30% chance that no winner is selected, and people have to repurchase max of 10 tickets again - the jackpot then gets bigger and bigger.
Using the point system, u can offer forum rewards, such as Titles like "Troll", "Ultimate Poster". We offer things like Admin ingame but u can come up with some kind of reward system in exchange for points.
That system alone has boosted our forum popularity by a lot.
As for arcade, you can add games that people can play on the forums on their free time.
I can look for that plugin for yuo if u like.

Again, quality over quantity. If you will give points for post length, people will be spamming just to get points. And this is a discussion forum.
I don't see a point of the lottery either.
About the special stuff for points, I experienced that on another forum and it didn't work out. I don't think we need it here.
Games are also unecessary - it's a discussion forum about manga/anime, for gaming forum maybe it works out but here... Not every site needs games (I see a facebook syndrome here)
I'm sorry if I sound harsh

I actually like BA's rep system just fine. Earning points based on post count alone doesn't really let users (read: spammers) earn them, know what I'm saying.
Zanka No Tachi
03-27-2013, 05:54 PM
Spamming does become a problem because of the point system but i found that BA is pretty strict about that stuff. As long as rules are strict and enforced, im pretty sure you can keep spammers away or at a very low rate. At the very least, it may promote people to atleast try to write longer and informative posts lol
@kuro, i know it is a discussion forum, but it doesnt have to be just serious business all the time. People can relax and play a couple arcade games. For points, it can be set to various options. Either # characters in post like 0.1 or like 2 point/post regardless of the characters.
I guess rewards is a hit or miss, cuz its pretty popular on my forumz
The lottery made me nolife the forums, waiting for the winners to be anounced, and so i can bank my points immediately before someone "Robs" my points [Success rate 30%] and if u fail, the other person gets twice the points that u tried to rob :D

Yeah, I tried that before and it doesn't want to do anything. I can make it bigger and then make it smaller, but it still stops at a point where it's quite big. It's on every other VM message page as well, but here's a screenie of how it looks:

Uhm can't say that it's really big. I'd say mine has the same size oô
I'm actually getting this quite a bit myself. Prior to BA going down, it wasn't much of an issue. However lately, it seems like if you're inactive for a short period of time, you get auto-logged out. The cookies show they don't expire for about a year, but it still logs me out rather quick. I can check the "Remember Me?" box in the mean time, but if there is a way to make the session last a little longer, that'd be appreciated.

I don't ask for more, but you should really set the "show images" as default.. it's rather annoying when you're looking at this URL images from every user since the beginning , I was about to ask the admin but realized the settings for new BA is different(ie, the visitor message at the beginning). If the admin have already done so then please ignore me..
also, MORE smilies please >.<... smilies can make a post interesting!

I just sent you a VM, although shortly after sending that, I had a thought. Is the increased Session time/Cookie Time (whatever it was you set) the reason for so many people being "online" at once? We're currently nearing 4200. I don't think it's anything that will cause a problem, but I just thought I'd bring it up incase it was an unintended side-effect.

As for the image issue, can you provide more details here? Are you referring to sigs, or to images within posts altogether?
I thought I was the only one who noticed. Why are there so many people online? Something isn't right.
I think it's partly to do with my request. By setting the session expiration time higher, I'm thinking that those who visit the site aren't having their information cleared from the site after a short period like they originally were, and thus the site is continually gaining "active users" even though I'm sure most of them aren't actually here anymore. At some point, the sessions will expire though and we'll see the numbers decrease.
If this turns out to be a problem (assuming it was the session thing that made it happen, maybe I'm completely wrong about it), then I have no problem having it set back to how it was and just checking the "remember me?" box.

Quoting myself from the solves issues thread:
If you have registered before the listed date you have to check / change those settings per hand as it oly affects oncoming registrations!
User-settings (default):
24.3.2013
Changed "Show Avatars / Signatures / Images to "yes" by default
Changed VM's to "Yes" on default
You registered on said day. If your account was active before Bel made the changes on that day you need to change the setting per hand (Settings -> General Settings). I've seen newly registered users who's signature shows so I'm pretty sure the "View Images" also works on default now.
Would ne nice to get feedback from new members to see if it really works.
As for the V-problem: We'll look into it.

Can we please get who quoted me function? I know you said you will discuss it Aszly, but BA quickly has become a large forum and very difficult to track especially for people who don´t have plenty of time. It´s essential for every forum. Also more skin options please.
Um...I have a browser related issue that I just wanted to mention here. My default browser is Opera Browser and when I'm browsing BA and I'm scrolling up or down, the sides of the page scroll up and down smoothly,in sync, but the middle part of the page lags horribly behind and "catches up" the sides. This gives the effect of video tearing....I tried logging in to BA using Chrome browser (latest version 26 point something) and I don't see this happening. I verified this activity both on Windows and in Linux Debian Wheezy.
Could be a browser bug specific to Opera or something about the page that triggers it? If anyone uses Opera, it would be worthwhile to check if this behaviour can be replicated.

Never had that problem. I tried it with IE, Firefox + Chrome so I assume it is a Opera problem and most likely something we can't change because it's the browser fault.
Feedback from other Opera users would be nice indeed.

A more detailed answer is that because the admins of BA do have a life, full times jobs and responsibilities outside of BA. We are not dedicated tech support that can work on problems and updates 8 hours a day (unfortunately). We do what we can in our free time, including making decisions. Most of the time "free time" for us is only a couple of hours a week.

I totally understand that, it´s not like i am saying do it now. All i am saying is it would be nice to have this feature at some time in the future, and since you already have a similar system in place in the rep system. I mean you guys are working on a new skin, but who quoted me feature is much more important to forum than different skin color because it festers more discussions and keep make the forum more active imo. No need to get very defensive when my suggestion helps the community, and improve/increase the overall discussions on the forum. Hi Deathking, thanks for your suggestions. However some of your posts come across as a little insistent and demanding, especially for one specific 'who quoted me' function.
I am busy as well as the other mods / forummers - and I think all of us care for this forum. I haven't seen anyone else demanding for this function as 'essential'.
Please understand that we are still trying to fix various bugs and issues around the forum - 'pretty' things will have to wait. We do not have a timeline to update things.

No need to be offended but we work our own priority list.
Also: the rep function is a basic feature within VBulletin which is ensured to work with whatever VBulletin version we use, the quote-module needs to be inserted since it's not official it requires finding a working plugin and the only one I found which isn't already completey outdated still causes problems as users report + it does not work with VBulletin 4.2. (which we run on).
The demand for a new skin came from more people so it's priority will be higher naturally.

BTW, I was wondering how exactly approving members works? Why everyone needs to be approved first?
The idea was that it would cut down on a lot of spam bots that register. By manually approving members, it gives them a chance to spot the spammers before they can post and ban them that way. Some still slip through, but it does help stop some before they get a chance to do anything.

The idea was that it would cut down on a lot of spam bots that register. By manually approving members, it gives them a chance to spot the spammers before they can post and ban them that way. Some still slip through, but it does help stop some before they get a chance to do anything.
But before a member is approved, they can't do anything on the forum, so how do they recognize the bots? By nicks?

Via IP-search, usernames & mail-accounts that look like this: fgsdtwhdud, suspicious links in homepage + signature

Nicknames, maybe e-mail addresses. I'm not sure what all they use to recognize them. Assuming they still have it set-up so that you have to PM an Admin to be approved (They might have stopped doing that, not sure), the bots likely won't send the PM, and thus not get approved and won't be able to make the spam posts. However, I'll let a Mod/Admin explain it better since I'm sure they're more in the loop than I.

Trade secret on how to ID spambots :)
Anyhow we trialled this method in the old BA and it stopped the majority of spambots getting into BA and posting random sales messages.
The person can either PM, rep or report a post so one of the admins can actually approve them.

Ok, I asked 'cause last few days people were registered without that (including me)
I was just talking about this to someone and I came up with an idea. Maybe it would be good if after you click the confirmation link there would be a little pop-up (like the one when you log out) saying that you have to contact the admins? No one would miss it then.

Nope, I got only the one with confirmation link, no info about messaging admins. But I registered almost week ago, I don't know when you put that on.
Also, Zero says that when he's trying to PM admins, it keeps telling him that he doesn't have permission to do that.

The reason you and others have been approved without messaging any admins, is because of me. :D It is still true that to be guaranteed activation, you do need to PM or send a report, but for the time being I will be continuing to approve users manually.
The reasoning being, is that we are getting so many user since we had to start over, undoubtablly some users who want to post, will slip through the cracks and not get approved. I basically look as users names, emails and IP addresses to determine if they are real or not. I've gotten pretty good at it. :D Only a few bots have slipped past me. LOL But some users who have bot-ish names might not get approved unless they go through the approval steps.

My curiosity got me here, previously you guys used to have 4 sections for the top anime/manga.
Which were Bleach, OP, Naruto and KHR but since the last one already ended (*which brings tears to my eyes*) you end up having 3.
I know that you all been working hard fixing the forum but why not add you know another section with one of new popular A/M like Kuroko no Basket. Of course I'm just suggesting.

I'm not sure if it would be feasible or not, but I do have a suggestion. As you all know, there have been a lot of spamming going around the site (which is really annoying) and I thought a custom captcha system could maybe overcome that. Not with random numbers and letters though, but about the universe of Bleach. A system where instead of a captcha, random questions about Bleach pops up. For example; "Who was it that Ichigo was trying so hard to save from being executed?" or "Who saves Ichigo from Nnoitra?". Or more general questions like: "What is the place souls go to after life called?" or "What is the town Ichigo lives in called?"; so that it won't pose as spoilers for people that aren't up to date with the manga.
It could maybe be used as random questions during the registration phase, or before each post is accepted. Bots couldn't possibly pass through that. And I can't imagine anyone actually familiar with the franchise signing up to make spammage. I know it might sound troublesome, for both the administrators and the users of the site, but I thought I'd get the idea out there.
Tell me what you think. :)

^^ I'm not sure how the admins would implement this, but it sounds like an interesting and efficient idea.
We try to catch the bots before they ever post on the site, but we still count on members to report spam if a bot is missed, by either clicking the Report button (the triangle with the !) or VM'ing a mod.

Originally sent this suggestion to Azley/Belias via PM but got no reply. I don't know if they even received the message, hence no idea what their opinion is on this.
My main suggestion was creation of a "Master thread" for the most important (and common) threads in the Bleach manga section. While its true the forum is fairly new (since the re-start) and there are not many threads as of yet but its bound to increase rapidly. My idea was if we already have a organised thread making system then in the long run it would make it easier for members to access the most important threads, esp for new members.
I can understand the mods/admins are busy and there are other piorities which needs more urgent attention. But can you guys at least confirm if its on the list of to do things, or think its not necessary at this moment in time, or going to transfer the original "master thread" from the old forum.

Its a little too soon for a master thread, since we barely have enough threads to fill the first page. Plus, we need to keep the number of threads relative to user activity. So even though almost all those threads are great ideas, we wouldn't want a bunch of threads with barely any replies everywhere. So I would keep track of potential threads and make them gradually as current topics and users activity permits and then when we get a decent amount, we can come back to it.

1. The fan club sections from both the One Piece and Naruto section have been removed. For the time being, all threads that would go there will be made here in the anime and manga fc's. I think that may be a bit counter-productive. It would be best to conduct such communique over a Facebook Chat over at the BA Facebook page; perhaps send some friend requests to the members. The boards would be best for having chapter discussions and such...essentially stuff that can be archived. Just my two cents :)

Forum is a forum and facebook is just an addition. On the other hand facebook chat could be useful sometimes just not like "hey, now we're gonna talk only on facebook and on the forum go only discussion posts". I like to separate a bit my real and e-life and I'm too lazy to have 2 facebook accounts :p
I hope this feedback doesn't get too much flak... but here goes.
I think a lot of folks are really not taking the time to read the rules, especially the ones pertaining to NOT linking to the manga scanlation sites like Mangapanda, Mangastream and Mangahead. On many occasions, I have taken the effort to cut the mods some slack and VM'ed the folks; informed them of the rule and some of them were kind enough to take it in the right spirit and edit their links out. But the point sticks that people don't read the forum rules. Reporting the posts is a simple way out, but it shows a lack of compliance on the user's part and an inconvenience to the mods.
Now that Azley and Otome-San have put up detailed How-To's on image embedding and spoiler tags, the users should really take the effort to embed the image instead of directly linking to it. I appeal to the mods to start issuing raps on the wrists of repeat offenders of this rule.
Again, not dissing any of you, but rules are rules!

@Clara, there is no such plans for anything like that, at this time.
@Kuro, haven't seen any issues of people integrading into facebook from here. Given the way facebook works, I think most people are used to being in that environment and using their real names.
@Nick, at the current time, we don't have any ads in place, so the no links rule hasn't been taking too high priority when it comes to modding. As for other rules, different users learn at different rate, so some people need extensive rules, while others don't. Its really a personal learning curve for everyone. I'm sure plenty of people have been posting without ever reading the rules and can get along just fine, while others have to check them quite regularly. Its a thin line between too strict and too much slack. The mods are doing good to keep things in line, especially since we have to rebuild from scratch.
Any chance we can get a rule (or guideline/suggestion) set-up so that when someone posts videos, they post them in Spoiler Tags so that the page loads quicker? I've noticed in a few threads, sometimes multiple videos get posted in post after post, and creates a sluggish loadtime for the page. I've been guilty of it myself, but going forward, I think it would help if we had it so that posting Videos required a spoiler tag wrapped around it to prevent them from automatically trying to load onto the page.

That's not a bad idea, but I think we would need it to be more of a decent-percent-of-users problem, for us to take any kind of drastic actions. If that was the case, we would certainly consider it.

Yeah, I wouldn't ask for anyone to be banned or anything over it. It's really just more of an inconvenience at this point. Right now, as you said, there isn't a whole lot of people posting them, and it's really only a few threads here and there that people even do post them in. With any luck it'll remain that way.

But I bet some active members I mean really active would like to have one as well. Why not making special groups that if they really apply for it might join not like a simple fc or thread.
Like for example the RP section. Not all of us roleplay. Some are really good at it. lets say Overall the whole section of RP the usual users are like 15 or 20 members. Im using myself as an example but im note really part of it. I would like to join but the requirements are
Fill an application that can be send via PM
you know some questions as why would you like to join? How can help improve the section? Hobbies and Talents.
with a few more requirements.
*Be really active in the forum
*Have at least 500 Post
or so and if the person in charge of the sections accept the application then Ill be part of the guild, clan, pirates you know names related to anime.
with an exclusive banner that comes with it. But only for those exclusive Guilds/clans"

I get what you are saying. Certain requirements to reach for certain sections in order to get a spiffy badge and rank. Not bad idea, but I think having too many groups would lessen the effect. Maybe just 1 group for select members that meet the requirements. We have an idea for something like this already in the works, but its not base on post counts at all.

I agree with the calendar thing, the character birthdays could be marked there. As well as some Bleach-related events. (Actually, it could be done for some other manga too (those that have their own sections I guess) but then there would be too much stuff or it would have to be divided somehow - like an option that would display only certain things on the calendar)

hmmm, you're right, it would be bad to put in all bleach-related events and leave out, say, naruto, op, ft and the other series popular here... and, as Belias pointed out, putting the birthdays and everything in the big calendar of the forum might start, during that day, some spammy conversations around the forum... and putting too many anniversaries would make the calendar really messy...
...so new idea: if somebody is interested to create a calendar about a series they like, they can gather all the info needed (of course, official info, taken from the series, databooks, interviews...)... when they have the list ready, they send it to an admin/mod, who can create a sticky thread in the right section - anime and manga if it's not about the four main forum series, otherwise simply in bleach general, OP, Naruto, FT (or can people create sticky thread on their own? no, I think only mods can do it ...)... this way, if nobody is interested the mods don't waste time, and we don't flood the calendar :)

Well, the Contributors user group is pretty much meant as a replacement for the V.I.P. group, using different requirements to be apart of it. So in a way, we did bring it back, but differently. :D Funds for the forums are currently not an issue, but that could change down the line. In a case like that in which did start accepting donations, the users would more then likely just be added to the contributors group.
We still have more new user groups that will be added down the line, including but not limited to, the return of the POTM contest and another new secret group. I am currently working on revamping the POTM rules and general structure to get more people involved and keep them invoked by giving more then just 1st place a permanent reward.

Talking about POTM, I think POTM winners get special badge, will you make a badge for GOTM winners too once it's reactivated?
Belias
05-05-2013, 08:10 PM
Well, it would be possible for GOTM to have a special group for winners, but a few needs would neeed to happen first. 1) a mod would have to step up to run and maintain it, which would take a lot of time. 2) there would need to be increased user particaption. Most graphics contests we had fell flat with barely anyone congributing. 3) someone (doesn't necessarily have to be a mod) would have to outline rules for winning. They would need to be maintained and updated as well. There is a lot that goes into this, takes a lot of time and effort.

I mentioned something about the GOTM contest prior to the site ending up reset. I was thinking we could have a section set-up at the top of the main forum page that showed the 5 most recent contests going on in the forums, similar to how we had the "5 most recent threads" thing in the past. This would highlight the various contests that are going on and could help make them more visible to people and gain more participation.
That was one of the problems with the GOTM section. For the longest time I had no idea it even existed, so there was no chance to participate. So something like what I mentioned above might really help increase exposure to the various contests going on.

Well, that's pretty much the problem with all the contests and events that we have had: letting people know about them. There is only so much we can do without getting obnoxiously annoying (like mass email spam). We had a semi-permanent announcement for the POTM and that did help a bit, but even that will only do so much.
As for something like you mentioned, having a spot on the main page just for contests, would be difficult. There are no settings for something like in the default Admin CP. The one that we had before was an add on/hack to the forums. That would require finding a version of one that is compatible with our version of vbulliten. Then it would have to be added to the forums, which right now is something only that the "superadmin" account can do (that would be spacecat from the old BF). This is also the reason that no new skins or similes have been added back yet, we are still moving a little slow getting everything back. So, we are really limited on what we can do right now. Our best chance of any contests being successful is to have a permanent announcement and to have as many people spread the word within the forums as possible. Using signatures would probably be the second best way.

I don't know if you guys already do this, but a couple additional options might be to set-up an official Twitter where you can announce the contests as they become available, as well as use the Facebook page to push announcements of those contests. You likely won't grab the attention of all the members, but I would think you guys might gain enough followers to get some decent activity going on those competitions.
One other option is to create a "Competitions" sub-forum category, maybe towards the top of the page (or elsewhere, location can be adjusted as necessary) that contains the major competitions going on in the forum at the moment, be it Graphics, POTM, or whatever other competition gets going. I don't know how much you guys want to do in terms of new categories though or modifying the forums from their original structure.
Other than that, I agree with ya that I think it'll just have to be a Word of Mouth type of thing until you guys can find some compatible hacks.

A Twitter account still needs to be made. I used the Facebook page to tell people about the POTM contests and voting monthly. It didn't seem to help much. Voting results per month stayed pretty level and/or dropped some months until the end of old BA.
A forum section just for competitions is not a half bad idea. It would probably help and serve a good purpose. The only issue I would have is that having a forum just for competitions would encourage more competitions to be made that would need to be and would flood BA with too many and devaluate them all.
Good suggestions. Always nice to have some more input on how to make things run better around here.

This is possible, similar to removing the stream from users profiles, but it is not a default setting in the Admin CP. So the only way it can be done is by changing the coding, which right now can only be done by superadmin.

Assuming I understood his request right, I wrote a quick Grease Monkey script that'll do just that. It requires the Grease Monkey add-on from Firefox (or knowledge on how to install similar scripts on Chrome), but it works:

Hopefully this is ok, at least until superadmin can do it server-side.

Thanks for the contribution of something like that, but space has never been a fan of (unless this has changed) adding custom scripts to the server. He has his reasons, mainly too many can cause performance issues, if I recall. But we will keep something like that in mind for down the line, in case it is needed.

lol yeah I understand that. I actually set it up so that the individual user could download it if they want. The way Greasemonkey works is that users can install these scripts themselves and it modifies the page locally just for them. I figured I'd leave it there for the guy who was asking about it, just incase he wanted to do it himself. Yeah I wouldn't expect Space to add anything like that though that he hasn't checked out and optimized, as you said, performance issues can arise.

Hi Staff
I apologize in advance if this was already a question, but it has come to my attention that I been lurking the index a lot and something tells me, I been thinking if its a good idea to add a chatbox? The only flaw is that it will kill some activity in certain forum sections but I think its a great way for the community to communicate altogether and participate in certain discussions(since some social section threads are inactive for example).
Belias

There is currently no option in VB to have a chat box. I'm sure there is some kind of hack to add one, but something like that would not be a high priority on our list of things to do. Plus, it would take away from people making posts on the forums.

Heyo,
So it's come to my attention that there is a 5,000 character limit any Private Message sent on this site.
http://puu.sh/2Uo9R.png
Is there any possible chance this could be reasonably increased to say 7,500 or 10,000 characters per PM? The only reason I'm suggesting this is because I have a fair share of discussions/conversations through PM that tend to reach the limit, sending another PM with a copy + paste of the text that doesn't fit is the obvious way to circumvent this...
But it tends to muddle up the conversation sometimes and slow down replies etc.
Is there any possibility you guys could increase the limit? Thanks.
Belias

Yes, it can probably be increased. I believe the post limit is 10,000 anyways, so it can be at least that. Ill look more into it.

I could see a section with subsections: POTM (or posts??), Graphics contests, Literature contests, Other. I guess for graphics there would be only GOTM and some occasional contests (like for a banner), so it wouldn't be really much. Unless you want to allow members to make their own little contests. Anyway, I guess I could help a bit with graphics contests section if needed.

I am pretty sure we cannot change that. It's just how the layout is. You could always use the default layout until we get more upload, if it bothers you that much. :D
Maybe I'm just not as observant as I once thought, but has "reputation power" always been visible to everyone under their post count?
Belias

No, it hasn't always been there. :D I'm just testing it out for a bit. It will be going off eventually.
Oh, that's too bad. I kind of like it. It's kind of nice seeing at a glance what everyone's rep power is. It's also interesting to see that the average Rep Level (from a quick glance through some threads) seems to be hovering at around 3-7, with the occasional 8 or 9 mixed in. I thought for sure people would be quite a bit higher than they are.

That's because some folks get their rep purely from the reps other people give them while others get a higher rep granting power from a mixture of Number of posts + reps they get.

With the exceptions of Admins (which me or Uni don't rep that much, so when we do it's something) we wanted everyones rep power and general rep levels to stay low this time around, so the default starting levels weren't changed. This way it kinda makes rep mean something, unlike at the old BA, when everyone had a full rep bar and new users most of the time had instant full bars. So now, everyone has to work for that full bar. :D
Even though I'll be turning it off, I'll be turning it back on periodically to see the general changes in users rep power.

Does that rep power depends on the rep bar under username? I mean if it's just that, there's no need to repeat info but if it's more complicated, the rep power could stay I guess

I kind of like the rep power too. It's interesting to see who has how much rep to pass around. :)
I have this problem; please verify if it is happening for others too:
1. Go to user settings.
2. Under the Rep listings, click on the link of a post you gave rep points for.
3. Instead of going to the page number containing the post you gave rep for, the page is directed to Page 1 of the thread, even though the link points to the actual post on say 25th page of the thread.
Thanks for verifying if this is an issue.

You could put your tutorials in the Graphics Question and Help thread, as suggested by Kurorai. Our graphics section simply isn't active enough to give a tutorials section its own subforum. Many of us also put our tips and techniques in our own graphics threads.
Glad you like the site, and thanks for the suggestion. :D

I think that's because the higher number of images the longer the site loads and not everyone has good connection. I don't know though if there's any option to e.g. exclude emoticons from the limit. But if you'd just increase the number of images, people would overuse it I guess and put big pics there and stuff.
Also, the vBulletin forums' sigs are rather big comparing to the phpBB forums for example, so I think it's enough xD
Which is why sometimes, I disable my signature on some of my posts as a service to those with weak Internet speeds. One less Jpeg to load in my opinion.

As Kurorai said, more images means more work for the server, leading to longer loading times.
I'm not sure why anyone needs more than three images in a signature. That might change when POTM comes back, and we start giving out badges for that.
If suggestion one is not an option, would spoiler boxes around various images be okay then?
You could have one signature image, and then put other images under spoiler tags. But the limit of three images still would apply.

As I said, decorative more so than anything else, I am used to other forums that allow more than three images, so I was just wondering if this would be an option on Bleach Asylum in the future. But if the server cannot handle it then don't worry about it, I'll work something out.

This issue really isn't with our servers, it's more of a service to members. Lots of people do not care for the types of forums that are overloaded with large images like we have. If you were to browse most other anime/manga forums, you would find that the image sizes/number are much more restricted then we have it. Hence why a lot of people simply turn of signatures and sometimes even avatars. Saves time and hassle if all you want to do is read peoples post.
I will see if there is leeway to increase the number. In the mean time, if this is an issue with anyone else, I would suggest opening photoshop, merging and resizing images you want to use.
I love a good sig and Avvy, but sometimes certain ones can take up too much real estate and look distracting. Rather than turning off ALL sigs and avys, I use ad-blocker to block the ones I don't fancy. Win-win.

If it is in consideration of other members, would there be a chance more images could exist in spoilers boxes then? Bleach Asylum isn't as broad as other communities, but we have a small dedicated one and with images wrapped in a spoiler box - it is practically out of sight unless one shows them.
It is only a suggestion though, the only reason I originally asked is because I like to be decorative; even if it means within a spoiler box - other than that I am working on merging images.
Thanks. :)

All mentions of "http://" is replaced by by httphttp://bleachasylum.com/images/smilies/uncomfortableness.png/ and that causes signatures to break. Check out a few posts' signature and you'll what I mean. I had to disable smileys for this post and post the image of the smiley via an IMG tag to highlight the bug.

Just a quick suggestion.
I've noticed that one of the new emote codes is clashing with regular urls because of the code assigned to it, so I believe it need changing. It keeps signature pics from showing up because the forum picks the ":" + "/" as an emote rather than part of a url. When it's just the url alone, it seems, the url still shows up because the forum parses the links, but with images they just don't show up entirely.
The emote is this one -> :/ and as I explained before, the characters are the : and the /
Thanks.

Here's a bug:
1. Go to your VM page.

3. A new window opens up showing a list of prior VM messages.
However, the window has no contrasting background... that is the text is directly placed against the picture of Sad Ichigo with the sexy eyes. This makes reading very difficult.

(Doesn't bother me at the moment, but I wouldn't want to see a pairing fc I didn't like promoted in the character fc as being similar.)
Also, is there any way to set this based on thread tags instead of thread titles? I see some really random stuff listed that has a similar keyword in the title.

Actually, I think pairing FCs of that character listed is a good idea. Everyone has their preference and that way they can easier find what they like.
I just mentioned it 'cause it also appears in spammage and spam Gotei 13 has not that much to do with normal Gotei 13 xD
The tags are actually nice idea IMO. But then the threads creators would have to learn to tag properly (there should be some system decided)

I like this new feature as well but threads that are located in the trash section are getting advertised in legit threads. Do you think we could get the trashed threads removed from the rec list? For example, if you visit the Orihime FC or Rukia FC, you get a rec for a trashed thread titled, "If Ichigo had to choose between the two..." It shows up in a lot of other threads too. :(I would very much appreciate if this particular thread would stop showing up.^^;

Isn't that what the master list of fcs is for?
If we aren't supposed to post shippy things in character fcs, it seems counterproductive to have the pairing thread recs for that character at the bottom. If that's the case, we might as well just make a hard link in the first post to any relevant pairing fcs (which was specifically disallowed before if I recall correctly).
Sorry, I'm not familiar with the backend vbulletin settings, but is there some way to limit related threads by section? "Related posts" on content-management systems usually have a way to restrict it to showing certain categories only, you know, fcs in the fc section, manga stuff in the manga section, etc. That might fix the trashed thread problem.

The similar threads was something that came with the latest update we did and it is based on titles. Looks like there is still some bugs to be worked out of it, but as for what it relates and your own preferences, you might just have to make due.

the new dark skin is really kickass - thanks for including it once more! http://emoticoner.com/files/emoticons/crazy-monkey/crazy-monkey-emoticon-022.gif (http://emoticoner.com)
also; I've asked this before but is it possible to include an option where you get a notification if you're quoted?
that's a rather convenient forum tool IMO.

I agree about the forum skin, I missed it from the old forums. ;w; Glad it's back around, thank you!

It is possible to have notifications for quotes using a plugin, but it might cause more problems for the staff, then it would be useful for everyone. It's something we might be able to test.

It would be fantastic. I'm always forgetting about threads I've posted in, and the subscription feature is a bit bloated if all you want to know is if someone's replied to you.

thanks for the great admins for bringing back the BA's dark skin,!! :hug oh now with the new styles in this dark skin we are like in a outer space or something (the stars on the background), its cooler than before, and it reminds me for the old BA ...
and btw for the front page forum, the 5 posts new thing, will it be back?? ex : the new 5 posts, the highest posts, and the newest members etc,.

yeah, but its great idea, since if someone already answered to our qutes, then maybe he/she wanted us to notice her/his post, then we are able to reply

But that's the point. Someone scrolls down and wants to post something shippy, then they see "oh, there's a special thread for that" and maybe they'll go there instead. I know there are master posts but some newbies may not find them or be too lazy to read them. I don't see how pairing threads in related are a problem. I don't see a problem in links either (like instruction: if you want to talk about ships go there and there instead of posting here) and I don't remember them being disallowed. Is there some war or something between pairing and character FCs that I don't know about? I thought we're all just fans...

Unfortunately, things are not as simple as everyone being just fans and getting along. Here on the internet, there are many flame wars (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flaming_%28Internet%29) over trivial matters, that do mean a lot to some people. Things have been much better in recent years, but many can attest that in the past, fights over shipping have caused many disagreements, up to entire fan clubs to be closed permanently (not on this forums). So, something like a similar threads list could cause issues, but more then likely, it would just have to be watched like anything else.

Well, if someone just causes flame wars, then should be warned/punished (of course there's a difference between flame war and discussion). And they will do it anyway if they want, it's their own decision, I don't see how related threads would have any influence on that. Unless you mean that the person could easier find "enemy" pairing thread and post there but then again everything can be used for bad things after all... I think just watching over it like usually is enough *shrug*
